Historien om «Isbjørn» og evakueringen av Svalbard En tidlig novembermorgen i 1941 legger en av Oslofergene til ved en brygge på Håøya i Oslofjorden. Seks gruvearbeidere fra Longyearbyen blir én etter én ført fram til en massegrav hvor de blir skutt av tyske marinesoldater. 29. mai hadde de kapret isbryteren «Isbjørn» for å dra til alliert havn og slutte seg til motstandskampen mot Nazi-Tyskland. På grunn av uvær og dårlige navigasjonskunnskaper måtte de gi opp og ble ført til Tromsø. Samtidig med rettsaken i Oslo blir Svalbard evakuert og gruveanleggene ødelagt. Dette fører til annen akt i dette ishavsdramaet. Direktøren i Store Norske og 14 andre nordmenn blir drept av tyske flyangrep utenfor den russiske gruvebyen Barentsburg idet de forsøker å gjeninnta gruvene. Dette er den første sammenfattende beretningen om de tragiske begivenheter som fant sted i Ishavet og Oslofjorden for 70 år siden. UTVIKLING I SAKEN: Mandag 13.10.14 starter letingen etter Isbjørn-karene på Håøya. Forsvarsdepartementet har bevilget kr 300.000 til leting i marken og blant dokumenter i Norge og Tyskland. Letingen på Håøya skjer ved hjelp av frivillige sivile og militære mannskaper. Onsdag 15.10.14 besøker forsvarsminister Ine Eriksen Søreide leteområdet. Det blir bred pressedekning. Dagsrevyen vil lage et magasininnslag som sendes enten lørdag 18. eller søndag 19. oktober. Dagbladet og Bergens Tidende vil også dekke letingen; likeså lokalavisen Akershus Amtstidende og Forsvarets Forum.
Flere nye teoretiske strømninger har i de seneste årtier udfordret historiefaget og dets traditionelle begreber om videnskabelighed. ´Den sproglige vending´ er en samlebetegnelse for en række af disse teoretiske retninger - poststrukturalisme, postkolonialisme, dekonstruktion eller narratologi. Tegnets tid introducerer både kritisk og konstruktivt til de videnskabsteoretiske problemstillinger der er fulgt i den sproglige vendings kølvand. Hvordan har begrebet om ´fortidig virkelighed´ ændret sig? Hvad legitimerer empirisk erkendelse og historieskrivning, hvis sproget ikke er et føjeligt medium til objektiv gengivelse af fortiden? Hvordan forholder historisk udvikling og årsagsforklaringer sig til nye begreber om foranderlighed og forskellighed?Det er Dorthe Gert Simonsens ambition med denne bog at overskride den snævre debat om sprog kontra virkelighed, der har karakteriseret de videnskabsteoretiske diskussioner hidtil. Efter den sproglige vending, argumenterer hun, er problematikken snarere at intet kan unddrage sig tiden. I Tegnets tid forskydes tyngdepunktet med andre ord fra sprog til historicitet, idet forholdet mellem dem undersøges. Med det udgangspunkt tager Dorte Gert Simonsen atter hul på hævdvundne problemstillinger i historiefaget. Bogen lægger vægt på den nordiske historiefaglige tradition og indhenter desuden eksempler fra nyere kulturhistorisk forskning, særligt den amerikanske New Historicism.

Da Hanne Gert Andersen blev behandlet og kureret for brystkræft, opstod andre lidelser under og efter: Hukommelsesbesvær, træthed, fistel, psykose, smerter i fødderne.Kræftfri, men stadig syg er en helt almindelig historie om et kræftforløb, men en sjælden historie om det, der følger efter. Hanne fortæller sammen med kæresten Kasper Graversen som henholdsvis patient og pårørende om at vente på den store forløsning, hvor man endelig kommer ud på den berømte anden side og kan fejre og poppe champagnepropperne. Kun for at opleve, at den forløsning aldrig kommer.Forfatterne åbner med deres ærlige og sårbare fortælling for en større samtale om kræft end den, hvor der kun er rask og syg – sort og hvid. Med bogen inviterer de til et større fællesskab om det at leve med senfølger og føle sig forandret for altid.
