A Wandering Dance through the Philosophy of Graham Parkes
Inspired by the philosopher Graham Parkes, this collection provides a distinctive study of aesthetics and the climate crisis. Engaging with continental European and East Asian traditions, it challenges our definition of self in the West and asks us to re-evaluate our conventional perspectives.Expert authors present a timely reflection on contemporary issues, explicating the relationship between the human species and the natural world through its connection to the arts, dance and music. Showcasing Parkes’s cross-cultural views on Japanese rock gardens, Buddhism, Daoist dance and musical ecology, while drawing on the philosophies of Nietzsche, Heidegger and the Zhuangzi, they demonstrate a diversity of comparative perspectives ranging from the structure of consciousness to discourses of climate change.Through a valuable and systematic treatment of the thought of Parkes, A Wandering Dance through the Philosophy of Graham Parkes makes the case that a restoration of the intimate relation of self and nature is indispensable in understanding our place in the order of things and achieving balance in the world.

Critical reflections on the work of Angus Charles Graham, renowned Western scholar of Chinese philosophy and sinology. This volume engages with the works and ideas of Angus Charles Graham (1919–1991), one of the most prominent Western scholars of Chinese philosophy, at the twenty-fifth anniversary of his passing. Over a professional career of more than thirty years, Angus Graham produced an impressive amount of scholarship on a wide array of topics, ranging from Chinese grammar and philology to poetry and philosophy. His combination of rigorous scholarship and philosophical originality has continued to inspire scholars to tackle related research topics, and in so doing, has required of them a response to his views. This book illustrates the range of scholarship still elaborating upon, disagreeing with, and reacting to Graham's work on Chinese thought, philosophy, philology, and translation.

Graham Parsons is a man ordinaire whose well-ordered life is changed beyond measure when he witnesses the manslaughter of a 7 year old boy, Christopher. Whilst holding the dying child he experiences a profound out of body experience and minutes later suffers a life threatening attack, leaving him with permanent disabilities. His recovery brings with it a telepathic connection with children who need help. An affinity which threatens his sanity, marriage and eventually his life. This tale of discovery begins with a fearful and confused denial which takes him to the edge of reason until eventually, he accepts and employs his remarkable gift with a charming pragmatism that disarms doubters and helps to salvage blighted young lives. His simple, candid honesty wins the support of four friends from very different backgrounds; Christopher's mother, a GP, a Child Protection Officer and a Detective Sergeant. This story chronicles the shocking, moving and yet sometimes heart-warming episodes in his new life.

The digital copies of this book are available for free at First Fruits website. place.asburyseminary.edu/firstfruits FOREWORD It shall be my purpose in this book to focus attention upon mass evangelism, and to make a candid appraisal of its spiritual values. I am fully aware that evangelism is a term with many facets. Its over-all meaning has to do with the spread of the gospel of Christ. There are several approaches to this divinely appointed task. Widely used techniques have evolved over the years. But it is an indisputable fact that practically all of the methods used today were used by Jesus and the early Christians. Paul expressed the attitude of the early Church when he wrote, "To all men I have become all things, to save some by all and every means." In well planned revival efforts all known methods are used. In a significant sense a genuine revival marks the climax of the desire of Christians to win others to Christ. It is my purpose to follow the revival stream from King Josiah to Billy Graham, and to discuss in chronological sequence, the great revivals that have moved the souls of men and kept the church on the march. In my rather extensive reading in this field, I have not seen a book that treated this important subject as I have attempted to do. It is my belief that a summation of spiritual revivals of all times, given without excessive detail, will broaden the understanding and deepen the appreciation of all who will read the record. It is crystal clear that if the revivals cited had not occurred, our religion would not have the prominent place in the thought and life of men it has today. I do not pretend that what this book contains will have the attraction of novelty, but I believe it will have reader appeal for all Christians who desire a fuller knowledge of revivalism as it has been expressed over the years. Deep inside me has crystallized the conviction that the basic concept of revivalism belongs to the divine economy and that it is a fruitful means of keeping religion alive in the souls of men and in the life of the world. This conviction did not form while I was dwelling in an ivory tower. It came while I was in the midst of spiritual conflict. I was converted in a revival. I have closely observed the results of revival efforts in churches. I have served as minster over the years, and I have witnessed the conversion of sinners, as well as the inspirational boosts given to the churches. I am sending this book forth with the earnest hope that all who read it will re-think and re-appraise revivalism, and that they will become vigorous supporters of this time honored method of making converts to Christ and His kingdom among men.
