Well before Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, Aleck (as his family called him) was a curious boy, interested in how and why he was able to hear the world all around him. His father was a speech therapist who invented the Visible Alphabet and his mother was hearing impaired, which only made Aleck even more fascinated by sound vibration and modes of communication. Naturally inquisitive and inclined to test his knowledge, young Aleck was the perfect person to grow up in the Age of Invention. As a kid he toyed with sound vibrations and began a life of inventing. This in-depth look at the life and inspiration of the brilliant man who invented the tele-phone is sure to fire up the imaginations of young readers who question why and how things work. Driven by curiosity and an eagerness to help others, Aleck became a teacher for the deaf. His eventual invention of the telephone proved that he never stopped thinking big or experimenting with sound. Backmatter includes more information about Bell's inventions, a timeline of his life, a bibliography, and sources for further learning.

IF THERE WERE SUCH A JOB AS THE NATION’S PASTOR, IT WOULD GO TO BILLY GRAHAMGraham wasn’t born with a mandate to become the face of modern evangelism. Growing up, he wasn’t much different from other boys in his town. Billy was more interested in going to the movies than the moving of the Holy Spirit, and he spent more time chasing girls than God. But at a revival meeting the day before his sixteenth birthday, Graham committed himself to Christ and never looked back. That day, he started on the path that would make him the most influential Christian leader in American history. In Billy Graham: His Life and Influence, acclaimed author David Aikman probes critical episodes of Graham’s life that help explain his profound impact, both on the public life of America and other nations and the private lives of their cultural and political leaders. From the racial upheaval of the civil rights movement to the social turmoil of the cold war, Aikman traces Graham’s profound influence on a nation as it went through wrenching changes over the span of more than a half century. Through vivid anecdotes and fascinating details, Billy Graham: His Life and Influence tells the story of how a country boy from Charlotte with a heart for God grew up to help shape the world.

Billy Graham: An Ordinary Man and His Extraordinary God
Lon Allison shares the story of the man and his message of Jesus Christ with a whole new generation. "My prayer is that this book will be read by a generation that has never heard of Billy Graham.... I also write for those who are broadly attached to the Christian faith, and for those who have had only a small or short brush with faith in their lives. Billy impacted everyone from Catholics and Lutherans to Bible Church Evangelicals and Assembly of God Charismatics. As I hope you will hear clearly in what follows, he touched people like me with very little religious background. He was the 'Pastor to Presidents' and a spiritual guide to celebrities. But more than everything else, he was a friend of Jesus and passionately devoted to telling Jesus's story to everyone he possibly could in all the world." --Lon Allison, from the introduction Billy Graham said, "You have no idea how sick I get of the name Billy Graham, and how wonderful and thrilling the name Christ sounds to my ears." So, then, why another book about him? Lon Allison, an evangelist himself, and popular evangelical pastor in Wheaton, Illinois, has learned much from Billy. Allison retells the highlights of what has been, by any objective account, a fascinating life, and tells it is a way that resonates with the Graham legacy of serving God and seeking to spread the Good News. Every stage of Graham's life is included, even the rough spots, with appreciation and a desire to answer the question: What can we learn from the life and ministry of Billy Graham? What is his legacy? What was his message and how might it still be relevant for today. Foreword by Dr. Leighton Ford and Jean Graham Ford.

Billy Graham Was the World’s Best-Known Evangelist—Loved and Admired by Millions. But Very Few Knew Him Personally. Pastor and bestselling author Greg Laurie was one of those fortunate few, blessed with an insider’s view of Billy Graham’s world for more than two decades. With the same painstaking research and eye for detail that distinguishes his previous biographies, Steve McQueen: Salvation of an American Icon and Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon, Laurie now turns to the life of his beloved mentor, offering the intimate perspective of a disciple and friend. As a strapping North Carolina farm boy, Graham surrendered his life to Jesus at a camp meeting led by a blustery itinerant preacher, but he never lost the mischievous twinkle in his eye or his fun-loving air. Laurie sheds light on Graham’s lesser-known struggles—such as a broken heart before he met the love of his life and a crisis of faith from which he emerged stronger than ever. From the evangelist’s private challenges and public successes to his disappointments and joys, Billy Graham: The Man I Knew provides a vivid portrait of one of history’s most remarkable Christian lives.

The first book in the delicious, icy-hot Campus Diaries series, a spinoff of BookTok sensations Off-Campus and Briar U, by New York Times bestselling author Elle Kennedy.Gigi Graham has exactly three goals: qualify for the women's national hockey team, win Olympic gold, and step out of her famous father's shadow. So far, so good, except for two little things. Fine-a little thing and a big, grumpy thing. She needs to improve her game behind the net, and she needs help from Luke Ryder.Ryder is six-foot five, built, opinionated, rude...and sexy as hell. But he's still the enemy.Briar's new hockey co-captain has his reasons, though. The men's team just merged with a rival program, leaving Ryder with an angry roster where everyone hates one another's guts. To make matters worse, the summer coaching spot he's angling for with the legendary Garrett Graham is out of reach after he makes the worst possible first impression on his hero. So, really, this compromise with Gigi is win-win. He helps her make the national team, she puts in a good word with her dad.The only potential snag? This bone-deep, body-numbing, mind-spinning chemistry they're trying to ignore. It's a dangerous game they're playing, but the risks just might be worth it.
You Can Take the Boy Out of the Bay: The Memoirs of Thomas Graham Morry of Ferryland
"You Can Take the Boy Out of the Bay..." is a collection of anecdotes recalling people and events in the life of Thomas Graham Morry. These mini short stories were written by him with the intention to amuse but, when examined carefully, they also contain underlying compassion, empathy and pathos. Tom Morry was born and raised in Ferryland, a tiny outport community on the Southern Shore of Newfoundland. The book focusses first and foremost on his experiences in that part of his life, and gives a bittersweet account of life in outport Newfoundland during the Depression Years, when poverty was an underlying theme in the lives of virtually everyone in the village - a theme they chose to ignore in order that they could live life to the fullest, despite the hardships. But the story goes well beyond that, recounting the experiences he had, and the odd selection of characters that he encountered, during his years that followed, in the United States in the Dirty Thirties, and back in Newfoundland, in St. John's this time, during and after WWII, and before and after Confederation. The story finishes up with a brief exposure to life in Ottawa for an ex-patriate Newfoundlander in the early 1950s and 60s, where he found characters as delightfully eccentric as he had encountered during his earlier life experiences, proving, once again, that we humans are more alike than we are different.
