Hudson was born in the borough of Quilmes, now Florencio Varela of the greater Buenos Aires, in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. He was the son of Daniel Hudson and his wife Catherine n e Kemble, U.S. settlers of English and Irish origin. He spent his youth studying the local flora and fauna and observing both natural and human dramas on what was then a lawless frontier, publishing his ornithological work in Proceedings of the Royal Zoological Society, initially in an English mingled with Spanish idioms. He had a special love of Patagonia. Hudson settled in England during 1874, taking up residence at St Luke's Road in Bayswater. 1] He produced a series of ornithological studies, including Argentine Ornithology (1888-1899) and British Birds (1895), and later achieved fame with his books on the English countryside, including Hampshire Day (1903), Afoot in England (1909) and A Shepherd's Life (1910), which helped foster the back-to-nature movement of the 1920s and 1930s.

It's a Wonderful Life meets the colloquial charm of The Catcher in the Rye.A Writer's Digest Book Award winner. If it wasn't for bad luck, Hudson Foster would have no luck at all. At twenty-nine years young, the world was his oyster, until the fickle finger of fate took it all away.Fired from his cushy banking job, he's forced to search for work during the Christmas holidays by a demanding father, affectionately known as "Mr. Perfect."In Harlin Hailey's compact, muscular novel, we ride shotgun on Hudson's sometimes poignant, often irreverently humorous job hunt as he "flips the bird" at the dark underbelly of corporate greed, sleazy telemarketing sales peple, and the not-so-glamorous sets of Hollywood. In this turn-of-the-century romp through the ups and downs of unemployment, Hudson proves that he is capable of far more than he ever imagined and worth more than he or a winner-takes-all society ever game him credit for. The Downsizing of Hudson Foster follows his everyman journey as he takes the long route home to rediscover life and love, and miraculously survives to tell the tale.An unforgettable story for New Adult to Adult readers. Contains occasional strong language that is essential to the plot. Make it your next holiday read

Winner, Victorian Society in America Book Award A colorful tale of a singular New York City neighborhood and the personalities who make it special To outsiders or East Siders, Riverside Park and Riverside Drive may not have the star status of Fifth Avenue or Central Park West. But at the city's westernmost edge, there is a quiet and beauty like nowhere else in all of New York. There are miles of mansions and monuments, acres of flora, and a breadth of wildlife ranging from Peregrine falcons to goats. It's where the Gershwins and Babe Ruth once lived, William Randolph Hearst ensconced his paramour, and Amy Schumer owns a penthouse. Told in the uniquely personal voice of a longtime resident, Heaven on the Hudson is the only New York City book that features the history, architecture, and personalities of this often overlooked neighborhood, from the eighteenth century through the present day. Combining an extensively researched history of the area and its people with an engaging one-on-one guide to its sights, author Stephanie Azzarone sheds new light on the initial development of Riverside Park and Riverside Drive, the challenges encountered—from massive boulders to "maniacs"—and the reasons why Riverside Drive never became the "new Fifth Avenue" that promoters anticipated. From grand "country seats" to squatter settlements to multi-million-dollar residences, the book follows the neighborhood's roller-coaster highs and lows over time. Readers will discover a trove of architectural and recreational highlights and hidden gems, including the Drive's only freestanding privately owned villa, a tomb that's not a tomb, and a sweet memorial to an eighteenth-century child. Azzarone also tells the stories behind Riverside's notable and forgotten residents, including celebrities, murderers, a nineteenth-century female MD who launched the country's first anti-noise campaign, and an Irish merchant who caused a scandal by living with an Indian princess. While much has been written about Central Park, little has focused exclusively on Riverside Drive and Riverside Park until now. Heaven on the Hudson is dedicated to sharing this West Side neighborhood's most special secrets, the ones that, without fail, bring both pleasure and peace in a city of more than 8 million.

"This eloquent, evocative book about compassion is perfect for sparking discussions on prejudice. A sensational choice." --School Library Journal Hattie McFadden is a born explorer. Every morning she paddles out in her canoe to discover something new on the lake, singing a little song along the way. When her singing lures a huge mysterious beast from the depths of the lake, everyone in town is terrified--except Hattie, who looks into the creature's friendly, curious eyes and knows that this is no monster. She befriends the giant and names him Hudson. But how can she make the frightened, hostile townspeople see that he isn't scary or dangerous at all? Chris Van Dusen brings his colorful, perspective-bending artwork to this satisfying story about acceptance, friendship, and sticking up for those who are different.

Poems of Greg Evans A ZEN MOMENT IN THE MOUNTAINS I sip my wine in the purple shadows of the evening, where the fireflies flicker like lanterns on an ancient river. The moonlight dances upon the ripples in my glass and it's there I see eternity in the songs of an old traveler. That weary man is I, alone on this balmy dream. Forever a traveling leaf on a winding midnight stream. Forever a thought that once viewed such a beautiful night. In a place like this, where mountains touch the sky.
