German printmaker Kathe Kollwitz (1867-1945) is known for her unapologetic social and political imagery; her representations of grief, suffering, and struggle; and her equivocal ideas about artistic and political labels. This volume explores her most creative years, roughly the late 1890s to the mid-1920s, highlighting the tension between making and meaning throughout her work. Correlating Kollwitz's obsessive printmaking experiments with the evolution of her images, it assesses the unusually rich progressions of preparatory drawings, proofs, and rejected images behind Kollwitz's compositions of struggling workers, rebellious peasants, and grieving mothers. This selected catalogue of the Dr. Richard A. Simms collection at the Getty Research Institute provides a bird's-eye view of Kollwitz's sequences of images as well as the interrelationships among prints produced over multiple years. The meanings and sentiments emerging from Kollwitz's images are not, as is often implied, unmediated expressions of her politics and emotions. Rather, Kollwitz transformed images with deliberate technical and formal experiments, seemingly endless adjustments, wholesale rejections, and strategic regroupings of figures and forms-all of which demonstrate that her obsessive dedication to making art was never a straightforward means to political or emotional ends.

Kathy Acker was a punk-rock counter-cultural icon, and innovator of the literary underground. The interviews collected here span her amazing, uncompromising, and often misunderstood 30-year career. From Acker's earliest interviews--filled with playful, evasive, and counter-intuitive responses--to the last interview before her death where she reflects on the state of American literature, these interviews capture the writer at her funny and surprising best. Another highlight includes Acker's 1997 interview with the Spice Girls on the forces of pop and feminism (which reads as if it could have been conducted with a new generation of pop star in 2018).

The Upanishads are late Vedic Sanskrit texts of religious teaching and ideas still revered in Hinduism. Of all Vedic literature, the Upanishads alone are widely known, and their central ideas are at the spiritual core of Hinduism. Around 108 Upanishads are known, of which the first dozen or so are the oldest and most important and are referred to as the principal or main Upanishads. The Katha Upanishad is the legendary story of a little boy, Nachiketa - the son of Sage Vajasravasa, who meets Yama (the Hindu deity of death). Their conversation evolves to a discussion of the nature of man, knowledge, Atman (Soul, Self) and moksha (liberation).

First, relationships have a lot of importance in life. If you get a relationship with the right people, then you are truly happy and want to live long. If something like this is not in your luck then your life becomes like hell. Secondly, if the relationship is one-sided, then it is the right decision to free that relationship and that uprooted person. All these things are mentioned in the "Kati Patang" poetry collection. All such poems introduce many aspects of life.

This book is a compilation of my poems, short stories and the like. Through the years, I have written many poems for my friends and acquaintances to peruse and enjoy. An elderly friend, Mary, chose: 2 Samuel: 23:2: The spirit of the Lord speaks through me; his words are upon my lips.] to describe my writings. She loved to hear the words I would pen on paper and read to her. Along with my other friends whom I would share my thoughts with. When asked to remember them, or repeat some of my poetry, I would tell others that those words were given to me by God and I never could remember what I wrote. But He has given me many, many poems through the years. I hope you will enjoy what I have written. I love to write poetry, but I also like to write short stories. All of which you can find in this book. thanks for listening, kathie PS. I am still writing poetry. Especially little ones for those who are ill and need to be inspired. My one wish is that each of you who read this finds it enlightening and pleasurable. Thanks for listening I was born in the Wells Tannery area in Fulton County, Pennsylvania. When I was eight years old, my father moved us to Norristown, Pennsylvania, to give his younger children better financial opportunities. I grew up there and got married at the age of 21. I married a man who was seven years my senior and had custody of his four children from a previous marriage. We then had two children of our own. After ten years of abuse, I left him and returned to Norristown. I got my job back with Howard Johnson Motor Lodge and settled into making a new life. I have worked as a waitress, secretary, crossing guard for the local police department, court clerk of Montgomery County, clerk for the local county jail, and police secretary in Upper Providence Police Department. I enjoyed all those jobs as well as being an apartment manager for the apartments where I lived. I bought a cottage in Mont Clare, Pennsylvania, in 1998 and retired in 2017. I married a wonderful man from Colombia, and we now live in Kingman, Arizona. Thank you for listening, Kathie
