Life can be full of challenges rocking our boat so strongly that we risk drowning in a sea of stress and mental ill-health. That's why self-care is such a vital skill.Dr Nadine Hamilton has spent over 17 years in her speciality psychology practice helping professionals and businesses get on top of stress and psychological fatigue to avoid burnout, depression and self-harm. Her 2019 international best-seller Coping With Stress and Burnout as a Veterinarian targeted a profession with a suicide rate almost four times higher than the general population. Now, after two years of social, personal, and financial impacts from a global pandemic, she has found herself working with her clients (and herself) more and more on self-care - how to use self-understanding and practical psychological tools to attain and maintain better mental wellbeing.Time then, to release a new book to help anyone who is finding life at work and home a tough ask at times. Nadine gives us a clever guide to self-care covering topics such as setting boundaries, dealing with stress and anxiety, self-esteem, coping with grief, resilience, compassion fatigue, mentally healthy workplaces, and the imperative to build more hope and optimism into our daily lives.

SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2012 OTTAWA BOOK AWARD "As a potential heir to the tradition of Margaret Atwood and Alice Munro, McInnis is off to a promising start."--Publishers Weekly An affair that begins in an apothecary's garden brings Joyce to a hospice, where she tends to the dying alongside her own grief. A middle-aged woman recalls the lovable, lavable secret of the first night spent on her husband's farm. A mother and daughter discuss suicide while hiking a shipwreck survivor's trail. In Nadine McInnis's sophomore collection, boozers repent, gamblers reform, cheaters suffer, the deaf speak volumes, and cancer patients string flowers in their hair. Probing and compassionate, executed with a steady hand, Blood Secrets is an excavation of endings and their revelations: the affair that ends a marriage, the disease that ends a life, the effect of a long-ago suicide. And as her characters struggle to administer to each other in their final moments, each story becomes an autopsy, dissecting bodies for their secrets and daily life for the things it hides. Nadine McInnis is the author of seven books and the winner of a CBC Literary Award.

The third book in this charming series of true-life stories is based on the memories of Clarissa Nadine Townsend and her brother, Paul Gregory Townsend, set in rural America in the post-depression era. From sampling the sweet sap of the "sugar" bush, to making a dress from an old feed sack (then tearing it on a barbed wire fence ), and watching baby goats get into all kinds of mischief, Clarissa's adventures capture the essence of what it meant to be a child in these innocent times. There's even a template for making a paper doll of Clarissa and her feed sack dress Remember the way children's books used to be? Grandparents and other family members reading bedtime stories and looking at the pictures together? Now you can revisit those magical days with your youngsters, through Elm Grove Publishing's special series of "Children's Books for Grandparents." Brand new stories, traditionally told in classically styled books that will capture the imagination and the heart, specially designed and printed for grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, even big brothers and sisters, to read to small children.
