This book presents CBT-AN-20, a newly developed briefer form of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) for anorexia nervosa, designed to treat individuals in 20 sessions, helping clinicians to offer effective therapy to more patients and enabling patients to move more quickly towards recovery. This manual addresses the key CBT skills needed to deliver effective CBT-AN-20. It uses a combination of psychoeducation, nutrition, exposure therapy, and behavioural experiments to overcome starvation and to support essential weight gain/stability. It then details the skills needed to work with emotional factors and with body image issues. Importantly, it also stresses the meta-competences needed to work with anorexia nervosa – such as early change, motivational work, engaging with the "anorexic voice", and maintaining a working alliance that stresses change. Accompanying the text is a range of useful web-based materials to support the clinician reading the manual. These include checklists, psychoeducation materials, measures, and videos of skills in action. CBT-AN-20’s pragmatic structure supports its delivery by both experienced therapists and those newer to the field who are practising under expert supervision. This book is a "must read" for all levels of practitioners from all disciplines who work with eating disorders.

This book identifies ways in which the U.S. trade and aid policy can most help the Caribbean Basin. A number of impediments to future development in the Caribbean, including the small size of the countries and companies in the region, limited infrastructure development and trade policies that feature government reliance on tariff revenue are reviewed. Furthermore, a number of policies are identified and discussed in this book that could help speed development by increasing the scale of markets for Caribbean countries. To address problems faced by small economies and enterprises, this book examines the ways in which the U.S. could increase regionally focused assistance, such as through the creation of educational programs designed to facilitate understanding of export opportunities and trade benefits, as well as through programs to improve understanding and compliance with international regulations regarding port security and food safety. Infrastructure improvements, along with skilled and educated work force, have been identified as the crucial factors for investors in the Caribbean, particularly in higher wage sectors. This book suggests that, to address limitations in port infrastructure, the U.S. could improve co-ordination on shipping and security issues with Caribbean countries to increase shipping reliability and to reduce time to market. The U.S. could also support training programs to increase the number of skilled workers in the region.

Medier er noget. Medier gør noget. Medier betyder noget.

Recently there has been increased interest in the development of computer-aided design programs to support the system level designer of integrated circuits more actively. Such design tools hold the promise of raising the level of abstraction at which an integrated circuit is designed, thus releasing the current designers from many of the details of logic and circuit level design. The promise further suggests that a whole new group of designers in neighboring engineering and science disciplines, with far less understanding of integrated circuit design, will also be able to increase their productivity and the functionality of the systems they design. This promise has been made repeatedly as each new higher level of computer-aided design tool is introduced and has repeatedly fallen short of fulfillment. This book presents the results of research aimed at introducing yet higher levels of design tools that will inch the integrated circuit design community closer to the fulfillment of that promise. 1. 1. SYNTHESIS OF INTEGRATED CmCUITS In the integrated circuit (Ie) design process, a behavior that meets certain specifications is conceived for a system, the behavior is used to produce a design in terms of a set of structural logic elements, and these logic elements are mapped onto physical units. The design process is impacted by a set of constraints as well as technological information (i. e. the logic elements and physical units used for the design).

Today's law firm is an entity in flux. Economic and technological disruption - along with a range of other factors - have contributed to this change, meaning that firms are not what they used to be. It is therefore a necessity that the way they are managed also needs to change. This means, among many things, the need to corporatize the running of the firm; a move away from the focus on the billable hour towards more intangible activities such as business development and marketing and - perhaps the most important factor - the development of a new kind of leader within the legal landscape. The new kind of leader now demanded by a transformed legal profession is not readily forthcoming, however. Legal culture stresses individualism and independence, which is reinforced by firm governance, practice management, and performance management systems that are ill-suited to foster supportive and collaborative leadership practices; lawyers are trained and conditioned to be combative, autonomous, and didactic. To position oneself as a contender in a fast-moving and competitive market, the legal leader of the future must push back against these trends by acting strategically, engaging in people management, investing in their employees, and creating a working environment that places emphasis on communication, teamwork, and growth and development. Legal leadership: a handbook for future success combines the latest and most relevant intelligence from those on the frontline of law firm leadership and management, to serve as the catalyst for change and the foundation on which a strong leadership practice can be built. Drawing on their expertise and experience, our authors - ranging from behavioral psychologists to senior management figures and pofessional coaches -present a wide range of competencies and strategies to cultivate as part of a leader's personal and professional development. Whether you are already a member of your firm's senior management, or in a junior position with big aspirations, Legal leadership: a handbook for future success provides the essential tools to equip you to become a leader of the future.

Can great powers ensure the political outcomes they want and prevent political developments they oppose, by stationing their military forces in distant regions during peacetime? If so, what kinds of military capabilities yield this sort of peacetime political leverage? And what kinds of political goals can-and, just as importantly, cannot-be achieved through "forward military presence?" In the post-9/11 world, as the United States seeks to use its unrivalled global military predominance to build a safer, better world by preventing terrorism and encouraging societies around the world to embrace democracy, these questions take on enormous importance. Presence, Prevention, and Persuasion addresses these issues by looking at British, French, and American experiences in the Middle East, South America, the Caribbean basin, and Africa over the last two centuries. The authors' findings will have a significant impact on scholarship but, more importantly, on American decision-making communities. An essential volume for anyone working in the field of international relations whether it is policy making, diplomacy, military planning or the private sector.
Field Guide to Grasshoppers, Katydids, and Crickets of the United States

Field Guide to Grasshoppers, Katydids, and Crickets of the United States

John L. Capinera; Ralph Scott; Thomas J. Walker

Comstock Publishing Associates
2004
pokkari
In much of North America, crickets and katydids provide the soundtrack to summer nights, and grasshoppers frequent the fields and roadsides of midsummer days. Although insects from this group have long been the bane of those who make their living from the land, grasshoppers, katydids, and crickets are themselves crucial food sources for many species of birds, reptiles and amphibians, and other creatures. Field Guide to Grasshoppers, Katydids, and Crickets of the United States introduces readers to the biology, behavior, and ecological significance of one of the most obvious (abundant, large, and colorful) and important (ecologically and economically significant) insect groups in North America, the order Orthoptera. A simple, illustrated identification guide assists the reader in distinguishing among the various groups and narrows down the options to expedite identification. The book treats more than a third of the species found in the United States and Canada in brief, easy-to-understand sections that provide information on distribution, identification, ecology, and similar species. Distribution maps accompany each profile, and 206 species are pictured in color. Black-and-white drawings highlight distinguishing characteristics of some of the more difficult-to-identify species. Sonograms provide a graphic representation of the insects' distinctive sounds, which may be heard on Thomas J. Walker's website: Singing Insects of North America. This is the first treatment of North American grasshoppers, katydids, and crickets to portray the insects in full color, and it will be the first time many amateur naturalists and students have the opportunity to see the amazing and colorful world of Orthoptera, because many are cryptically colored (their bright colors evident only in flight) or cryptic in behavior (nocturnal in their habits). John L. Capinera, Ralph D. Scott, and Thomas J. Walker designed their book for amateur naturalists who wish to know the local fauna, for students who seek to identify insects as part of entomology and natural history courses, and for professional biologists who need to identify invertebrates. This invaluable field guide will be a useful supplement for laboratory and field activities and a reference for classrooms at every level.

Excellent balance of case excerpts and author explanation, highly appropriate for undergraduate students. --Dr. Wendy Brame, Briar Cliff University Political factors influence judicial decisions. Arguments and input from lawyers and interest groups, the ebb and flow of public opinion, and especially the ideological and behavioral inclinations of the justices all combine to shape the development of constitutional doctrine. Drawing from political science as much as from legal studies, Constitutional Law for a Changing America: A Short Course helps students realize that Supreme Court cases are more than just legal names and citations. With meticulous revising, the authors streamline material while accounting for recent landmark cases and new scholarship. Ideal for a one semester course, the Ninth Edition of A Short Course offers all the hallmarks of the Rights and Powers volumes (also included in the Constitutional Law for a Changing America series) in a more condensed format. In electronics manufacture, the expanding range of products and the smaller-and-smaller scale of increasingly integrated components is producing a trend towards complex and fault-susceptible processes. This fact, coupled with shorter production times and the importance of quality assurance necessitates that process technology be more adaptable and open to new procedures than ever before. "Electronics Process Technology" is a systemised presentation of new techniques and methods in electronics manufacture. Planning, preparation and execution are interlinked to achieve robust manufacturing processes that realise optimum quality, costs and quantities in the final product. Topics covered include: - modelling of manufacturing processes; - graph-theoretical approach to manufacturing planning; - process simulation and optimisation including cost optimisation; - quality assurance and statistical process analysis and control; - reliability models for electronic products and - assembly accuracy.
