A highly original tale of a man given a second chance at life with the guidance of a talking chicken. A bump on the head sends Jackson Fitzroy, known as Flanker, into a temporary amnesia. But all is not lost: As the owner of a chicken broiler house, he now has the companionship and assistance of MAC, a talking chicken, the most ancient spokeschicken. MAC, who has the uncanny ability to not only advise Flanker but also read his mind, carefully helps him piece together the details of his life. As his attachment to MAC and the others grows, Flanker learns more about the tragedies he had been running from before he hit his head, and he begins to understand how he can save himself, his marriage and his future. Told in a sardonic style, the well-paced story has flashes of comedy with surprising turns of insight.

The Caravan of Life

William D Hindy

William D. Hindy was just twenty-two years old when he was introduced to the teachings of Akumana. It was the early seventies and a great deal of information was beginning to arrive. Channeling certainly was not a highly accepted form of religious medium, especially for a young man raised in the Catholic faith. He wondered how he was going to take that glorious, rich, nourishing food and make it his life. It took Hindy almost forty years to surrender to the Father. In The Caravan of Life, he shares the teachings of Akumana that have been around for more than a thousand years. He covers a variety of topics from evolution and involution to the kingdom of heaven. Hindy discusses how: knowledge serves the purpose of the man-made world, but wisdom serves the purpose of escaping the man-made world; wisdom is the light of the soul; prayer helps reidentify you with your own purpose, your higher self, God; its the nature of divinity to survive, to cultivate, and to bring truth, not destruction; and your spirit, your well-being is cultivated by conscious work, self-conscious evolution. The Caravan of Life presents a journey through the pitfalls of life that leaves you with a profound understanding of who you are in Gods vast universe.

Sensory Mechanisms of the Spinal Cord

Sensory Mechanisms of the Spinal Cord

William D. Willis Jr.

Springer-Verlag New York Inc.

As stated in the preface to the first edition, the goal of this monograph is to provide an overview of current thought about the spinal cord mechanisms responsible for sensory processing. We hope that the book will be of value to both basic neuroscientists and clinicians. The organization of the monograph has followed the original plan in most respects, although the emphasis has changed with respect to many topics because of recent advances. In particular, a substantial increase in the number of investigations of the dorsal root ganglion has led us to devote a chapter to this topic. The treatment of chemical neuroanatomy in the dorsal horn, as well as the relevant neuropharmacology, has also been expanded considerably. Another major emphasis is on the results of experiments employing microneurography in human subjects. We thank Margie Watson and Lyn Schilling for their assistance with the typing and Griselda Gonzales for preparing the illustrations.

This book describes how God prepares believers for "life that is real life". We study and pray and seek righteous living, but there is no ultimate growth and maturity without God's training. There is no short-cut and no avoidance: We must be trained To understand God's training, we must also understand the purpose for His creation of man, the reasons for suffering, and His plan for drawing us closer to Him. God's training is intense and unpredictable, but the One who is training us does so in love and grace, and He offers with each new event specific resources to help us endure and draw maximum benefit from the experience.

Kersen, Robert E. Luckett Jr., Floyd W. Martin, Preselfannie W. McDaniels, Dawn McLin, Laura Ashlee Messina, Byron D'Andra Orey, Kathy Root Pitts, Candis Pizzetta, Lawrence Sledge, RaShell R. Smith-Spears, Joseph Martin Stevenson, Seretha D. Williams, and Karen C. Wilson-Stevenson, and Monica Flippin Wynn Redefining Liberal Arts Education in the Twenty-First Century delves into the essential nature of the liberal arts in America today. During a time when the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering, and math dominate the narrative around the future of higher education, the liberal arts remain vital but frequently dismissed academic pursuits. While STEAM has emerged as a popular acronym, the arts get added to the discussion in a way that is often rhetorical at best. Written by scholars from a diversity of fields and institutions, the essays in this collection legitimize the liberal arts and offer visions for the role of these disciplines in the modern world. From the arts, pedagogy, and writing to social justice, the digital humanities, and the African American experience, the essays that comprise Redefining Liberal Arts Education in the Twenty-First Century bring attention to the vast array of ways in which the liberal arts continue to be fundamental parts of any education. In an increasingly transactional environment, in which students believe a degree must lead to a specific job and set income, colleges and universities should take heed of the advice from these scholars. The liberal arts do not lend themselves to the capacity to do a single job, but to do any job. The effective teaching of critical and analytical thinking, writing, and speaking creates educated citizens. In a divisive twenty-first-century world, such a citizenry holds the tools to maintain a free society, redefining the liberal arts in a manner that may be key to the American republic.
