This book provides insight to China's foreign policy in Africa through the Belt and Roads Initiative. China's move towards economic expansion has left skeptics questioning her ambition for global economic dominance; to dislodge U.S. global influence: economic, military, and political. African leaders meanwhile find the lack of imposition of conditions on Chinese debt to be attractive, thus view China as a viable alternative business partner over the West. This book focuses on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) investment projects in Africa and how these projects will promote or hamper efforts to bring sustainable development and to bring about national unity. The book is unique because it fills a vacuum in the literature by focusing on important current problems that have contributed to the current African situation. It provides up-to-date analysis of Chinese BRI projects, mineral exploration, democracy, and consumerism as well as their implications for Africa's economic and political development.
Two travelers meet in the late 1930s crossing the Pacific to America's Philippine territory. They establish a life together just before World War II arrives in the commonwealth and find themselves abandoned by their government as mere pawns of war. Interned on the campus of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila by the Japanese with thousands of other civilians, they must create a completely new life. After a time the internment camp becomes a community and a sort of home. But as years pass and the fortunes of the Japanese Empire fade, life in the camp becomes a constant struggle against starvation and death. This is a heartwarming story of resilience, family ties and resourcefulness with a fascinating look at World War Two from the point of view of civilians caught in the middle.

Each postcard was postmarked thereby revealing the date. Later in years he recounted his adventures to his grandson who obtained the postcards from Germany and tracked his grandfather's travels then combined that with the stories grandfather told him.

In law enforcement, individuals are often promoted to supervisory positions before receiving training to serve in those positions effectively. This has ended in catastrophic failure or the proverbial sink-or-swim situation for many first-line supervisors. These first-line leadership failures can have a high price tag for law enforcement agencies. Readers of The MASCOT LEADER will find foundational success principles in their agency's mission, values, policies, and procedures, such as their Field Training Manuals. Using the MASCOT mnemonic, the reader will embark on visible and memorable perspectives of these usable principles. The MASCOT Leadership model is a valuable resource for officers seeking to become first-line supervisors or those already in the role but needing to heighten their leadership acumen. Moreover, there is a theme throughout the book stressing the officers' need to recognize that they are direct representatives, like a MASCOT, of their organization when in uniform. William G. Thompson Jr., also known as Jerry, is a retired law enforcement veteran who worked for the Ohio State Highway Patrol for 31 years. He began as a cadet dispatcher and advanced to become the Northeast Ohio LCS Unit Commander. Jerry's qualifications include Ohio Peace Officers Training Instructor, a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management, a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership, and a Northwestern University Staff and Command School graduate. Jerry is an instructor with FBI-LEEDA, providing instruction in Supervisor and Command Leadership concepts. He was raised by devout Christian parents who instilled values that have been key to his success in life and within every organization he has served. Jerry strongly believes every law enforcement officer needs to recognize that they are a direct reflection of their organization - a MASCOT.

Duane Amis Duane Amis Ministries/Kingdom Broadcasting El Dorado, AR Christians are called to grow in the things of God and the Bible provides specific virtues that are to be cultivated in that process. The greatest of these virtues is love. We are to love the Lord our God with all our heart and love our neighbor as ourselves. This book discusses love in various contexts and provides self-reflective questions at the end of each chapter for a person to think more deeply about how the content applies to him or her personally. The results of applying these principles accomplishes two purposes. First, the reader grows stronger spiritually. Second, the lives of people encountered will be blessed because of the self-examination that has occurred. Character is developed and the maturing Christian enhances the quality of life for other people.
