Beginning with the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., the North Philadelphia neighborhood of Logan experienced a massive change and shifting population. The racial boiling point in Philadelphia was ten years later in 1978. Ben's is set in the summer of that year when turf wars, crime and political upheaval were rampant in the city. The central character, Torch, is a small-time numbers writer who works for Bah-Bah, the head of a lucrative gambling and loan shark operation in south Philadelphia. When Bah-Bah is forced to change the location of his business and go underground, he runs into some tense situations with the members of Ben's. They are a loosely organized group of young men-including Torch-who are engaged in various types of petty crime and hustles. The situation is made more complicated and dangerous by the existence of a hidden meth lab and several, local, rogue cops who want to find it and rip it off.

Ben is a dog who lives with his rescue parents, Harold and Gladys, in a neighborhood surrounded by a ponderosa pine forest. He loves to sniff and explore and often becomes so distracted on hikes that he falls far behind and must be whistled back. But Ben's greatest joy is chasing squirrels. Albert is a gray squirrel who lives in the forest behind Harold and Gladys's house. He has gray tufted ears, a white tummy, and a long, twitchy tail he uses to taunt Ben. One evening, Albert teases Ben into a run through the forest. But when the game of chase is done, Ben discovers he is lost and alone in the woods, farther from home than he has ever been. How can he find his way back home to his family? Maybe Albert will be able to help him.

Ben Hogan's Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf
The first completely updated and refreshed edition of the timeless golf classic that has sold over a million copies--now with never-before-seen photos, original material, and memorabilia, hand-selected from the Hogan estate archive.Over the past sixty-five years, millions of golfers have studied Ben Hogan's Five Lessons, making it the bestselling golf book of all time. Now, Hogan's masterpiece has received the definitive edition it deserves, complete with never-before-seen archival gems and brand-new material for today's golfers. Widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers in the history of the sport, Hogan is especially known for his mastery of the golf swing. At the start of his career, he played with a hook that threatened to ruin his game, until he dedicated himself to correcting it--and in doing so, he gained a rare and hard-fought understanding of the fundamentals. Curious fans itched for clues about his legendary technique, dubbed "the secret," that allowed him to persevere and even return to the height of his powers after a car crash that shattered his body and almost took his life in 1949. His terse answer, "I dug it out of the dirt"--the dirt of the driving range--fueled the "Hogan mystique." He went on to become one of only five players to win all four professional championships, claiming nine major championships in total. In 1957, Hogan partnered with Herbert Warren Wind, "the dean of American golf writers" (The New York Times), and illustrator Anthony Ravielli to capture his expertise from the peak of his career in a series of lessons. He believed that any golfer with average coordination can learn to break eighty. With the groundbreaking techniques Hogan reveals in this essential book, you can learn how to make your game work from tee to green, step by step and stroke by stroke. In each chapter, a different tested fundamental is explained and demonstrated with clear illustrations, as though Hogan were giving you a personal lesson with the same skill and precision that made him a legend. Now expanded with a major new introduction, expert commentary on the book's legacy, unpublished photos of the publicity-shy Hogan, and more, this definitive edition offers greater context and fresh insight into an icon of the game.
