What is obesity? Does the BMI measure it and if not, why was it invented? Is weight gain all down to too many calories going in and not enough being expended or are there are other reasons for weight gain? Is it possible to lose weight without dieting and, if so, how? Which common medications can cause rapid weight gain and which common mineral can do the job of an oft prescribed medication for nerve pain which often causes massive weight gain? Are all calories equal? Well no, there are some foods that are recommended in calorie controlled diets that can actually cause weight gain. How can some bread cause weight gain and others not and no it isn't all to do with whether it is wholemeal or white bread. Can exercise actually increase weight and, if so, how? What do diuretics have to do with gaining weight - they do, but how? What impact does yellow light have on weight? All these and many other questions are answered in this book. It is the ultimate guide for those who don't do diets but want to know why they gained weight and more importantly how to lose it - simply and without stress. Another no nonsense book from lecturer and medical nutritionist, Lynne Noble

Many people will suffer from mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, during their lives. For some it may only happen once but, for others, these become enduring in nature impacting not only their lives but the lives who care for them.Prolonged stress can lead to a depletion of neurochemicals which impact mood. Lack of motivation and lack of pleasure can be addressed very easily and quickly once you learn how to use food and the nutrients it holds to your advantage.Prescription drugs aren't necessary and do carry with them a lot of side effects such as weight gain and, strangely enough, anxiety. Some nutrients, on the other hand can impact mood in as little as a couple of minutes provided they are taken on an empty stomach. Just as they can reduce anxiety and depression, they can also increase it so choosing nutrients wisely can make all the difference to mental health.Once you have learned the very simple lessons about the impact that nutrients have on mental health then you will be able to make judicious choices about what would be beneficial. All these nutrients are easily available in food that you should be eating everyday but they are also obtainable in supplement form for those who need an extra boost. This book is infinitely readable by medical nutritionist, Lynne Noble, who has taught these skills to many people. More importantly, what she has to teach, works and has revolutionised the lives of many people.
Migraine must be a contender for one of the most debilitating conditions and misunderstood conditions that there are. The impact that it has on the sufferer and their significant others is immeasurable and the working hours lost are great. Migraineurs are incapable of taking care of themselves never mind a young family when they are struck down so it is especially important that there is effective treatment for this debilitating condition.Although there are treatments available on prescription, many do not work or have unacceptable side effects or are taken too late in the stages of migraine. So, what are the stages of migraine? Why don't some migraine treatments work? Are there nutritional supplements that I can take that will work well but without the side effects of prescription medication? Is it possible to change the course of migraine once it has begun or shorten it if it is in full swing? The author, a medical nutritionist and a former migraineur herself, takes you through the stages of migraine explaining what happens at each stage and how intervention at each stage can prevent the migraine from progressing. Finally, she reveals the breakthrough that has meant that she has been able to stop her migraines altogether by simple dietary interventions which target the process prior to its initiation.
The Warning is a thing that comes directly from God and will be visible throughout the entire world in whatever place anyone might be.
EDS and Hypermobility Syndrome are diseases of connective tissue. They impact the quality of life, relationships and earning ability, among many others as well as carrying with them severe, and often intractable, pain. Given that connective tissue is distributed throughout the body, poor quality connective tissue has the ability to affect, tendon, ligaments, bones, skin and gut. Good quality connective tissue requires the necessary collagen forming building blocks to be in place before it can be synthesised. Most of this - if the necessary materials are present - will take place in the body but sometimes defective genes and defective diets (which could ameliorate the effects of rogue genes) prevent this from happening. The author argues that the massive changes in our diets which have occurred since the post war years have produced an increase in certain diseases which are the result of poor nutritional status. Our current eating choices have largely done away with three of the four essential building blocks necessary to build strong connective tissue. The author explains how to eat to introduce these substances back into the diet which will not only help you to build healthy tissue, but will also aid sleep as well as reduce inflammation and build lean muscle mass. This is a sequel to The Journey: living with EDS and chronic pain
There are many theories about the causes of multiple sclerosis and just as many diets that have claimed to slow the progression of MS but closer examination show that they do not live up to their expectations. The Swank diet was based on the fact that coastal fish eaters tended not to get MS when compared to the mountain dwelling meat eaters but why would this be? The author examines these diets in detail and finds some interesting differences in the types of nutrients of the diets which could account for why one group was more likely to get MS. However, the author doesn't stop there, she shows readers which nutrients are needed to reduce inflammation, regulate the immune system cells that appear to be inflammatory in nature and build good myelin sheath . She examines how viruses that are able to cross the blood brain barrier are responsible for attracting this population of immune system cell and further, how they instigate inflammatory processes. The author also informs which nutrients inhibit the brain atrophy which occurs in secondary progressive MS and how well researched nutrients can be used to address all the stages involved in the initiation and development of multiple sclerosis. This is a great little book which ventures into areas that other books on MS don't do. It gives simple explanations about why certain nutrients can make a difference to the progression of this disease. More importantly, these suggestions can be incorporated quite easily into daily life either by adding them to your diet or by purchasing supplements, many of which can be found in your local supermarket..
The neuropathic pain which accompanies shingles, and other conditions, is a pain like no other. It is described as sharp and stabbing or dull and aching. Even the pain of clothing can be exquisitely painful. It interferes with the quality of sleep, with eating, relationships. Shingles cannot be ignored. How can a reactivated childhood virus cause so much pain in older age?Shingles sufferers find that pain relievers like ibuprofen and paracetamol do not even begin to touch the pain but there are nutrients - and other surprising substances- that can help. When faced with an onslaught of neuropathic pain, as can be found in shingles, not only do we need to address the pain but we need to address the underlying damage to the nerves which is causing the pain. Without the latter, the pain will become chronic. The author shows you how to rebuild myelin sheath and deal effectively with the often intractable pain of shingles. She also advises keeping an antiviral medicine kit which may be used whenever viruses strike so that they are stopped dead in their tracks.

Drawing especially on insights emerging from studies of the cellular networks formed by fungi, this book describes the fundamental indeterminacy that enables life forms to thrive in and create inconstant circumstances. It explains how indeterminacy arises from counteraction between associative and dissociative processes at the reactive interfaces between living systems and their surroundings. It stresses the relevance of these processes to understanding the dynamic contexts within which living systems of all kinds — including human societies-explore for, use up, conserve and recycle sources of energy.By focusing on dynamic boundaries, the book counterbalances the discretist view that living systems are assembled entirely from building-block-like units — individuals and genes — that can be freely sifted, as opposed to channeled, by natural selection. It also shows how the versatility that enables life forms to proliferate in rich environments, whilst minimizing losses in restrictive environments, depends on capacities for error and co-operation within a fluid, non-hierarchical power structure. Understanding this point yields a more compassionate, less competitive and less self-centred outlook on life's successes and failures.

March 1941. Commodore John Braithwaite, retired British Royal Navy intelligence agent, leaps at the opportunity to return to the field. German Military Intelligence (Abwehr) discovers that the American atomic physicist Dr. Enrico Verdi, will travel to Africa aboard the Egyptian liner S.S. Zamzam and places an agent aboard hoping that Verdi will reveal a suspected atomic research facility. J. Edgar Hoover sends FBI agents to accompany Verdi, but London proposes placing Braithwaite aboard to watch over the scientist. Though rusty, the Commodore relishes the return to the field and takes his old code name ANTIMONY. Is he still up to snuff? Plagued by self-doubts and the troubling sense of a hovering malignant evil, he travels disguised as an American businessman. An attempted kidnapping reveals a sinister future for Verdi. And where are Hoover’s missing FBI men? Alone and without reinforcement, ANTIMONY is unaware of another, far more dangerous enemy than the clumsy Abwehr agent. ANTIMONY must protect Verdi armed only with his cunning, courage, wits and keen knowledge of the game as they cross dangerous Atlantic waters. Based on the actual incidents surrounding the final voyage of the SS. Zamzam, the historical novel Resurrection of ANTIMONY launches into the thrilling world of World War II espionage and intrigue where mission failure has high stakes for the world order and particularly, the Western democracies.

0245, 6 December 1941. USS Swordfish spots the Japanese strike force 600 miles from Pearl Harbor. In this alternative history adventure, Japan cancels the attack, preventing U.S. entry into the war. Free from American interference, Hitler's scientists perfect an operational atomic bomb. Demonstrating this newfound power, Germany obliterates a remote British village thus blackmailing Britain into an armistice and forcing America to remain neutral. Undeterred, British Intelligence must ferret out Germany’s atomic resources and destroy them. AGATHA, the stunning widow of a downed RAF pilot and superlative field agent in her cover as a neutral Swiss socialite in Berlin, becomes romantically involved with Luftwaffe General Peter von Zimmermann, pilot of the atomic attack, in hopes of gaining actionable intelligence. Discovering the atomic program’s location, she leads an assault on the facility, but the Germans still have three operational bombs. Enraged, Hitler orders a strike on Moscow. Zimmermann, despite his confliction over Nazi tyranny, pilots the mission flying a prototype strategic bomber nicknamed "The Linden Tree."
