The Behaviour and Design of Steel Structures to EC3

The Behaviour and Design of Steel Structures to EC3

CRC Press

The fully revised fourth edition of this successful textbook fills a void which will arise when British designers start using the European steel code EC3 instead of the current steel code BS5950. The principal feature of the forth edition is the discussion of the behaviour of steel structures and the criteria used in design according to the British version of EC3. Thus it serves to bridge the gap which too often occurs when attention is concentrated on methods of analysis and the sizing of structural components.Because emphasis is placed on the development of an understanding of behaviour, many analytical details are either omitted in favour of more descriptive explanations, or are relegated to appendices. The many worked examples both illustrate the behaviour of steel structures and exemplify details of the design process. The Behaviour and Design of Steel Structures to EC3 is a key text for senior undergraduate and graduate students, and an essential reference tool for practising structural engineers in the UK and other countries.

A unique resource that synthesizes existing primary and secondary sources to provide a fascinating introduction to the development and dissemination of science within history's great empires, as well as the complex interaction between imperialism and scientific progress over two centuries.Imperialism and Science is a scholarly yet accessible chronicle of the impact of imperialism on science over the past 200 years, from the effect of Catholicism on scientific progress in Latin America to the importance of U.S. government funding of scientific research to America's preeminent place in the world.Spanning two centuries of scientific advance throughout the age of empire, Imperialism and Science sheds new light on the spread of scientific thought throughout the former colonial world. Science made enormous advances during this period, often being associated with anti-Imperialist struggle or, as in the case of the science brought to 19th-century China and India by the British, with Western cultural hegemony.Packed with portraits of key scientists, their discoveries, and their achievements, bringing to life the contribution of scientists from even the most far-flung corners of empireIncludes a detailed chronology, bibliography, and a glossary of key scientific terms of the era, helping to make the history of science accessible to the general reader

Boken finns även i engelsk utgåva, The Market.
Tables of the Ordinates and Probability Integral of the Distribution of the Correlation Coefficient in Small Samples
The theory of correlation finds its origins in the pioneering work of Francis Galton. Lark Pearson and R. A. Fisher did much to develop the foundations of the subject in the early part of the twentieth century as the theory of mathematical statistics and its applications took shape. This book dates back to the 1930s, meeting the requirements of the time by providing tables of correlation coefficients to a considerable degree of accuracy, whilst also discussing a number of illustrative examples that employ the tables to provide a guide in drawing inference from observation.

This book invites the reader to take a unique journey through the history of the Solar System, the Earth, its evolving biodiversity and ecosystems, and the current state of the planet. It is an attempt to stimulate the reader’s sense of wonder and fascination with our planet: how it was created, the eons before it was populated by ourselves, how organic life, including humans, developed and evolved, and some of the threats we face during the Late Holocene. The Origins of All Things is well suited for teaching purposes, as it offers a synoptic, well-supported overview of key issues in biology and geology, and an easy introduction to key publications that broaden the scope of each chapter. The book is relevant for students of biology, geography, geology and anyone interested in the origin of life on Earth and its evolution.

A completely revised and expanded edition of a classic resource In the over twenty years since the publication of the Second Edition of Order Statistics, the theories and applications of this dynamic field have changed markedly. Meeting the challenges and demands of today’s students and research community, authors H. A. David and H. N. Nagaraja return with a completely revised and updated Order Statistics, Third Edition. Chapters two through nine of this comprehensive volume deal with finite-sample theory, with individual topics grouped under distribution theory (chapters two through six) and statistical inference (chapters seven through nine). Chapters ten and eleven cover asymptotic theory for central, intermediate, and extreme order statistics, representing twice the coverage of this subject than the previous edition. New sections include: *Stochastic orderings *Characterizations *Distribution-free prediction intervals *Bootstrap estimations *Moving order statistics *Studentized range *Ranked-set sampling *Estimators of tail index The authors further explain application procedures for many data-analysis techniques and quality control. An appendix provides a guide to related tables and computer algorithms. Extensive exercise sets have been updated since the last edition. In spite of many eliminations, the total number of references has increased from 1,000 to 1,500. Expanded coverage of shortcut methods, robust estimation, life testing, reliability, L-statistics, and extreme-value theory complete this one-of-a-kind resource. Students and researchers of order statistics will appreciate this updated and thorough edition.

The international standard for optics drawing notations, ISO 10110, uses a set of coded notations to indicate optical tolerances and requirements to mitigate any ambiguity in an optics drawing. This book provides a foundation for understanding the fundamentals of ISO 10110.

This book collects the notes of the lectures given at an Advanced Course on Dynamical Systems at the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM) in Barcelona. The notes consist of four series of lectures. The first one, given by Andrew Toms, presents the basic properties of the Cuntz semigroup and its role in the classification program of simple, nuclear, separable C*-algebras. The second series of lectures, delivered by N. Christopher Phillips, serves as an introduction to group actions on C*-algebras and their crossed products, with emphasis on the simple case and when the crossed products are classifiable. The third one, given by David Kerr, treats various developments related to measure-theoretic and topological aspects of crossed products, focusing on internal and external approximation concepts, both for groups and C*-algebras. Finally, the last series of lectures, delivered by Thierry Giordano, is devoted to the theory of topological orbit equivalence, with particular attentionto the classification of minimal actions by finitely generated abelian groups on the Cantor set.
