Die Nationalratswahlen im Herbst 1999 haben die politische Landschaft Österreichs einschneidend verändert. Im Februar 2000 wurde die neue ÖVP/FPÖ-Koalition unter Bundeskanzler Wolfgang Schüssel vereidigt. Die Autoren zeigen, dass dieser Machtwechsel sowohl in programmatischer Hinsicht als auch auf Ebene der politischen Entscheidungsprozesse und der realisierten Maßnahmen zu einem Bruch mit den für die Nachkriegsjahrzehnte charakteristischen Politik- und Entscheidungsmustern in der Sozialpolitik geführt hat.

Die Zeit bis 1939 und die ersten 45 Lebensjahre Hopps waren u erst bewegt und pr gend: Vom Arbeiterkind zum wandernden Malergesellen vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg, als Soldat berlebend, Dekorationsmaler-Meister sowie Fortbildung zum Kunstmaler zeigen enormen Bildungswillen. Als K nstler auch nach der Heirat 1923 mit seiner Frau ein Boh me-Leben f hrend kommt er 1927/8 zur Sesshaftigkeit in Fuhlsb ttel. Ehrenamtlich wirkt er in Sch ler-Bibelkreisen, in deren Arbeit er seit J nglingstagen ber den CVJM hineingewachsen war. Die Leitung der 'Werkst tte f r kirchliche Kunst im Rauhen Hause', Ausstellungen und erste literarische Beitr ge schaffen mehr Selbstbewusstsein. Mit Teilnahme am Wettbewerb um das Ehrenmal an der Kleinen Alster mit dem Bibelkreis-Freund Rudolf J ger, der als Dipl.Ing. die Ideen Hopps auch fachlich gut erg nzt, entsteht ab 1930 die Absicht zur Architektur-Zusammenarbeit. 1933 bringt der 5-k pfige Familie Trennung vom 'Rauhen Haus'; sie will in einem 'evangelischen Werkhaus' Auskommen finden und zieht auf den Dar . Dort gelingt ein erster Kirchenbau, der f r ihn und den Kompagnon Initialwirkung hat und mit zur Gr ndung des Architekturb ros 1935 f hrt.
Eine der Kirchen, die von Hopp und J ger (=H&J) in der Zeit vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg gebaut wurden, ist die im Alstertal in Klein-Borstel gelegene Kirche Maria-Magdalenen (=MM). Wie die anderen in dieser Zeit und Region von H&J gebauten Gottesh user zeigt sie viele Elemente eines gemeinsamen Stils, der Besuchern dieser Kirchen sofort ins Auge f llt. Sowohl im Neubau der Lutherkirche in Wellingsb ttel (1937), dem Um- und Erweiterungsbau St. Lukas in Fuhlsb ttel (1938) als auch in der Renovierung der St. Nicolaus-Kirche (1938) finden sich markante Balken-Inschriften und farblich abgestimmter Kassetten-Schmuck an Holzteilen der Emporen und T ren, kleine Glasfenster in Abtrennungen und urspr nglich ein gemauerter Steinaltar sowie teils Kronleuchter und Tonnendecken-Konstruktionen. - Aber jede dieser Kirchen hat auch ihr besonderes Gepr ge durch die k nstlerische Ausstattung, besonders des Altarraumes. Deshalb verdient jedes dieser Geb ude spezielle Betrachtung. Zumal in jeder der Gemeinden besondere W nsche und rtliche Gegebenheiten von H&J zu ber cksichtigen waren, die sich u.a. aus der jeweiligen kirchlich-politischen und theologisch-gemeindlichen Konstellation dieser Zeit verstehen lassen. Die Planungen f r den MM-Kirchbau haben eine mehrj hrige Vorgeschichte, bei der es u.a. auf gemeinsame Planungen sowohl mit den Verantwortlichen der Muttergemeinde in Fuhlsb ttel als auch mit dem ab April 1937 f r den Pfarrbezirk zust ndigen (und bereits als 'Pastor' designierten) Hilfsgeistlichen Rudolf Timm ankam. Dieser junge Mann, 1933 - noch als Student - in die NSDAP und SA eingetreten, beschrieb beim 2. Examen 1937 seine theologische Position zugleich als die der Bekennenden Kirche. Das stellte wohl nicht nur f r Damalige eine besondere Herausforderung dar, die es zu beleuchten gilt. An der Ausgestaltung der Kirche haben auch andere K nstler neben H&J mitgewirkt. Insbesondere der mit beiden Architekten befreundete Maler Hermann Junker verdient dabei besondere Beachtung. Di
F r die Architekten Hopp und J ger spielte die fotografische Dokumentation ihrer Projekte eine bedeutende Rolle: professioneller Fotografen-Bilder kamen dem Kunden entgegen, sein Bauwerk im vorteilhaften Licht darzustellen zu k nnen. F r H&J hatten die Sammlungen von Abz gen in ca. 40 x 40 cm gro en Fotoalben, wie sie meist f r die Bautr ger als Abschluss-Geschenk vorbereitet und als Doppel im B ro aufbewahrt wurden, auch Werbewirksamkeit gegen ber Neukunden. Diese konnten sich 'ein Bild' machen ber das Werk der Architekten und daran eigene Vorstellungen entwickeln. Wenn auch diese Alben weitgehend nicht mehr erhalten sind, so sind es doch ein Gro teil der Negative, von denen die Fotoabz ge herr hrten. Der Projektbericht Nr. 2 nutzt die in den ersten zwei Jahren wieder zusammengetragenen Fotodokumente, um m glichst alle bekannten Kirchbauten und Renovierungen auch optisch vorzustellen. In Bericht 1 noch nicht vermerkte Bauma nahmen sind jetzt als Erg nzung der Werkliste zugef gt, so dass das Oevre von nunmehr fast 80 Projekten pr sentiert werden kann.
