Emilio Silva Barrera, a prominent Spanish journalist, recounts his tireless search for, and discovery of, the body of his grandfather, a civilian who was murdered by fascist gunmen in the first months of the Spanish Civil War (1936-39) and left in a roadside ditch. Due to the pervasive fear that permeated daily life in that country, many thousands of victims of politically-motivated crimes were never discovered, no questions were asked, no justice served. Thanks to Silva's determination to right the wrongs of Spain's totalitarian past, the silence imposed by repression is being broken.Silva's determination to help families of "disappeared" relatives led him to create the Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory. This group is dedicated to the discovery, exhumation, identification and return of the remains of victims of political violence during and after the Spanish Civil War to their families for proper burial.Anyone who has ever felt powerless in the face of a seemingly impossible hurdle and asked, "But what can one person do?" should read this book.

Between 2008 and 2013 he collaborated with Florida International University (Miami) in the organization of concerts related to Cuban music. He has another book in preparation: Cuba en USA (Cuba in the USA) y Matanzas en la Mano (Matanzas in the Hand).CIEN BARCOS EN LA HISTORIA DE CUBA (ONE HUNDRED BOATS IN THE HISTORY OF CUBA). The main events of our History have been marked by boats. In remote times, Cuba was a barren territory ... and our first inhabitants arrived on ships. We became an island populated by Caribbean aborigines, but with Christopher Columbus' three caravels we became s a Spanish colony. And that we were until the Maine exploded in Havana, making us an independent country but very dependent on the United States. And then the Granma arrived, which routed the Island to the East and a good number of Cubans to the North. The boats of the Bay of Pigs tried, without success, to open a new chapter. All these boats made us Spanish, English and American. But, above all, they made us Cubans: With what they brought (Cachita, the shield, the flag, the Marti's Simple Verses, baseball, the butterfly, the national flower) --and what they took (emigration, sugar, the habanera)-- we made our Cuba and we became the people that we are today.
The Priest's Hat is a suspenseful, moving, and darkly funny tale loosely based on Count Alessandro Faella's murder of the priest Virgilio Costa in Imola in 1881. Against the background of late nineteenth-century Naples, the novel brings us the meltdown of an aging playboy, Carlo Coriolano, the last baron of a once-wealthy and powerful clan. Il Barone has squandered his inheritance and now can't support his extravagant tastes. He's been banned from his club and depends on his loyal, long-suffering housekeeper for pocket change. And if he doesn't repay an old loan, he'll soon be in jail. His solution is to lure to his crumbling, mortgaged ancestral estate, a greedy old priest, murder him, and then take possession of the priest's considerable riches. Of course, it all goes wrong, and the priest's hat takes us through a mirrored maze of guilt and self-deception as the baron attempts to maintain his equanimity and social position. A precursor of the Italian giallo genre, The Priest's Hat was first published in 1887 in installments. Echoing his contemporaries Dostoyevsky and Dickens, De Marchi intended this novel as an accessible yet literate expos of contemporary Italian society with its culture of gossip, rumor, and superstition; of powerful gangs and clergy; of misleading new philosophies, a frivolous, inept and corrupt media, and an inequitable justice system.First modern English translation of Il cappello del prete (1894).Introduction and notes. 192 pages.

Always RunningBy: Emilio Fuentes IIIIn Always Running, Emilio Fuentes III brings a unique and first-person account of living with a traumatic brain injury. The experiences he writes about deal with the time he spent at a transitional learning center helping patients with TBI's regain whatever independence their cognitive function will allow. He began documenting his journey to recovery from the first day he walked through the doors of that facility.Emilio shares his experiences as viewed through his eyes, the eyes of someone with an invisible disability. His story is raw and unfiltered, filled with humor and pathos. His observations of how the more severe TBI patients were sometimes treated by the staff are enlightening, which made him appreciate his higher level of functioning. In this revealing autobiography, you are inside the mind of someone with a traumatic brain injury as they navigate their path into a new reality. Someone with a bright future but because of one poor decision, the trajectory of his life changed forever. This story is more than his journey to recovery, it is about rebirth. A second chance at life. Perhaps not like the previous life, but life, nonetheless.About the AuthorEmilio Fuentes III is a young man in a relentless pursuit of regaining the independent living lifestyle that he was robbed of when he suffered a traumatic brain injury. Prior to the accident, he was attending college with a goal of having a career in law enforcement. Outside of the classroom he enjoyed daily trips to the gym and working on producing music in the evenings. He enjoyed an active social life which included family and friends. His big dreams turned into a nightmarish future due to bad decisions that culminated in a tragic accident. Running across an expressway while under the influence of halogenic drugs, he got hit by two vehicles and lay braindead on the pavement until paramedics arrived to transport him to the nearest trauma center. So, at the young age of 23, he lay comatose plugged to a ventilator, clinging to life. His prognosis was that if he did not wake up from his coma, he would have to be placed in a long-term care facility. He confounded all of his doctors when, seven days later, he was taken off the ventilator and rejoined the land of the living. Today, after extensive rehabilitation and a stint at a transitional learning center, he lives with his grandparents in Amarillo, Texas. Emilio continues to pursue his twin passions - writing about his experiences as a TBI survivor and expressing himself through his music.
