In this gorgeous collection, twenty-five of Emily Dickinson's most beloved poems are illustrated with stunning, full-color collage artwork. Poems include "Hope is the Thing with Feathers," "I'm Nobody Who are you?", "A Bird came down the Walk," "Success is counted sweetest," and many more. Brief commentary and helpful definitions accompany each poem, making The Illustrated Emily Dickinson among the most accessible--and beautiful--introductions to the Belle of Amherst available. From the Introduction: SUGGESTION 1: Enjoy the poems. This seems far more important than trying to puzzle out what the author meant (or what other people believe the author meant). SUGGESTION 2: Engage with the poems by asking questions.... SUGGESTION 3: Be your own boss. Read the poems in order or jump around as you see fit. Share them or savor them all by yourself. Say them aloud or whisper their words in your heart. Poetry makes life better. There is NO wrong way to experience a poem. So, read on, dear friend. And thank you for choosing poetry.

Em's nineteen years old and pregnant. Her boyfriend Pablo has gone out "to take care of something" and hasn't returned. Her mother, who raised Emily alone, moves into the little apartment to help. Meanwhile, Em's neighbour, who may or may not be a clergyman, wonders if it's normal to be so infatuated with someone you've never spoken to. Em's boss at the supermarket might have feelings for her too, if only she'd notice. Emily Forever is a poignant, achingly hard-hitting book about class and about digging deep to find what it takes to get by. At the same time, it's a deeply original exploration of how a girl like Emily is seen from the outside, by those who think they know who she is and how her life is supposed to pan out. Empathetic and quizzical, and scathingly humorous, Emily Forever is a novel of unyielding solidarity and smoldering social dissent, by a new star of Scandinavian literature.

Considered by many to be the spiritual mother of American poetry, Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) was one of the most prolific and innovative poets of her era. Well-known for her reclusive personal life in Amherst, Massachusetts, her distinctively short lines, and eccentric approach to punctuation and capitalization, she completed over seventeen hundred poems in her short life. Though fewer than a dozen of her poems were actually published during her lifetime, she is still one of the most widely read poets in the English language. Over one hundred of her best poems are collected here.

Widely acknowledged as an original creator who defined her own rules for poetry, Emily Dickinson remained unsung during her lifetime, with very few published works. The unconventional brilliance of her poems was only discovered posthumously. Dickinson experimented with grammar, form, structure and expression of the poem. These innovations in her style of writing have influenced modern poetry. This collection of poems reveals her poignant, intellectual and emotional reflections on various themes.

Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnett (24 November 1849 - 29 October 1924) was a British-American novelist and playwright. She is best known for the three children's novels Little Lord Fauntleroy (published in 1885-1886), A Little Princess (1905), and The Secret Garden (1911).Frances Eliza Hodgson was born in Cheetham, Manchester, England. After her father died in 1852, the family fell on straitened circumstances and in 1865 emigrated to the United States, settling in New Market, Tennessee. There, Frances began writing to help earn money for the family, publishing stories in magazines from the age of 19. In 1870, her mother died, and in 1872 she married Swan Burnett, who became a medical doctor. The Burnetts lived for two years in Paris, where their two sons were born, before returning to the United States to live in Washington, D.C. Burnett then began to write novels, the first of which (That Lass o' Lowrie's), was published to good reviews. Little Lord Fauntleroy was published in 1886 and made her a popular writer of children's fiction, although her romantic adult novels written in the 1890s were also popular. She wrote and helped to produce stage versions of Little Lord Fauntleroy and A Little Princess.Beginning in the 1880s, Burnett began to travel to England frequently and in the 1890s bought a home there, where she wrote The Secret Garden. Her elder son, Lionel, died of tuberculosis in 1890, which caused a relapse of the depression she had struggled with for much of her life. She divorced Swan Burnett in 1898, married Stephen Townsend in 1900, and divorced him in 1902. A few years later she settled in Nassau County, New York, where she died in 1924 and is buried in Roslyn Cemetery. In 1936, a memorial sculpture by Bessie Potter Vonnoh was erected in her honour in Central Park's Conservatory Garden. The statue depicts her two famous Secret Garden characters, Mary and Dickon. (wikipedia.org)
