Emma's Heart: A Journey of Faith, Hope, and Miracles is a story of a baby who was diagnosed with congenital heart disease a few days after she was born. She was a heart hero for five and a half months and then lost the battle against CHD but became a heart angel in heaven and in her family's hearts. Her journey tested their faith so many times, but in that journey, they learned how to keep hope in difficult moments, and they witnessed many unexplainable events, which could only be considered miracles.

Cambridge University Press
2010
pokkari
This remarkable collection of private correspondence between Emma Darwin and members of her family, published in 1904, provides the reader with a delightful and informative account of life in the late nineteenth century, and a picture of an amusing, educated, and caring woman. Emma Darwin (1808–1896) was especially remembered for her patience and fortitude in dealing with her husband's long term illness, which became apparent shortly after their marriage. In nursing and humouring Charles through his many ups and downs, she was a crucial factor in her husband's scientific accomplishments. She was responsible for bringing up their large family, running their household, and hosting visits from relatives and scientists. This, the first of two volumes edited by her daughter Henrietta, focuses on Emma's parents and relatives, up to 1839. Both volumes are organised chronologically, and include delightful illustrations from the family archives.

Emma Goldman’s No-Conscription League and the First Amendment

Emma Goldman’s No-Conscription League and the First Amendment

Emma Goldman’s Supreme Court appeal occurred during a transitional point for First Amendment law, as justices began incorporating arguments related to free expression into decisions on espionage and sedition cases. This project analyzes the communications that led to her arrest—writings in Mother Earth, a mass-mailed manifesto, and speeches related to compulsory military service during World War I—as well as the ensuing legal proceedings and media coverage. The authors place Goldman’s Supreme Court appeal in the context of the more famous Schenck and Abrams trials to demonstrate her place in First Amendment history while providing insight into wartime censorship and the attitude of the mainstream press toward radical speech.
