Near the banks of the Missouri River in northwest Missouri is where Jay Gore spent the first 18 years of his life. At age 10, he hunted small game in woodlots at his families' farm. He hunted the millions of ducks and geese that used the Missouri River as a corridor for migration. This horde of waterfowl gave Mr. Gore the spark to pursue a career in wildlife management. He obtained BS (1963) and MS (1965) degrees at South Dakota State University and the University of Maine respectively. He was a senior waterfowl biologist for 6 years with the Tennessee Fish and Game Commission. He had a 30-year career with three Federal agencies, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and USDA Forest Service. His first Labrador retriever possessed him at age 26 while living in Tennessee. He often wonders why people make the mistake of owning dog breeds other than Labs. After all, Labs are the perfect dog, not that he's biased or anything like that!

Think about the last time you tried to talk with someone who didn't already agree with you about issues that matter most. How well did it go? These conversations are vital, but too often get stuck. They become contentious or we avoid them because we fear they might. What if, in these difficult conversations, we could stay true to ourselves while enriching relationships and creating powerful pathways forward? What if our divergent values provided healthy fuel for dialogue and innovation instead of gridlock and polarization? Jason Jay and Gabriel Grant invite us into a spirit of serious play, laughing at ourselves while moving from self-reflection to action. Using enlightening exercises and rich examples, Breaking through Gridlock helps us become aware of the role we unwittingly play in getting conversations stuck. It empowers us to share what really matters - with anyone, anywhere - so that together we can create positive change in our families, organizations, communities, and society.

Ultimate soldier. Ultimate mission. But can the SAS pull off a daring prison break and escape from Communist-run Ethiopia alive? In 1975, Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, recently deposed in a Communist revolution, is declared dead. In the hands of the brutal army officer Mengitsu Haile Mariam, the country has descended into chaos and bloodshed. Then an astonishing truth emerges. The Emperor is being kept alive in prison by Mengitsu, but only until he reveals the location of his billion-pound fortune. The British and American governments will not tolerate a ruthless Communist regime’s acquisition of such wealth: it will destabilize the Middle East and all East Africa. There is only one answer: kidnap the Emperor. Three SAS soldiers ¬are selected for this hazardous mission, which is like nothing the regiment has ever tackled before: to penetrate a remote desert fortress and then to escape through arid highlands with a frail old man in tow. Only extraordinary duplicity will get them in. Only acute tactical expertise and merciless improvisation will get them out. And if anything goes wrong, it will be as if they had never existed.
Mia Corvere is only ten years old when she is given her first lesson in death. Destined to destroy empires, the child raised in shadows made a promise on the day she lost everything: to avenge herself on those that shattered her world.
