Lay Baptism Invalid. An Essay to Prove, That Such Baptism is Null and Void, When Administer'd in Opposition to the Divine Right of the Apostolical Succession. ... By R. Laurence, M.A. ... of 2; Volume 1
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic -- a debate that continues in the twenty-first century.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. They tried to kill the ugliness but they only made it stronger. The icecaps melted and the water consumed the shorelines but New York City still stands. All four boroughs prosper thousands of feet over the old metropolis hastily protected by walls. Proper citizens live above in a beautiful, protective dome on concrete stilts and criminals serve life below in the polluted, walled ghost of a city. Richard Smith, a street-sweeper, enjoyed life in NYC with his wife until their deformed, life-supported child is medically terminated at birth by the government, pulling Richard's soul into darkness. When he receives a distressing message from a group known as Right-To-Life, Richard sinks lower. His child and many others may be alive and living with the criminals below in old New York. He needs to find his son and there is only one way possible to confirm if it's true. What he finds may be more than what society above can fathom. A tense, wild ride of a sci-fi dystopian novel from the author of the Blunt Force Kharma series.

They keep getting shocked even before they touch the disconnect.""At their own pole? ?""Yes. Their own power pole is shocking them.""What about cutting off the whole block?""Not that simple. There are a lot of lawyers who live in this neighborhood of yours and they already know about your haunted 'smart home'. They've let us know that it will be costly if we try. Besides, the next closest substation takes out dozens of blocks around here. We aren't going to turn everyone off just because you lost the password to your own smart home.""It's not the password, I tell you..." The owner was fuming by now, fists clenched. "Oh, just never mind." Then the smartphone was pocketed. The windows on the house pulsed red and green. And no, they didn't leave their Christmas decorations up.The last technician who was willing to come out and have a look at their house said that it reminded him of breathing. And after we fired him, no other company would agree to take it on - but would schedule us their "next possible opening" - some months from now.The owner, his wife, and two kids were just standing on their sidewalk. With their pets on leashes. Even their cars were locked inside the garage. All they had been able to take with them were their smartphones, a game controller, and a tablet. But accessing their smart home control panel only gave them a PAC-man-era pixelated sad face.Worse than sad - angry.Calls to the company who made the programs and installed them went unanswered, or were refused. And after that, their phone went dead. All like some horrible prank-turned-harassment.At last, one of the neighbor's wives came over and called a cab for the family on her own phone. The cab arrived, the family left. And the on-looking neighbors went back inside - or got in their own cars to leave and stay elsewhere until that spooky house was resolved. Or at least knew their house wasn't going to be next.It was close to sunset now. And while all the houses had power, the streetlights on that street and the others near them failed to come on.Police sent patrol cars to manage traffic in those streets, but wouldn't come down to that vacant house. The one that breathed red and green - and looked far more ominous in the dark...Scroll Up and Get Your Copy Now

From cowering, introverted founders of the alternative rock movement to one of the twenty best-selling American bands of all time, the story of R.E.M. covers three decades, two generations and the passions of millions. First, they lifted a humble, Southern college town into myth, re-calibrating rock music at the moment that it threatened to reach the point of terminal excess, and then, unsatisfied, they carried their progressive ideology right into the heart of mainstream popular culture, selling over 85 million records and winning universal acclaim along the way, totally without compromise. R.E.M. Album by Album tells that story, tracing the band from its formation in 1980 when four young men sought respite from the difficulties of real life by starting a covers band, right up until their eventual split in 2011, shedding new light on the lyrical and musical development of the band as artists, from their esoteric early masterpieces to the moment that they signed the world's largest ever recording contract. For the very first time, too, we examine the first decade after the band's demise, scrutinising the shifting sands of their legacy as the dust settles on one of pop music's most extraordinary careers.

We have Czech writer Karel Čapek to thank for the invention of the word robot and generally for the introduction of the idea of artificial intelligence to the world of literature. His play, "R. U. R. (Rossum's Universal Robots)" was written in 1920 and was first performed in 1921. The play was an instant success and was translated into over 30 languages within two years of its first performance. The play begins in a factory that makes the "robots", which could be more accurately described as cyborgs, since they are more living creature than machine. "R. U. R." envisions a future where robots have become universal and all of humanity is now dependent on the labor that they provide, which remains a timely subject even one hundred years later. At first, everything seems perfect and the robots are happy to serve humans until the robots are later stirred into revolt. Čapek's vision of a dystopian future where humans may be ruled by machines was immediately and profoundly influential on the science fiction genre and to future authors. "R. U. R." is Čapek's prophetic and dark dystopian vision of the future which would solidify his place in dramatic history and leave a lasting legacy on modern literature.
