Dr. Richard Jordan Gatling's GATLING GUN PATENT DRAWINGS
This book contains copies of all Dr. Gatling's original Gatling Gun patent and patent drawings from the United States Patent Office. Also included are the patent drawings of the Broadwell Drum Feed, Bruce feed and Accles feed that was used on Colt Gatling Guns. Shortly after the outbreak of the American Civil War, Dr. Richard J. Gatling began work on his most famous invention. A prototype gun was made late in 1861 and was demonstrated in Indianapolis early in 1862. On November 4, 1862, Dr. Gatling received the first of his 10 patents for the famous gun that etched his name into history forever. The Gatling Gun was sometimes called by Dr. Gatling, Colt Firearms Company and the United States Patent Office as a battery gun, rotating battery gun, rotating cannon and machine gun. When the "modern" machine gun was made, it was referred to as an automated machine gun. These patent drawings provide a step back in time to view a technically advanced 19th century weapon that changed history.

Song of the Eclectic Tambourine begins in 1968 when Marc Amati falls in love with two young women as disparate as the political climate of the times. Lilly Garrett is a courageous flower child committed to non-violence, social justice, and ending the Vietnam War, while Mary Belinda is wealthy, talented, and determined to achieve the fame her mother was cheated by McCarthyism and Hollywood sexism. What Marc learns from, and because of, both women will affect life and help him deal with the challenges of his generation: humanity versus expediency, compassion versus profit, and self-interest versus altruism. For Marc, it is a coming of age in stages. Both women face their own ordeals as they attempt to succeed in a hostile society - Mary being a strong-willed woman in the recording industry, and Lilly in a series of social and political endeavors. Marc's story is an ironic, irreverent, and critical look at the past and its effect on the present. More at http://www.dtdesertrat.wordpress.com

On Solitude, Conscience, Love and Our Inner and Outer Lives
Ron Haflidson places the theology of Augustine in conversation with contemporary authors, who warn of the dangers of abandoning solitude for constant (often technological) connection. Haflidson addresses an essential question that has previously been neglected: What difference does it make to the practice of solitude if one believes that even in the absence of any human company, God is always intimately present? For Augustine, solitude is a moral necessity: he recommends that we regularly retreat from the crowd into the depths of our conscience, where we can dwell alone in the company of God, and enter into dialogue before and with God about who we are and how we love. Throughout this book, Haflidson pairs close readings of Augustine with those of noted cartographers of our inner lives, literary greats including Jane Austen, George Eliot, Marilynne Robinson and George Saunders. This book explores what undiscovered possibilities may lie in solitude.

Ever since the Second World War and the Holocaust, historians, psychologists and theologians alike have attempted to explain how a single personality could bring about some of the greatest horrors of the modern era. Ron Rosenbaum's Explaining Hitler investigates the meanings and motivations people have attached to Hitler and his disturbing policies - and whether or not he believed his own doctrines - and explores the continuing fascination with the nature of evil. The book also documents the story of the earliest critic of Hitler, the Munich Post in the 1920s and 1930s, and its violent demise.First published in 1998, and using interviews of leading experts such as Hugh Trevor-Roper, Alan Bullock and Daniel Goldhagen, and discussing the work of many more, Exploring Hitler is a balanced overview of a dark subject.

The play is a musical reconstruction of incidents relating to the East End murders which took place between Friday, August 31st and Friday, November 9th, 1888. A solution of Jack the Ripper's identity is hinted at, but the play is an atmospheric commentary rather than an historical re-enactment, shifting between reality and artificiality, with characters representing "real" people as well as members of the music hall audience and players.8 women, 8 men

That's the question posed by this light and funny suspense comedy about a love triangle in a Howard Johnson Motor Inn. In the first episode, Mitchell, an obvious and commonplace dentist who sees himself as the dashing, heroic type and Arlene, a middle aged "Femme Fatale" of sorts, plan to murder her husband Paul, a blundering used car salesman. In the third episode, the two men, feeling foolish and betrayed themselves, join forces against Arlene. This murder attempt, like the others, fails. Ron Blicq / Drama / 4m, 3f / Unit Set Winner of the Samuel French Canadian Playwrighting Competition Donald Barlow, who lives in Nottingham, England, decides to search for his father who, he has discovered, was a visiting Canadian serviceman during World War II. Following his mother's death, Donald engages a search agency to find his father (Gordon Devereaux) and establish contact. But when the agency does find Devereaux, the elderly man vehemently denies his involvement with Donald's mother and categorically refuses to meet the man who claims to be his son. Donald's journalist daughter Claire refuses to give up and, using her married name, flies to Canada to meet and interview Devereaux. She takes her nine-year-old son with her (who actually is Devereaux's great-grandson) and a unique and unexpected friendship develops between the crusty old man and the boy. Although Claire had not intended to reveal the connection between them, she now privately telephones her father and suggests he fly to Canada. Yet her secret plan is shattered when the boy tells Devereaux things about his family, from which the old man deduces the connection and recognizes he has been duped. This sets in motion a vicious and seemingly irreversible conflict between Claire and Devereaux. The two men do eventually face each other, but both are angry and unforgiving.
