Rudolf Tobiasel (1873-1918) on Eesti muusika kujunemisloos väga oluline roll. Hiidlaste jaoks on erilise tähendusega helilooja Hiiumaa päritolu.Tobiasest on mitmeid raamatuid juba kirjutatud, kuid viimase pikema eestikeelse ülevaate ilmumisest saati on üksjagu vett merre voolanud. Uue väljaande jaoks kirjutajat otsides leiti, et on olemas Elke Voelkeri saksakeelne doktoritöö. Töö autor on mahukat doktoritööd väljaandja palvel kohendanud ja veidi lühendanud ning see siin on teose esimene, sissejuhatav osa.Tõlkijana ja faktide täpsustajana andis raamatu valmimisse märkimisväärse panuse Anu Schaper. Mõned Rudolf Tobiase õdede algselt saksa keeles kirjutatud luuletused on Viiu Härm selle raamatu jaoks talle omase tundlikkusega esmakordselt eestindanud.Loodetavasti saab sellest raamatust järjekordne tõestus, et Rudolf Tobiase elu ja loomingu uurimine pakub huvi nii eesti kui saksa kultuuriruumis ning mälestus temast elab edasi meie kõigi südames.
