The New-Jersey Almanack for the Year of Our Lord 1786. ... Fitted to the Latitude of Forty Degrees, and a Meridian of Near Five Hours West from London. ... by Timothy Trueman, Philom
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. This collection reveals the history of English common law and Empire law in a vastly changing world of British expansion. Dominating the legal field is the Commentaries of the Law of England by Sir William Blackstone, which first appeared in 1765. Reference works such as almanacs and catalogues continue to educate us by revealing the day-to-day workings of society.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. The Book of Jasher (Book of the Just, Sefer haYashar): Referenced in 2 Samuel 2:18, Joshua 10:13, 2 Timothy 3:8. Modern English translation
Unveiling the Lost Scripture: The Book of JasherTwice mentioned in the Bible yet shrouded in mystery for centuries...Journey beyond the familiar boundaries of biblical narrative and discover the ancient Book of Jasher-a forgotten text that illuminates the shadows between the verses of Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and Joshua. When Joshua commanded the sun to stand still in the sky, the Bible itself points to Jasher as witness. When David instructed his people in the way of the bow, again Scripture references this enigmatic book. Yet for generations, this text has remained in obscurity, its detailed accounts of biblical history untold.Delve into the extraordinary life of Joseph beyond what Genesis reveals-his trials, triumphs, and the intimate details of his remarkable journey from slave to savior of Egypt. Encounter Jannes and Jambres, the mysterious magicians who opposed Moses before Pharaoh, named in the New Testament yet appearing nowhere else in canonical Scripture except within these ancient pages. The Book of Jasher stands as a fascinating historical bridge, filling crucial gaps in biblical chronology and adding rich context to stories you thought you knew. While scholars debate its origins, some-including respected academics among the Latter-Day Saints-recognize its authentic value as a window into biblical times.Uncover this remarkable text that challenges, complements, and deepens our understanding of sacred history. The Book of Jasher awaits those brave enough to look beyond the familiar verses and explore the untold stories of our spiritual heritage. Dr. Edward Hammond translated The Book of Jasher from the Hebrew text Sefer haYashar, as found in the Venice 1625 edition and other historical Hebrew manuscripts."

Philip K. Dick: Valis and Later Novels (Loa #193): A Maze of Death / Valis / The Divine Invasion / The Transmigration of Timothy Archer
In 2007, Philip K. Dick: Four Novels of the 1960s became the fastest selling title in The Library of America's history. The 2008 companion volume, Five Novels of the1960s & 70s, broke series records for advance sales. Now comes a third and final volume gathering the best novels of Dick's final years, when religious revelation, always important in his work, became a dominant and irresistible theme. In A Maze of Death (1970), a darkly speculative mystery that foreshadows Dick's final novels, colonists on the planet Delmak-O try to determine the nature of the God-or "Mentufacturer"-who plots their destiny. The late masterpiece VALIS (1981) is a novelistic reworking of "the events of 2-3-74," when Dick's life was transformed by what he believed was a mystical revelation. It is a harrowing self-portrait of a man torn between conflicting interpretations of what might be gnostic illumination or psychotic breakdown. The Divine Invasion (1981), a sequel to VALIS, is a powerful exploration of gnostic insight and its human consequences. The Transmigration of Timothy Archer (1982), Dick's last novel, is by turns theological thriller, roman clef, and disenchanted portrait of late 1970s California life, based loosely on the controversial career of Bishop James Pike-a close friend and kindred spirit. LIBRARY OF AMERICA is an independent nonprofit cultural organization founded in 1979 to preserve our nation's literary heritage by publishing, and keeping permanently in print, America's best and most significant writing. The Library of America series includes more than 300 volumes to date, authoritative editions that average 1,000 pages in length, feature cloth covers, sewn bindings, and ribbon markers, and are printed on premium acid-free paper that will last for centuries.
Commentary on the Letters of Saint Paul to the Philippians, Colossians, Thessalonians, Timothy, Titus, and Philemon
Although Thomas Aquinas's influence over philosophy endures to this day, the medieval genius did not consider himself a philosopher, but a Scripture scholar. The Aquinas Institute's hardcover Latin-English editions of Aquinas's commentaries on the Letters of St. Paul make many of these commentaries available in English for the first time. The bilingual format makes the work of this intellectual giant accessible to a broader audience than ever before in history. Aquinas's commentaries on the Pauline letters is a great gift for pastors, seminarians, or anyone who seeks a deeper intellectual reflection on Scripture.
All's for the Best. By: T. S. Arthur: Timothy Shay Arthur (June 6, 1809 - March 6, 1885)
Timothy Shay Arthur (June 6, 1809 - March 6, 1885) - known as T. S. Arthur - was a popular 19th-century American author. He is most famous for his temperance novel Ten Nights in a Bar-Room and What I Saw There (1854), which helped demonize alcohol in the eyes of the American public. He was also the author of dozens of stories for Godey's Lady's Book, the most popular American monthly magazine in the antebellum era, and he published and edited his own Arthur's Home Magazine, a periodical in the Godey's model, for many years. Virtually forgotten now, Arthur did much to articulate and disseminate the values, beliefs, and habits that defined respectable, decorous middle-class life in antebellum America. Early years Born just outside Newburgh, New York, Arthur lived as a child in nearby Fort Montgomery, New York By 1820, Arthur's father, a miller, had relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where Arthur briefly attended local schools. At age fourteen, Arthur apprenticed to a tailor, but poor eyesight and a general lack ofjfhdughfdnkjfdhidfhsnfwr dwugeuheuhuuitude for physical labor led him to seek other work. He then found employment with a wholesale merchandiser and later as an agent for an investment concern, a job that took him briefly to Louisville, Kentucky. Otherwise, he lived as a young adult in Baltimore. Smitten by literature, Arthur devoted as much time as he could to reading and fledgling attempts to write. By 1830, he had begun to appear in local literary magazines. That year he contributed poems under his own name and pseudonyms to a gift book called The Amethyst. Also during this time he participated in an informal literary coterie called the Seven Stars (the name drawn from that of the tavern in which they met), whose members also included Edgar Allan Poe.
