This book invites readers, particularly clergy members, to rethink their understandings of the human person in light of recent developments in neuroscience. In addition to bringing together religion and neuroscience, it engages narrative theory, exercise physiology, and constructions of wellness to raise crucial questions about human identity and relationality and argue for a model of care that connects self-care and care for/with others. Furthermore, it claims that human beings are whole, intra/inter-relational, dynamic, plastic, and performative agents who have the capacity to story themselves neurophysiologically (in both “top-down” and “bottom-up” ways) through their regular practices of wellness.

My father wrote this western back in the late forties to early fifties, when he was a young man with big dreams fresh out of college-dreams which had to be postponed by his stint in the Navy during World War II. He has long since passed away, but his book remained, gathering dust on my shelf when it should have been entertaining good folks like you. So here it is at last: a western with heart written on an old manual typewriter. The story takes place in the badlands of West Texas (where he lived), and is chock-full of all the sprawling drama, heartache, triumph, tragedy, and gun-slinging grit one could desire. The cover of the book is adapted from an oil painting brushed by my father back in 77-one of many. I remember it hanging on the wall when I was a kid. I believe it was his favorite, so I thought it only fitting that it be the cover. Now, finally, after all these years, my dad will get the recognition he deserves for both his writing and his painting.I sure hope that he can see what's going on down here, 'cause I know it would make him smile. So take a deep breath, and let the troubles of the modern world slip away as you journey back to a simpler time (two simpler times, actually), the old west, and the 1940's....

This book is for believers who struggle with sin. Those who are comfortable with sin are in trouble, because they have not matured enough for sin to bother with them. But if they have grown at all in knowledge and grace, then they have surely been introduced to the "law of sin", and have learned that, for every step forward they take, sin increases its efforts to pull them back. To beat sin, believers need ALL of God's resources. This book tells how to access them.
The Political Economy of Collective Action, Inequality, and Development
This book examines how a society that is trapped in stagnation might initiate and sustain economic and political development. In this context, progress requires the reform of existing arrangements, along with the complementary evolution of informal institutions. It involves enhancing state capacity, balancing broad avenues for political input, and limiting concentrated private and public power. This juggling act can only be accomplished by resolving collective-action problems (CAPs), which arise when individuals pursue interests that generate undesirable outcomes for society at large. Merging and extending key perspectives on CAPs, inequality, and development, this book constructs a flexible framework to investigate these complex issues. By probing four basic hypotheses related to knowledge production, distribution, power, and innovation, William D. Ferguson offers an analytical foundation for comparing and evaluating approaches to development policy. Navigating the theoretical terrain that lies between simplistic hierarchies of causality and idiosyncratic case studies, this book promises an analytical lens for examining the interactions between inequality and development. Scholars and researchers across economic development and political economy will find it to be a highly useful guide.
