Anna, a young Swiss beauty, and Boris, a Russian refugee twice her age, become captivated with each other after a brief first encounter. Over Anna's parents' objections and despite strict travel restrictions imposed on foreigners by the Swiss authorities, their love survives and deepens through an extensive correspondence lasting nearly two years. Both haunted by pasts they are determined to overcome, Anna and Boris explore the nature of their love, debate their plans for the future, and contend with the thorny differences that threaten to pull them apart. These extraordinary love letters are much more than mere expressions of affection. They cover a world of subjects-art, music, literature, philosophy, religion, ethics, politics-and even how to lose weight. Anything is up for discussion between Boris and Anna if it relates to their development as a couple or as independent human beings. This book offers a detailed portrait of two disparate, fascinating individuals during a volatile time in their lives, a period that coincides with the last months of World War II and the beginning of reconstruction in Europe.Translated and edited by Boris and Anna's daughter Vera Kochanowsky, this volume includes extensive explanatory material, photographs, and a moving afterword, "Grandmother's Gift."

Anna turned 21 years old on the day that she arrived in Vancouver, British Columbia. She felt twice that age. The mirror on the train reflected dark circles beneath her brown eyes and a thin face. Her overall appearance was only saved by her glowing, abundant hair.A Jewish girl, she was emigrating from Glasgow, Scotland, with her husband and baby daughter. Her father, on her departure, had said: "You'll live to regret this decision. You were always the one to chase wild dreams, wanting more than you had.""Isn't a dream better than this?" she had asked, sweeping her arms to take in their surroundings. It was 1922 and Canada was in the midst of Great Depression. When Anna was called upon to honor a commitment to a Jewish friend caught in pre-war Europe, she needed to balance a career that she had worked hard to establish so she could foster a nine-year-old child. Her dreams took a direction that she had never expected.

When a fierce blizzard suddenly kicks up on a mild winter day, a young Nebraska girl must find the courage and strength to lead others to safety in this novel inspired by the true story of the 1888 School Children's Blizzard. Twelve-year-old Anna loves life on the Nebraska prairie where she lives with her parents and four-year-old brother in a simple sod house. She doesn't mind helping out with chores, especially when she is herding sheep with her beloved pony, Top Hat. On the open prairie, Anna feels at home. But at school she feels hopelessly out of place. Arithmetic is too hard, her penmanship is abysmal, and stuck-up Eloise Baxter always laughs at her mistakes. When a unexpected blizzard traps Anna, her schoolmates, and their young teacher in the one-room schoolhouse, Anna knows they must escape before it is too late. Does she have the courage and strength to lead her class through the whiteout to safety? Alison Hart offers young readers a dramatic story of rescue and survival featuring a plucky, determined protagonist. An author's note provides more information about prairie life in the late nineteenth century and about the School Children's Blizzard.

Anna Bright is committing fraud. But nobody knows it yet. Not the board of her multibillion-dollar company, not her investors, not the public breathlessly anticipating the launch of BrightSpot, and not the media - including Jamie Roman, a hardworking journalist for BusinessBerry. But when Jamie does learn about Anna's misconduct, she embarks on a bicoastal journey to expose the crimes and make a name for herself as a journalist. It's not long before Anna learns what the reporter is up to, however - and she'll do anything to stop Jamie. Especially now that BrightLife's IPO is days away.
