Letters From Baron Haller to his Daughter, on the Truths of the Christian Religion. Translated From the German. The Second Edition, Corrected
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic -- a debate that continues in the twenty-first century.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. This is a lavishly illustrated and narrative study of the combat career of Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron. Using all original artwork painted by the author, The Red Baron’s Kills details every one of his 80 aerial victories. Using original source material. the author recreates the moment in combat the Red Baron shot down each of his victories to make him the leading ace of the First World War. Of special interest is the fact that the Red Baron flew a variety of aircraft other than his famous all red Foker D.l. triplane. The paintings will provide a visual scene along with descriptive text to explain the situations behind each victory or kill in a clear, graphic timeline. The First World War was the first time aviation was used on a grand scale. The biplanes and later triplanes they flew were sometimes brightly colored like that of the Red Baron's, making him unmistakable while flying. The planes were constructed of wood, doped canvas, wire cables and sheet metal. They groaned to go more than 125 miles per hour. Pilots were considered to be heroic knights of the air, the Red Baron chief among them.

For two years in the mid-thirteenth century England was torn by a bloody civil war between the king and his nobles. For a short time, the country came close to unseating the monarchy, and the outcome changed the course of English history. Yet this critical episode receives far less attention than the Wars of the Roses and the English Civil Wars that followed. John Sadler, in this highly readable and perceptive study of the Barons' War, describes events in vivid detail. He explores the leading personalities, whose bitter quarrel gave rise to the conflict - Henry III, his son Prince Edward, later Edward I, and their most famous opponent, Simon de Montfort, whose masterful charisma galvanized support among the discontented nobility. The clash of interests between the king and his overmighty subjects is reconsidered, as are the personal and political tensions that polarized opinion and tested loyalties to the limit. But the main emphasis of John Sadler's account is on events in the field, in particular the two major campaigns that determined the course of the war and indeed the future government of England - the battles fought at Lewes and Evesham.

Manfred von Richthofen, the iconic Red Baron, has remained at the forefront of First World War studies ever since he became recognised as one of the most illustrious fighter pilot aces of the conflict. As we approach the centenary anniversary of his death and the ending of the Great War, it seems like a good time to introduce a new arrangement of photographs covering the entire span of his war. Since the release of his earlier books exploring similar themes, a constant trickle of new information has filtered down to the author. Although none of it specifically challenges the conclusions drawn in earlier publications, in consolidating them here hes been able to preserve some significant notes of interest. Following a number of visits to Belgium and Northern France in recent years, Franks has managed to acquire fascinating images illustrating the places in which the Red Baron lived and fought between 1916 and 1918. This collection represents the entire span of von Richthofens recorded history in pictures, some new and lesser-known, some iconic and widely circulated; all housed here together under one roof for the very first time.

"Opposites attract and sparks fly when the vivacious Arabella falls for a baron who lives under the shadow of a scandalous family secret. 1815, London Arabella Latham is a free spirit who longs to feel the spark of true love, but few men can match her passion for Shakespeare or her zest for life. Though her prospects seem slim, Arabella knows she can always count on the handsome but stoic Lord Henry Northcott, dubbed "The Brooding Baron" by the ton, to be willing to engage in intelligent conversation and even share a congenial dance with her at almost every ball. His quiet demeanor is the opposite of her vivacious personality, and she finds herself drawn to him, despite their differences. Lord Northcott has quietly admired Arabella for years, grateful that his friendship with her brother has allowed him to share in her company and even begin to secretly imagine a life together with her. But he knows he cannot pursue a romantic relationship with any woman--let alone someone as bright and beautiful as Arabella--because of the shadow that an old family scandal has cast over his life. He has vowed to preserve what is left of his family's reputation by holding himself above reproach apart from society and focusing the majority of his efforts at Parliament. But Arabella is determined to show Lord Northcott that life is meant to be enjoyed, and she sets out to see what is behind the walls the Brooding Baron has built around himself. Could the spark of true love be enough to drive away the shadows holding Henry back?"
