Boomerist Fred Lavner presents an expanded excerpt from his hilariously funny memoir--BOOM: Comic Confessions of a Boomer Corner Boy. Camp Airy Hi-Jinx and Tricky Dick recalls glorious summers in the 1960s in the Catoctin Mountains, high above Thurmont, Maryland and adjacent to the Presidential retreat, Camp David. Lavner and friends engaged in plenty of fun and wild times, some of which are finally outside of the statute of limitations in three states

Here's what this book is NOT: An actual cookbook A recipe to a successful political "campaign" A sales-y "how-to" guide to achieve that next big cash windfall A list of why professional marketers are better than you Difficult to read Here's what this book IS: Tips for making your marketing language more effective How to use imagery and descriptive language to paint a picture in the mind of your customer through words Demystification of the different types of offers, which ones you should use and when Ways to prod at your customers' emotions to bring them to a decision - and transaction - quicker A very important, yet really simple step that you're probably forgetting about.
The writer of these letters was a mere boy when he entered the Confederate service, as a member of the Fourth Regiment South Carolina Volunteers, where he served during the first year of the war, being respectively in the commands of Generals Evans and Jones. He afterwards served in the "Palmetto Sharpshooters," attached from time to time to Generals Anderson's, Jenkins' and Bratton's Brigades, and to General Longstreet's, Pickett's, Hood's and Fields' Divisions. He subsequently served in General Longstreet's Corps. The letters were written by Lieut. Richard Lewis, to his mother, at various times during the war, and are printed "just as they were written there and then," and illustrate the facts and inspirations of Camp Life, Marches, &c., as created in the then youthful mind of the writer.
Jake Warren is a profoundly gifted, 11-year-old misfit who lives outside the Adirondack Park in Malone, New York. In the summer of 1963, after the sudden death of his father, Jake's mother sends him to camp in the heart of the Adirondack Park where he befriends three campers who are misfits in their own homes and schools as well. Penny Dausch, the 11-year-old daughter of an Adirondack Park Ranger and granddaughter of an Adirondack Guide, excels in art and history and has recently been inspired by Rachel Carson's 1962 publication, Silent Spring, to save the environment for future generations while Ty Williams, the 11-year-old son of SUNY at Albany English professors, is gifted in English and speaks two other languages. Add 9-year-old Quinn Miller, who is already studying calculus and plays violin in local, regional and national competitions, and you have a quartet caught between childhood (age-wise) and adulthood (intellect-wise) that will make the typical summer camp experience anything but typical.
