So Brilliant was William Penn's American Legacy that Thomas Jefferson, writer of the Declaration of Independence, called him, ""the greatest lawgiver the world has produced."" And brilliant he was...not only because Penn's Charter of Privileges provided the framework for the United States Government but also because of the underlying freedom it provided all people. In fact, our twenty-eighth president, Woodrow Wilson, was so convinced of William Penn's contributions to America's foundation that he said, ""America did not come out of New England.""

Learn how to couple inspired design with flawless execution to create your own striking, original furniture. In his latest book, The Artisan Furnituremaker, long-time furnituremaker Darrell Peart--author of Greene & Greene: Design Elements for the Workshop and In the Greene & Greene Style--brings all his experience to bear in providing a masterclass on the three fundamental requirements for success in the field of custom furniture design: creativity, design, and workmanship. The book offers a detailed examination of the design and production methods of the Greene brothers, legendary furnituremakers and architects of the Arts and Crafts Movement, and illuminates how the brothers achieved such brilliance in their designs, and how they collaborated so successfully with the craftsmen who brought their designs to life. The Artisan Furnituremaker goes on to show how you can combine all three elements-- creativity, design, and workmanship--in your own workshop and produce high quality, distinctively original pieces of your own. Peart covers how creativity is essential for fulfilling the desires of your customers, and how superb design translates creativity into an implementable schematic.Peart goes on to show that in order to create art that is infused with emotion and original in nature, one has to have intuition and inspiration. The book demonstrates this by exploring methods the author has used during his long career to forge a very successful custom furniture business that has produced art of lasting value.Peart draws upon William Varnum's book, Industrial Arts Design. However, he stresses that this is just a starting point, and that equations and rules cannot create original art. For that, intellect, intuition, and inspiration are required, all of which are discussed in relation to art and craft. From there Peart moves on to demonstrate how you can enhance your own design and craftsmanship abilities by a process he calls "Design DNA." Design DNA is a framework for asking the right questions, a procedure he examines at length. The Artisan Furnituremaker is the ultimate resource for creators looking to take their craft to the next level and produce striking, original work.

You simply say, "Oh, no, this can't be cancer " You talk to God like never before. And you realize it is time to get in touch with your inner self to learn who you really are. You ask questions like: "How will I come out of this, mentally and spiritually?" "Will I make it?" "Will my family make it? Have I prepared them for such a bumpy road?" Through it all, you learn to lean on God like never before, as well as on your praying friends. When treatment is over and good reports start coming in, you realize that you are a changed person. You have a new attitude about yourself; you realize you have a caring concern for others going through a similar trial. My desire is to reach out to those hurting "others", to give them hope and brighten their days. Perhaps, ultimately, even to encourage them in their personal relationship with God. Darrell Parrish is the only child of Dr. Fuchsia Pickett, renowned Bible teacher and author. Darrell was born and raised in Eden, North Carolina. He married and raised four children. He excelled as a self-taught businessman, receiving promotions from his first job selling ladies' shoes at age thirteen, to 20 years as general manager of sales and operations for the Trucking Industry. In 1982, he relocated to the Dallas area to become Business Administrator for his mother's church, which included a Bible College and other outreaches. In 1989, Darrell remarried and became the owner of the Queen of Hearts Costume and Magic Shop in Plano, Texas, which has enjoyed great success since 1982. Darrell's story is about a man who achieved much success, while enduring many physical problems throughout his life. Winning his battle with cancer inspired him to share his journey in the hope that he can encourage others.
In this fascinating testimony, author Darrell Sroufe recounts growing up in a home wracked by mental illness; his teen years lost in sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll; and nearly going insane after a bad drug trip. Coming to Christ only a few hours before committing himself to a mental hospital, he soon found full deliverance. Then God opened doors for him to become a counselor, therapist and case manager in several psychiatric institutions. Witnessing the anti-Christian charlatanism of psychiatry while knowing the delivering power of The Great Physician first-hand, he recommended trust in Jesus Christ rather than psychiatrists to patients with mental problems. This quickly resulted in an ongoing conflict with the psychiatric industry. In off-hours evangelistic ministry he did the same, recognizing that insanity is not relegated only to those locked inside psychiatric wards, but runs amuck everywhere in sin-crazed society. Unmasking modern psychiatry, Loony Bin Blues reveals the practice to be a multi-billion dollar business more interested in money than remedying mental illness. Its spurious history, philosophies and ideologies are brought to light, exposing its occult origins and illegitimate pseudo-science challenges to Biblical authority in matters pertaining to the human soul. If you believe that mental illness is simply the result of diseases and chemical imbalances of the brain, or if you don't believe in spiritual realities, then you are in for a real surprise. Loony Bin Blues moves in and out of earthly, heavenly and hellish realms unveiling the truth about psychiatry, insanity and emissaries of light and darkness who battle for the souls of us all. You can't make this stuff up. - S.T. Caballero, Georgia Medical Care Foundation of Atlanta A Christian testimony willing to tell the warts-and-all truth. - April Riggins, Life Impact International
Apocalypse, maybe? No one wants to be the middle child of history. Thinking about surviving the apocalypse feels significant, like we're part of the eternal cosmos, instead of just another organism passing along an infinite timeline. We all want to experience something remarkable in our lifetimes...even if that something results in our own demise. The End is at Hand is a collection of short essays about how people throughout history believe the world could end. The book explores how it has all ended before, when we mistakenly thought it would end again, and the many ways it could end in the future. Though organized chronologically, beginning with prehistoric extinctions and extending in the distant future when the universe may (or may not) collapse. Nothing lasts forever, including the worlds we inhabit - human society, our planet, or the entire universe. The End is at Hand entertains as much as it informs, striking a balance of wry humor with scientifically backed research. Author Darrell Perkins complements these cataclysmic tales with finely crafted linocut illustrations that beautifully evoke impending doom.Darrell Perkins is a printmaker, illustrator, and educator from Providence, Rhode Island, USA. He earned an MFA in illustration from Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland. His work has been exhibited and published throughout the US, Europe, and the Middle East over the past ten years. Perkins is currently a professor of Visual Communication at American University in Dubai.
