If You Want to Go Far, Go Together- African proverb I've been asked many times, why have I done this podcast series. Why have I written Break Through to Yes: Unlocking the Possible within a Culture of Collaboration? Why is collaboration so important? I'll tell you why. We need it. I need it. Our future needs it. Business is forced into silos and must give up to an open and agile system that better suits today's world and our shared future. We must create shared value. We must think critically. The costs of command and control leadership are getting higher. During my 42-year career in business, I've held titles including director, president, and chief operating officer. I have seen many and repeated failures, sometimes with the cost of billions. These failures affect organizations and their capital projects and operations. When a company starts making mistakes, tries to force its agenda on others, or is in conflict with its own stakeholders, the consequences are significant. People revolt and profit margins are destroyed. Projects get delayed in regulatory and community review for extended lengths of time. Employees simply don't give their best because they do not trust the systems they work in especially when they have little influence in the processes or programs in which they are involved. The cost to organizations can be both internal and external disengagement, rejection by regulatory bodies and governments, rejection by impacted communities, and damage to the environment. Add to that a wide range of negative human impacts including everything from depression, conflict, suicide, marital breakdown and career paralysis to the loss of intelligence and vision of the brightest people in your business, simply because they mentally and spiritually check out when they come to work. All this means lost productivity, lost opportunities to grow and prosper, and distracted leaders and workers who no longer feel able to do good work. Leaders and organizations, however, can gain a strategic advantage by avoiding all this energy and revenue-zapping negativity simply by working together to build a culture of collaboration.

David B. Savage's Break Through To Yes provides the key for real success-- collaboration --Marshall Goldsmith, Thinkers 50 #1 Leadership Thinker in the World and Top 5 Management Thinker 2015.KIRKUS REVIEW Break Through To Yes: Unlocking the Possible within a Culture of Collaboration A book thoroughly examines the power of successful collaborations. Canadian collaboration expert Savage (a contributor to Ready, Aim, Excel, 2012) offers a work that couldn't be more timely. While it addresses organizational collaboration, this book could be interpreted more broadly as a treatise on building a cooperative culture within families, groups, businesses, and government. In a collection of concise chapters, Savage leads the reader through a discussion of the meaning and value of collaboration. The author supplements his own experiences over more than four decades with extensive quotes from experts and results from surveys that he conducted; in effect, he collaborated far and wide to garner input for this volume. Part One lays the groundwork by first exploring reasons for collaboration, why it fails, and what is required for effective collaboration. Part Two explores "The Discipline of Collaboration," addressing such issues as why collaboration is misunderstood, how to involve stakeholders, and why the practice demands "opening the mind...opening the heart...and opening the will." This section also delivers a useful assessment tool to determine the state of an organization's "collaborative ecosystem." In Part Three, Savage provides a comprehensive road map via 10 specific steps for implementing organizational collaboration. Beginning with "Step 1: Set Intention and Declare Your Purpose," and concluding with "Step 10: Make It So: Positively Change the Energy and the Future Together," the book systematically details each step and then summarizes to facilitate implementation. Part Four ("Break Through") offers a discussion of circles and teams and explains the rise of the "Chief Collaboration Officer" as a senior position, which, Savage writes, is "the greatest advance in organizational productivity in the knowledge economy." This engaging volume's Appendices contain additional worthy information, including quotes from experts (from Bryce Medd/Wealthy Tortoise Financial, British Columbia: "In the financial services realm, if the intention is to create one plan, a roadmap for a client, then only by collaboration can all of the various disciplines come together for the best interest of the client"). The Appendices also include an itemized list of "roadblocks to collaboration," and vital lessons the author has learned from some less-than-successful collaborative engagement startups. Highly readable, informative, and well-organized, this insightful work acts as a short-form textbook on the best practices in collaboration. A valuable volume for the senior leader of any group, business, or organization who wants to build a collaborative culture.A book on Collaborative Leadership must be collaborative. That is why Savage includes the wisdom of over 100 advisors from around the world in Break Through To Yes.Part One: PART ONE: Why I Believe in the Urgency of CollaborationPART TWO: The Discipline of CollaborationPART THREE: The 10 Essential Steps to CollaborationPART FOUR: Break ThroughAppendix A: Wisdom from My Advisers on Why CollaborateAppendix B: Roadblocks to CollaborationAppendix C: Wisdom From My AdvisorsAppendix D: Collaboration, The Rainforest, and Disruptive Technology

In May 1940, a group of Auckland yachtsmen and Royal Navy volunteers left for the war. Leonard Hill, a young M?ori sailor, and his friends arrived in Singapore under siege. They manned fast motor launches, raiding and rescuing Allies from behind enemy lines. On 13 February 1942, the eve of the fall of Singapore, they took two Fairmiles, ML310 and ML311, to evacuate members of the Allied High Command and survivors of sinking vessels. Hunted down by the Japanese, most of the almost one hundred men perished. Only three succeeded: Leonard Hill, Herbert ‘Johnny’ Bull and Andrew Brough. This is the story of how they evaded the Japanese and survived.

The interpretation of quantum mechanics has been in dispute for nearly a century with no sign of a resolution. Using a careful examination of the relationship between the final form of classical particle mechanics (the Hamilton-Jacobi Equation) and Schrödinger's mechanics, this book presents a coherent way of addressing the problems and paradoxes that emerge through conventional interpretations.Schrödinger's Mechanics critiques the popular way of giving physical interpretation to the various terms in perturbation theory and other technologies and places an emphasis on development of the theory and not on an axiomatic approach. When this interpretation is made, the extension of Schrödinger's mechanics in relation to other areas, including spin, relativity and fields, is investigated and new conclusions are reached.
Reading the Psalms with Jesus and the Apostles: The Understanding of the Psalms in Luke-Acts
Previous discussions of the Old Testament in Luke-Acts have focused on Luke's use of the Old Testament, i.e., how the Old Testament serves Luke's purpose in writing. This book considers how Luke understands the Old Testament, i.e., how Luke sees himself as faithful to Scripture. Therefore, this book focuses first on Luke's interpretation of the Psalms before turning to Luke's application of the Psalms, and in the process sheds new light on Psalms studies, Lukan studies, and studies of the New Testament use of the Old Testament. Luke's interpretation is studied in comparison to four different approaches to the Psalter: a historical reading, a cult-functional reading, a predictive reading, and a canonical reading, showing how Luke incorporates elements of each of these interpretive methods. The final chapter turns to the more typical questions of the function and the theological contribution of the psalm references in Luke-Acts.

Silhouettes of Scripture

The contextual approach and form criticism are two well-established methodologies in Biblical Studies, but the natural affinities between the two have historically gone under-appreciated. Yet the substantial reconsideration of classic tenets of form-criticism that has transpired in recent memory has further separated these two like-minded methods. Through a series of case studies that carefully consider certain Old Testament texts contextually, Silhouettes of Scripture: Considering the Contextual Approach with Form-criticism considers important methodological critiques and fuse elements of both methods in order to not only re-focus natural affinities but also more precisely define how contextual studies could proceed. Initiated by a literary trigger, Schreiner and Holland’s method navigates between what has been called "parallel-o-mania" and "parallel-anonia" to consider a range of similarities and differences in terms of broad and narrow convergences. The result is a work that not only looks upon well-known parallels with fresh eyes but also seeks to establish new trajectories.

James Innes Watson continues to make available stories from the manuscripts that he inherited from his great-great-grandfather Dr. John H. Watson. These are stories, that for whatever reason, Watson did not publish during his life. This collection features stories that are all mentioned in previously published cases by Conan Doyle, but all that was known about them was their somewhat enigmatic titles. Here are the cases of the Tide-waiter, the Delicate Affair of the Reigning Family of Holland, the Manor House, the Grice Patersons in the Island of Uffa, the Abbas Parva Tragedy, and the Arnsworth Castle Business. They see Holmes and Watson travel to the Channel Islands, to Amsterdam and Alsace-Lorraine, and then in England to the fen country of Suffolk and the Home Counties.
