New Frontiers in the Internationalization of Businesses: Empirical Evidence from Indigenous Businesses in Canada highlights the impact of international expansion as a potential pathway to address the challenges of poverty and vulnerability, and provide relevant new knowledge on the factors that support successful international expansion of Indigenous businesses. This book examines how entrepreneur’s identity and cultural values, network ties, motivations, and resources and capabilities facilitate or hinder the internationalization of Indigenous businesses. This book also investigates the economic and non-economic outcomes of internationalization. Most interestingly, this book answers the question of what is so new about the internationalization of Indigenous businesses by comparing this context to mainstream (non-Indigenous) businesses. The book also delves in the phenomena related to home-based businesses, service industries, and specific ethnic groups. This book has implications for vulnerable populations, especially those more than 370 million indigenous people spread across 70 countries worldwide.Studying those Indigenous businesses that decide to pursue international opportunities and how they become successful in international markets is a timely and novel area of research. Understanding this context contributes to current debates in international business.

Production processes and engineered systems use continuous and discrete variables, as well as the combination of continuous and sequential operations. This volume covers both aspects, thus providing knowledge in continuous and discrete control, logic control, and hybrid control systems. It is a compilation of selected control strategies to automate processes and systems with a practical approach to ease their design, analysis and implementation. The selection of the control schemes is based on the capability to provide desired dynamical response or real time performance. Practicality is required for achieving faster development times of automation projects or system prototypes by comprehensive presentation and direct application of methodologies and techniques for efficient and structured programming of control algorithms. Considered methodologies include model-based design, hardware in the loop simulations and structured programming. Fundamental signals and systems concepts are explained. Systems and controllers are analyzed using discrete-time equations, which ease their implementation in most programmable platforms without requiring sophisticated software. PID based control, internal model control and model reference control are viewed as powerful schemes in terms of performance and suitability for mechatronics systems because of the use of the model in their architecture as a key control element. Finite state machines are presented to solve sequential requirements of direct and supervisory control of many processes and machines. Cyberphysical systems are an industrial technology and an education trend, distinguished by visual and dynamic models or digital twins of the physical systems. The discussed analysis, design and implementation practices are integrated and applied in the context of cyberphysical systems. This book aims to provide multidisciplinary support to engineers and practitioners in the design of control systems, and is a valuable tool for automation teaching and self-learning.

This book is a comprehensive analysis of the literary oeuvre of Wayde Compton, examining the interplay between modes of literary production, urban commemoration, the formation of Black racial identity on the margins of the diaspora, and coalitions of solidarity with other communities in Vancouver.Stemming from an interdisciplinary perspective that blends Spatial Literary Studies, Hip hop epistemology, and the transmodern paradigm, this book presents a dynamic model of Black identity formation and belonging, resulting from the remix of Afro-diasporic and transcultural elements and the political commemoration of local Black spaces in an often-understudied node of the Black diaspora. This book also explores Compton’s contribution to recent academic debates on the interaction between the commemoration of Black spaces and the right to the city, as well as the engagement with Indigenous calls for the decolonisation of their ancestral lands. The analysis of Compton’s work allows for the deconstruction of the binaries African/Canadian, Indigenous/settler, Hogan’s Alley/Vancouver and exposes the co-constitutive character of these elements.
Festival Culture in the World of the Spanish Habsburgs

Festival Culture in the World of the Spanish Habsburgs

In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in Early Modern Festivals. These spectacles articulated the self-image of ruling elites and played out the tensions of the diverse social strata. Responding to the growing academic interest in festivals this volume focuses on the early modern Iberian world, in particular the spectacles staged by and for the Spanish Habsburgs. The study of early modern Iberian festival culture in Europe and the wider world is surprisingly limited compared to the published works devoted to other kingdoms at the time. There is a clear need for scholarly publications to examine festivals as a vehicle for the presence of Spanish culture beyond territorial boundaries. The present books responds to this shortcoming. Festivals and ceremonials played a major role in the Spanish world; through them local identities as well as a common Spanish culture made their presence manifest within and beyond the peninsula through ephemeral displays, music and print. Local communities often conflated their symbols of identity with religious images and representations of the Spanish monarchy. The festivals (fiestas in Spanish) materialized the presence of the Spanish diaspora in other European realms. Royal funerals and proclamations served to establish kingly presence in distant and not so distant lands. The socio-political, religious and cultural nuances that were an intrinsic part of the territories of the empire were magnified and celebrated in the Spanish festivals in Europe, Iberia and overseas viceroyalties. Following a foreword and an introduction the remaining 12 chapters are divided up into four sections. The first explores Habsburg Visual culture at court and its relationship with the creation of a language of triumph and the use of tapestries in festivals. The second part examines triumphal entries in Madrid, Lisbon, Cremona, Milan, Pavia and the New World; the third deals with the relationship between religion and the empire through the examination of royal funerals, hagiography and calendric celebrations. The fourth part of the book explores cultural, artistic and musical exchange in Naples and Rome. Taken together these essays contribute further to our growing appreciation of the importance of early-modern festival culture in general, and their significance in the world of the Spanish Habsburgs in particular.

Performing Brains on Screen deals with film enactments and representations of the belief that human beings are essentially their brains, a belief that embodies one of the most influential modern ways of understanding the human. Films have performed brains in two chief ways: by turning physical brains into protagonists, as in the brain movies of the 1950s, which show terrestrial or extra-terrestrial disembodied brains carrying out their evil intentions; or by giving brains that remain unseen inside someone’s head an explicitly major role, as in brain transplantation films or their successors since the 1980s, in which brain contents are transferred and manipulated by means of information technology. Through an analysis of filmic genres and particular movies, Performing Brains on Screen documents this neglected filmic universe, and demonstrates how the cinema has functioned as a cultural space where a core notion of the contemporary world has been rehearsed and problematized.
A Psychoanalysis Influenced by Dissidence, Decoloniality, and Feminism
A Psychoanalysis Influenced by Dissidence, Decoloniality, and Feminism analyzes the intersection of psychoanalysis with feminisms, decolonial theories, philosophy and queer theory. Fernando Barrios asks key questions such as: Is psychoanalysis a Eurocentric invention based on a colonial logos, and is there room for anything else? What can psychoanalysis say about the racialization of bodies, poverty, and class? What can it say not only about the subjective effects of systems of oppression, but also about the very production of subjectivity within them? Barrios considers texts and authors who rarely meet in dialogue - Indigenous, Chicano, and border feminisms, Jean Genet and authors of the antisocial turn in the queer field, Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan in tension with Monique Wittig and Jack Halberstam, Paul B. Preciado and Isabelle Stengers, Donna Haraway and Bruno Latour, the ontological turn and the affective turn - generating a field of productive tension. Through these cross-readings, the book examines the effects of a psychoanalysis that allows itself to be affected by contemporary discourses and practices in a situated manner. A Psychoanalysis Influenced by Dissidence, Decoloniality, and Feminism will be of great interest to psychoanalysts in practice and in training, and to academics and scholars of psychoanalytic and Lacanian studies, feminisms, queer theory, critical theory and decolonial theories.

Jesus is alive. He has not changed. Do we truly believe this good news? Over 2,000 years have passed since Jesus Christ walked the earth preaching the gospel of the Kingdom with signs and wonders: healing the sick, opening the eyes of the blind, turning water into wine. What if the modern church performed the post-Pentecostal miracles of the first apostles? What if we saw the gospel preached, not with eloquent words or salesman persuasion, but with power? Since the time of the early church, believers have cried out for revival, an awakening to the truth of the gospel throughout the world. What would it truly look like to see your city, your nation, or even your president confess that Jesus Christ is Lord? Stir your faith with the true story of the transformation that took place in Bolivia when 19-year-old Julio C sar Ruibal surrendered his life in humble obedience to the Holy Spirit and led hundreds of thousands more to do the same. Travel to the wild jungles of the Andes mountains to experience the eyewitness testimony of Fernando Villalobos, a man who experienced a spiritual revival that captured the hearts of his entire nation through one simple message: Jesus is alive. He loves you, and He is coming back very soon. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Hebrews 13:8Published by Burkhart Books (www.BurkhartBooks.com)
