The Homoerotics of Early Modern Drama

The Homoerotics of Early Modern Drama

Mario DiGangi

Cambridge University Press
1997
pokkari
This book is the first comprehensive account of homoeroticism in Renaissance drama. Mario DiGangi analyses the relation between homoeroticism and social power in a wide range of literary and historical texts from the 1580s to the 1620s, drawing on the insights of materialist, feminist and queer theory. Each chapter focuses on the homoerotics of a major dramatic genre (Ovidian comedy, satiric comedy, tragedy and tragicomedy) and studies the ideologies and institutions it characteristically explores. DiGangi examines distinctions between orderly and disorderly forms of homoerotic practice in both canonical and unfamiliar texts. In these readings, the various proliferating forms of homoeroticism are indentified in relation to sodomy, against which there were cultural and legal prohibitions in the period. DiGangi's study illuminates, through a diverse range of plays, the centrality of homoerotic practices to household, court and city life in early modern England.
Knowledge, Scale and Transactions in the Theory of the Firm

Knowledge, Scale and Transactions in the Theory of the Firm

Mario Morroni

Cambridge University Press
2006
sidottu
Firms in market economies vary enormously in size, nature and competitiveness. In this important contribution to the literature on the theory of the firm, Mario Morroni provides a fresh analytical framework which improves our understanding of the causes of this diversity in organisational design and performance. The relations between internal and external basic conditions, decision-making mechanisms and organisational co-ordination are addressed, as are the circumstances in which capabilities, transactions and scale-scope considerations interact. With the emergence of the knowledge-based economy and the increasing pressure of global competition, the development of capabilities is acquiring ever greater importance in boosting competitiveness. Morroni shows that long-term relational agreements enhance learning processes and offer powerful tools for improving competitiveness in a context of conflicting interests, incomplete knowledge and uncertainty.

There are many lonely leaders, marked by the ministry harshness, but especially by the inability to share their joys and sorrows with people around them.Leaders need time alone with God, but they also need good communication with their families and colleagues, with the congregation and other pastors and with their mentors. When communication bridges are broken, there are isolation, depression, guilt, frustration, discouragement and loneliness.

This work proposes a theological investigation of the community of the Church as outlined by liberation theology and a possible conversation with liberation from suffering in Tibetan Buddhism. What unites both is the human process of sublimation for others, whereby liberation theologians as well as enlightened lamas give the best of themselves for the liberation of others. At this stage of discussions between inclusivists and exclusivists this work proposes that dialogue with world religions and therefore with Buddhism is not about finding possible dogmatic similarities but a common place, a common purpose through a common humanity.
