Santa rides again! This highly animated Santa carving depicts the jolly old elf getting more than he bargained for on an off-season fishing expedition. David Sabol demonstrates his traditional wood carving techniques, taking the reader through each step from wood blank to finished carving with clear, step-by-step instructions and color illustrations. The finished carving is brought to life with color staining techniques and given a hint of age with antiquing methods David describes in detail. Patterns are provided for six classic Santas in a variety of poses and for the venerable Mrs. Claus as well. A color gallery shows each of the finished patterns to fire the imagination of every carver. Carvers with basic skills will enjoy the challenges, and advanced carvers will be delighted by the details presented in the projects in this book.
From Hell to Hollywood: The Incredible Journey of AP Photographer Nick UT
This book of Nick Ut's pictures and Hal Buell's wonderfully spare prose about Nick's life is so much more than a long-deserved tribute to Ut. It is a recognition of the courage, bravery and professionalism of all the photographers whose work in Vietnam helped us to understand the awful cost of war. -- Bob Schieffer, CBS News"From Hell to Hollywood" is the story of two journeys. One journey is the lifelong adventure of AP photographer Nick Ut, a teenager from Vietnam's Mekong Delta whose camera took him worldwide from the cruel reality of Asian battlefields to the dazzling glitz of La La Land. The second is about his Pulitzer prize-winning photograph, which came to be known as the "Napalm Girl photo," an international icon representing innocents caught in the crossfire of war's horror.Ut and his photograph traveled together, sometimes apart, often intersecting with Kim Phuc, the "girl in the picture" and the focal point of his famous image. Since the day it was taken, the dynamic between photographer and subject grew into a relationship of genuine friendship. And in 2015, when Ms. Phuc had undergone a groundbreaking skin treatment to address the scars from her wounds of June 8, 1972, "Uncle Nick" (as she fondly refers to him) was there to capture the moment. After the Vietnam War, Ut eventually made his way to the streets of Hollywood and found himself photographing a new cast of characters, including such personalities as Marlon Brando, Paris Hilton, Jane Fonda, Bette Davis and many more. Never one to shy away from injecting himself into challenging or even dangerous events, Ut also photographed the LA riots and many of the major wildfires that devastated the California landscape.Featuring a Foreword by legendary broadcaster Bob Schieffer and an Afterword by Pulitzer prize-winning war correspondent Peter Arnett, "From Hell to Hollywood" is a compelling portrait of the human spirit and the desire of a photojournalist to immortalize the world around us one frame at a time.

Detention is bad enough without the Apocalypse Eleanor is smart, informed, responsible and well read. She also just woke up to find herself trapped, her school in rubble, and her life dependent on a troupe of nitwits. With no one coming to save her, possibly the last bastion of intelligent life on earth, and monsters lurking in every shadow; if this isn't the end of the world, it sure feels like it.

When Jerry Miller and the Grave Robbers backed out of their contract to play at the Annual CYO Halloween Dance, Tommy and Mike of the CYO Committee knew they were in a jam, and turned to D.J. Nick Serrano, a local disc jockey, who dreamed of following in the footsteps of world-famous radio dj's Wolfman Jack and Cousin Brucie. They were delighted when D.J. Nick agreed to spin records at their annual gathering. But, on the night of the dance, delight soon turned to horror, when the students of the area high schools, dressed in weird costumes, came together, expecting to mingle and dance and have fun. Instead, they discovered the meaning of transmogrification and the horror that followed.
