Compression and Security of Biometric Images

Compression and Security of Biometric Images

Abhilash K S; Shijin Kumar P S

LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
2020
pokkari
In present scenario biometric systems are widely used in various applications, but the recent biometric technology faces security issues like stored biometric template attack, where the original data is tampered such that it cannot be retrieved and the storage space issues like requirement of large storage space for biometric data of large population. To avoid such security and compression issues a novel method is proposed. The proposed Peppy Wavelet Watermarking Algorithm (PWWA) is based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) watermarking techniques which combines the virtues of CSPRNG-2 and GDA to provide efficient watermarking. The watermark image is recovered by reverse embedding procedure utilizing the proposed Peppy Wavelet Watermark Extraction Algorithm (PWWEA). To verify the performance, various types of noises are added to the embedded image and recovery operation is performed. The performance parameters are then evaluated for comparison.

An Introduction to Biological Control

An Introduction to Biological Control

A.P. Gutierrez; P.S. Messenger; R. van den Bosch

Kluwer Academic/Plenum Publishers
1982
sidottu
This volume is a revision of Biological Control by R. van den Bosch and P. S. Messenger, originally published by Intext Publishers. In the revision, I have attempted to keep the original theme, and to update it with current research findings and new chapters or sections on insect pathology, microbial control of weeds and plant pathogens, population dynamics, integrated pest management, and economics. The book was written as an undergraduate text, and not as a complete review of the subject area. Various more comprehen sive volumes have been written to serve as handbooks for the experts. This book is designed to provide a concise overview of the complex and valuable field of biological control and to show the relationships to the developing concepts of integrated pest management. Population regulation of pests by natural enemies is the major theme of the book, but other biological methods of pest control are also discussed. The chapter on population dynamics assumes a precalculus-levelknowledge of mathematics. Author names of species are listed only once in the text, but all are listed in the Appendix. Any errors or omissions in this volume are my sole responsibility. A. P. Gutierrez Professor of Entomology Division of Biological Control University of California, Berkeley vii Acknowledgments Very special thanks must be given to my colleagues, Professors C. B. Huffaker and L. E. Caltagirone, for the very thorough review they provided and for the many positive suggestions they gave. Dr.

Chromium -VI Reagents: Synthetic Applications

Chromium -VI Reagents: Synthetic Applications

Chromic acid and chromium oxide are the two versatile Cr(VI) oxidants known to organic chemists for decades. The introduction of the Core's reagent , viz: pyridinium chlorochromate, in 1975 followed by the publications on several Cr(VI) oxidizing agents containing the -onium chromates and halochromates in the last three decades have very much changed the chemistry of oxidations with Chromium VI. Several of these new reagents have been shown to be mild so that they can be handled easily and the reacton products may also be controlled. Some of them are highly selective oxidants for positions like allylic hydroxylic group, etc., and some other are highly regioselective. The information on more than 36 such reagents reported in various internationally reputed journals spanning about 280 references have been collected and provided in this book in such a manner that it will be very useful for professionals, researchers, teachers and graduate students working in organic synthesis.
Dark Sky, Dark Matter

Dark Sky, Dark Matter

J.M Overduin; P.S Wesson

Institute of Physics Publishing
2002
sidottu
Olbers' paradox states that given the Universe is unbounded, governed by the standard laws of physics, and populated by light sources, the night sky should be ablaze with light. Obviously this is not so. However, the paradox does not lie in nature but in our understanding of physics. A Universe with a finite age, such as follows from big-bang theory, necessarily has galaxies of finite age. This means we can only see some of the galaxies in the Universe, which is the main reason why the night sky is dark. Just how dark can be calculated using the astrophysics of galaxies and stars and the dynamics of relativistic cosmology. We know from the dynamics of individual galaxies and clusters of galaxies that the majority of matter that exerts gravitational forces is not detectable by conventional telescopes. This dark matter could have many forms, and candidates include various types of elementary particles as well as vacuum fluctuations, black holes, and others. Most of these candidates are unstable to decay and produce photons. So dark matter does not only affect the dynamics of the Universe, but the intensity of intergalactic radiation as well. Conversely, we can use observations of background radiation to constrain the nature and density of dark matter. By comparing observational data with cosmological theory based on general relativity and particle physics, Dark Sky, Dark Matter reviews our present understanding of the universe and the astrophysics of the night sky and dark matter.
HIV and AIDS:

HIV and AIDS:

S. Kartikeyan; R.N. Bharmal; R.P. Tiwari; P.S. Bisen

Springer-Verlag New York Inc.
2007
sidottu
In June 1981, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported the first evidence of a new disease that would later become known as Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). HIV and AIDS: Basic Elements and Priorities is a concise collection of all aspects of this disease, and is a source of readily available knowledge. All currently advocated preventive measures such as health education, condom use, safer sex practices, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections have been incorporated. The key elements of this volume are: - up-to-date information on multiple dimensions of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, - discusses new anti–retroviral therapy / drugs, new drugs under clinical trials and preventive HIV vaccine, - covers current ethical, legal and social issues related to HIV/AIDS, - evaluates general public awareness about HIV/AIDS, - includes a global perspective and information about HIV/AIDS. This volume is an excellent reference for science graduates and post graduates, medical students, research scholars and scientists across the world. This book is recommended by the World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Region Office (WHO-EMRO) as a basic resource for medical faculty libraries.
