A richly illustrated and personal presentation of the lives and careers of twelve Latin American artists in Minnesota The art created by Latin Americans in Minnesota is as diverse as the homelands of these artists--an array of sculpture, paintings, photography, ceramics, films, murals, installations, and performance made by artists originally from Mexico, Cuba, Chile, Venezuela, and Tejana and Chicano cultures. Exploring crucial themes of immigration, identity, and the preservation of traditions in diaspora, the twelve artists featured in this book share their stories and experiences candidly in interviews conducted by other Latino leaders and activists from Minnesota. These casual conversations reveal a unique and intimate perspective of this vibrant arts community. From the collectives that have united some of these artists in collaboration, to dynamic responses to social injustice and a vital presence in galleries, museums, and universities throughout the state, this volume shows how Latin American art is significant and vigorously active in Minnesota--with much more creativity still to come.Artists: Cecilia Cornejo Sotelo, Guillermo Cuellar, Martha Gabriela Driessen, Selma Fern ndez Richter, Luis Fitch, Alondra Marisol Garza, Carmen Guti rrez-Bolger, Gustavo Lira Garc a, Dougie Padilla, Alonso Sierralta, Maria Cristina Tavera, Xavier Tavera.Interviewers: Ta-coumba T. Awards 2021 IAN Book of the Year Awards, Finalist, First Non-Fiction 2021 IAN Book of the Year Awards, Finalist, Non-Fiction: Religion/Christian Some scholars have called the Gospel of Thomas "the fifth gospel," joining the four canonical books of the New Testament-Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Some have even suggested that a new and fresh perspective on the teachings of Jesus can be observed in its extraordinary aphorisms, dialogues, and parables. This ancient collection of Jesus sayings, half of which were previously unknown, opens up a whole new area of research for Biblical scholars. And yet, the Gospel of Thomas was rejected by the early Christian Church, banished to oblivion, and eventually lost to memory. Nevertheless, despite this opposition, it survived its many years of utter exclusion. Since its remarkable 1945 discovery in a buried jar in Egypt, it has been the object of intense scrutiny in classrooms, churches, and in many scholarly works. William G. Duffy's book is the first of its kind to thoroughly and systematically examine this gospel's "hidden" sayings in the light of non-dualism, the timeless worldview and philosophy of oneness. What is particularly unique about Duffy's work is the meticulous literary analysis he brings to this study. In his investigation of each saying, he has discovered phrase patterns and code words that other commentators have seemingly missed. By pointing out the non-dual nature of the text, and with a sharp eye for linguistic clues, Duffy convincingly demonstrates that significant insights, as well as great depth and power, can be discovered in this "lost" but now found Gospel of Thomas. Consequently, readers will not only find this book to be intellectually groundbreaking but also spiritually compelling.
Decolonizing African Agriculture

Decolonizing African Agriculture

William G. Moseley

AGENDA PUBLISHING
2024
nidottu
Why have so many approaches to farming and food policy failed in Sub-Saharan Africa? Because, argues William Moseley in this compelling analysis, of the shortcomings of a prevailing western, colonial agricultural science that is infused with power and politics. To tackle food security successfully, the book argues, we need a non-colonial, indigenous agronomy that creates the social innovation needed to support the livelihoods of small-scale farmers. The book is organized in four sections: Part 1 provides a broad conceptual introduction emphasizing political agronomy, political ecology and agroecology. Part 2 evaluates past food security and agricultural development experiences in four countries where Moseley has undertaken extensive field research over several decades: Mali, Burkina Faso, South Africa and Botswana. Part 3 examines successful efforts in each of these countries and outlines future directions that emphasize the application of ecological principles to agricultural systems. In Part 4, Moseley advocates building more resilient food systems and a different kind of development that supports agroecology, vibrant rurality and networks of smaller cities. Achieving this transformation will require institutional reform at the global level, of those multilateral and bilateral agencies involved with farming and food policy. Written for an academic and policy readership, as well those interested in international food security, the book is suitable for courses on food politics, agroecology and sustainable development.
Sermons to the Natural Man

William G T Shedd

pokkari
In twenty sermons, William G. T. Shedd discusses topics of spiritual life and Christian theology; God and His infinite knowledge of the world and of mankind, and the role of sin. A great compendium of Shedd's finest preaching, this book was published in an attempt to express the divine truth of God. Unabashed about the lecture's focus on sin and the almighty power of the Lord, the words here attempt to explain the core truths of the Bible. Christ's life and purpose, the events and circumstances surrounding His life, and the ineffable tenets which all believers must heed - these topics stand at the core of what W. G. T. Shedd wishes to express. The author is wary of attaining a balance in these writings, musing that it is all too easy for a learned man of God to slip too greatly toward severity. Another peril is omitting crucial analyses, or delving insufficiently into topics: from the outset, Shedd makes clear that he wishes to give readers his complete understanding of sin in Christian theology, and of the religious attributes of Christianity, with authenticity. As one of Massachusetts' most lauded and accomplished Biblical theologians, William Shedd spent most of his life in the study of God. Throughout his career he published essays and sermons; voracious in his pursuit of understanding, he would also branch out into English literature, attaining a professorship in that subject.

Designing Electronic Systems for EMC

Designing Electronic Systems for EMC

William G. Duff

SciTech Publishing Inc

This handbook outlines the factors that must be considered in designing circuits, equipment, and systems for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). It teaches circuit and system designers practical approaches to thwart the ever present culprit of electromagnetic interference (EMI). By emphasizing the fundamentals, it provides information that will help readers understand the rationale that forms the basis for many of the EMC practices and procedures. There is much information about these topics available in disparate forms (journal articles, symposia proceedings, etc.) but this book brings the critical knowledge into a single source for battling EMI. The goal of all device and system designs that must function in an electromagnetic environment (i.e. radio, TV, radar, navigation, and communications) is to operate without adversely affecting other electronic equipment or systems. The inverse is also true. The requirement for sharing spectrum has reached international levels of concern and it must be dealt with in proportion to the safety and economic impact involved. Designing Electronic Systems for EMC outlines how.
Working with Inner Light

Working with Inner Light

William G. Gray

Skylight Press

pokkari
1965-1967 ...As the New Age seemed to explode into being, everything spiritual had to be Eastern. Psychedelic artwork showed Glastonbury Tor overshadowed by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, or Stonehenge sending its energies up to Lord Krishna - imagery which William G. Gray summed up quite simply as "Balls." He was working hard to make sure that our weakened (or slumbering) Western Traditions would survive. Among his endeavours at the time was this guide to the inner and outer practicalities of ritual magic, which includes instruction on god-forms, words of power, magic circles, initiation, extension of consciousness and raising power through ritual. Previously unpublished, Working with Inner Light is the first new book by William G. Gray since the author's death in 1992. Written in the form of a journal or magical diary, it includes his original sketches, and forms a detailed course in modern Qabalistic magic which will be of immense value to esoteric students and practitioners working within the Western Mysteries today.
The Rollright Ritual

The Rollright Ritual

In the early 1970s the redoubtable old occultist William G. Gray bicycled from his Gloucestershire home to the Rollright stone circle in Oxfordshire on a clear and full-mooned summer night. The visionary experiences he encountered on that night and in other similar visits resulted in the writing of this book, originally published by Helios Books in 1975 and now a classic among pagan and craft traditions. The text of the ritual is given in full, along with a discussion of its pattern and purpose. The Rollright Ritual is a powerful initiatory rite for attuning oneself to a personal and communal path of spiritual growth, presented here with an explanatory text and a discussion of the spiritual lives and practices of the stone circle builders of Great Britain. "Somehow, we ought to get away from ideas that a Standing Stone is only an outworn sign of our past, and see it as an upraised Finger of Fate beckoning us ahead toward our future. The Stone is not merely a memorial of bygone beliefs, but a pointer that should raise our highest hopes of finding faith in all the Life that lies ahead of us."

In The Talking Tree W.G. Gray presents an encyclopaedic and systematic analysis of the 22 Paths of the Qabalistic Tree of Life and the archetypal principles underlying them in each of the 'four worlds'. This unique work by a leading Qabalist of his generation includes a detailed and comprehensive study of the symbolism of the Tarot, in which he offers an alternative method of allocating the Major Arcana to the Paths in place of the commonly used Golden Dawn system. He also explains how the Western alphabet can be applied to the Tree of Life as a viable alternative to Hebrew letters. This book is a priceless reference work for the serious Qabalah student who has already studied the ten Sephiroth and is looking to move on to the Paths. As well as explaining the function of God-names, archangels, angelic orders and mundane archetypes for each Path, Gray seeks to demonstrate that the Tree of Life is in a continual state of growth and evolution, and that those who study and work with the Qabalah should not be afraid to apply new correspondences to it and rethink some of the traditional assumptions.

Seasonal rites are as old as the hills on which they were once practised by most of humanity. Periodically, in accordance with the natural tides of nature and the times indicated by the sun and moon, people came together to make dedicated representations of the things that bound them closest to the cosmic wheel of life. In this absorbing work, William G. Gray demonstrates the continuing relevance of such practices in modern society. The actions of the rites are performed in a circle which symbolises the cosmic course, the magical practices consisting of music, movement, meditation and meaning. Detailed scripts are given for conducting the quarterly rites of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, with complete texts of the chants, songs and invocations for each season. Seasonal Occult Rituals was originally published in 1970, now available again for the first time in forty years. "A welcome and valuable addition to the literature of Western occultism ... clear and without pretentiousness." - Doreen Valiente
