Et fransk forlag fikk i 1968 tilsendt en pakke med tretten tettskrevne kladdehefter: «Her er fortellingen om mine eventyr.» Avsenderen var Henri Charrière med kallenavnet Papillon - Sommerfuglen. Dømt for et mord han ikke har begått, sendes han til en fransk fangeøy utenfor kysten av Guyana. Førtito dager etter ankomst gjennomfører han sitt første rømningsforsøk. Det mislykkes og han blir satt i isolat og etter hvert sendt til den beryktede Djeveløya, et sykdomsinfisert og brutalt lite helvete av et sted. Ingen har noensinne lykkes i å flykte derfra. Is incarnational Christology credible? Should we understand Jesus as God incarnate?
