This book provides a concise and practical guide for Non-Physician Anaesthesia Providers (NPAPs) such as nurse anaesthetists and Non-Specialist Physicians working in remote settings. In many hospitals in low and even in some middle-income countries, nurse anaesthetists are working without the presence of a specialist anaesthesiologist at their hospital. During their training on the job or at one of the few schools of anaesthesia they have to act as improvising do-it-yourself-teachers for one another. Later in their professional life, NPAPs are often organising their continuous medical education themselves, trying to provide short presentations on topics between attending to patients. This book fills the need for a quick- to-read guide for the everyday work of NPAPs and Non-specialist physician anaesthesia providers, addressing challenges such as electricity failure, lack of technical support, drugs and materials, equipment and support of specialist anaesthesiologists. Anaesthesia in Remote Hospitals: A Guide for Anaesthesia Providers covers the most important fields of anaesthesia in a typical district or referral hospital in a place where resources are limited. It provides many useful tables with doses of drugs, sizes of airway equipment, infusion rate, examples of observation charts and anaesthesia records. Nurse Anaesthetists, Clinical Officers and Resident Physicians will find this book to be an essential guide to Anaesthesia within low resource and remote settings.

This book presents the concept of cryptcoding which arises from the need to obtain secure and accurate transmission. Therefore, it is necessary to improve constantly existing and develop new algorithms that will ensure accurate and secure data transfer. This leads to the intensive development of coding theory and cryptography as scientific fields which solve these problems. To ensure efficient and secure data transmission at the same time, the concept of cryptcoding is developed such that the coding and encryption processes are merged into one process. Cryptcodes provide correction of a certain number of errors in the transmitted message and data confidentiality, using only one algorithm. The main research in this field is to define new algorithms for coding that detects and corrects errors, random codes, stream ciphers, block ciphers, pseudo-random generators, hash functions, etc. This monograph examines an application of quasigroups for designing error-correcting cryptcodes, called Random Codes Based on Quasigroups (RCBQ ). These codes are a combination of cryptographic algorithms and error-correcting codes and depend on several parameters. Some modifications (new coding/decoding algorithms) of RCBQ for improving their performances for transmission ordinary messages, images, and audio files trough a binary-symmetric channel, Gaussian channel, and burst channels are considered. Also, authors propose and analyze filter for visually enhance of the decoded images and improving the quality of decoded audio files.
Decision-Making in Design, Maintenance, Planning, and Investment of Wind Energy
Daniela Borissova

This book demonstrates how decision-making models can be applied to solve specific real-life problems, with a particular emphasis on wind energy. In a step-by-step manner, it guides the reader through decision-making, the formulation of optimization models, and the methods for solving them. After providing an overview of various models for the design of wind farms, it presents an optimization model for deciding which economy (country) to invest in and models for selecting suppliers. A dedicated chapter focuses on different models for monitoring and predictive maintenance for wind turbines (farms) due to the construction of turbine blades and vibration. It shows how combinatorial optimization models can help to make optimal decisions for one-dimensional cutting stock of blanks, their processing, and determining the optimal composition for production. Moreover, it discusses how the energy consumption balance index formed by conventional and renewable sources can be determined and presents a means of identifying the relative share of wind energy consumption among the other renewable sources. Operations research professionals, students, and decision-makers alike will find this book to be a valuable resource for tackling real-world challenges and driving sustainable advances in wind energy solutions.

This book provides a complete and comprehensive classification of normal 2-coverings of non-abelian simple groups and their generalizations. While offering readers a thorough understanding of these structures, and of the groups admitting them, it delves into the properties of weak normal coverings. The focal point is the weak normal covering number of a group G, the minimum number of proper subgroups required for every element of G to have a conjugate within one of these subgroups, via an element of Aut(G). This number is shown to be at least 2 for every non-abelian simple group and the non-abelian simple groups for which this minimum value is attained are classified. The discussion then moves to almost simple groups, with some insights into their weak normal covering numbers. Applications span algebraic number theory, combinatorics, Galois theory, and beyond. Compiling existing material and synthesizing it into a cohesive framework, the book gives a complete overview of this fundamental aspect of finite group theory. It will serve as a valuable resource for researchers and graduate students working on non-abelian simple groups,
This volume shows how Nancy was able ‘to deconstruct’ the founding sign of all metaphysics and all transcendence by redefining the concepts of existence, corporeality, and community, opening them up to the ‘disclosure’ of the outside, to the ‘exception’ of the world. It draws on the work of the Italian philosopher, Roberto Esposito and includes a dialogue between Nancy and Esposito. The overcoming of the modern perspective is covered by Descartes and Hegel, who are analyzed in light of Nancy. This text proposes a deconstruction of the Western tradition in its philosophical, aesthetic, and political registers and conveys a new ontology that breaks with the categories of the One and the Multiple, the Universal and the Particular, in order to identify the relationship between the plural and the singular and understand what it means to be together, to be in common, to be in the world. It is suitable for scholars, researchers, and students of philosophy and comparative literature.
Domesticating the Public
Daniela Richter

The domestic sphere, the ideological as well as physical context of female life during the nineteenth century, featured prominently in German women’s writing of the period. Women writers, such as Fanny Lewald, Ida von Hahn-Hahn and E. Marlitt, who had begun to dominate Germany’s book market, addressed domestic life and female gender roles through a variety of genres. At the same time, activists such as Helene Lange and Henriette Schrader-Breymann let their vision of female gender roles shape the kindergartens and girls’ secondary schools they founded. This book discusses issues of female gender role formation and examines the ways in which women’s writing and activism contributed to the process. As a result, a rich tapestry of female social discourse is uncovered, exhibiting women’s strong commitment to shaping their destinies within a largely misogynistic political and legal national framework.
Jorge Semprún is a leading writer from the first generation of Spanish Civil War exiles, yet studies of his work have often focused solely on his literary testimony to the concentration camps and his political activities. Although Semprún’s work derives from his incarceration in Buchenwald and his expulsion from the Spanish Communist Party in 1964, limiting the discussion of his works to the autobiographical details or to the realm of Holocaust studies is reductive. The responses by many influential writers to his recent death highlight that the significance of Semprún’s work goes beyond the testimony of historical events. His self-identification as a Spanish exile has often been neglected and there is no comprehensive study of his works available in English. This book provides a global view of his œuvre and extends literary analysis to texts that have received little critical attention. The author investigates the role played by memory in some of Semprún’s works, drawing on current debates in the field of memory studies. A detailed analysis of these works allows related concepts, such as exile and nostalgia, the Holocaust, the interplay between memory and writing, politics and collective memory, and postmemory and identity, to be examined and discussed.

Fascist and colonial legacies have been determinant in shaping how Italian colonialism has been narrated in Italy till the late 1960s. This book deals with the complex problem of public memory and discursive amnesia. The detailed research that underpins this book makes it no longer possible to claim that after 1945 there was an absolute and traumatic silence concerning Italy’s colonial occupation of North and East Africa. However, the abiding public use of this history confirms the existence of an extremely selective and codified memory of that past. The author shows that colonial discourse persisted in historiography, newspapers, newsreels and film. Popular culture appears intertwined with political and economic interests and the power inscribed in elite and scientific knowledge. While readdressing the often mistaken historical time line that ignores that actual Italian colonial ties did not end with the fall of Fascism, but in 1960 with Somalia becoming independent, this book suggests that a new post Fascist Italian identity was the crucial issue in reappraisals of a national colonial past.
