Why Can't I Drink Like Everyone Else

Rachel Hart

Many people have silently asked themselves why can’t I drink like everyone else? They wonder why sometimes it feels like alcohol has a pull over them, that they don’t understand, and don’t like to talk about. They are frustrated that other people can control how much they drink without any problem, when their efforts are often hit or miss. Rachel Hart has spent years trying to answer these questions for herself and untangle this mystery. Deep down, she was afraid that her drinking was always going to be a problem, and grew more and more frustrated of the repercussions. As the years mounted, she worried that not being able to rein herself in meant something was really wrong with her. There is a solution—and it doesn’t require anyone to wear a label for the rest of their life or admit to being powerless. In fact, the tools outlined inside will reveal just how much power there is within each and every person struggling with this issue.

This book is your crash course in education from a professional teacher's / tennis pro's standpoint. It's a boiled down synopsis of my 4-year college courses from one of the highest regarded teacher's colleges in the U.S. which is Illinois State University, where I was on the varsity tennis team. While there I learned the fundamentals of how people learn, and of course several teaching methods that have been proven to get the best results of learning from the most people. Most tennis instructors have never taken a course in HOW to teach and I watch them commit all of the mistakes that somone would make in trying to teach the game of tennis, without having that education background. I've been using these methods for 25 years and refined them to a science that really works. Since I am a NLP level 1 practitioner, I have a section on how to use NLP to be the best communicator/teacher you can be. This alone is worth 100X the price of the book. Bottom line, if your students learn something while they are enjoying you, and having fun, you get more students, and YOU have fun. See what a difference it will make. Get it NOW

Elana Wolff

Thin is the line between dreaming and wakefulness, wellness and disorder, here and there, this and that. Elana Wolff's poems illuminate the porousness of states and relations, the connective compulsion of poetic perception, in language that blends the oracular and the everyday, the elliptical and the lucent, the playful and the heart-raking. The de- and re-constructive workings of the poems in Everything Reminds You of Something Else argue for empathy and attentiveness. At the core of this work is the belief that art is the sanest rage.

A full-colour illustrated guide to Canada's endemic species for young readers, from the award-winning author of Snooze-O-Rama: The Strange Ways that Animals Sleep. Canada is home to over 308 endemic species of plants and animals -- meaning they're found nowhere else on Earth. In Canada Wild, award-winning author Maria Birmingham introduces young readers to twelve uniquely Canadian animals -- many of which are threatened or endangered. Like the Sable Island sweat bee, which lives on a single sandbar three hundred kilometres off the coast of Nova Scotia; the Kermode bear, the rare white black bear also known as the "Spirit Bear", which calls the coastal rainforests of northwestern BC home; and the Peary caribou, which can be found clomping through the Arctic tundra of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Profiles of each animal showcase their habitat, diet, and status, while sidebars highlight fascinating facts about each animal, and a How's It Doing section explains where it falls on the endangerment spectrum. Informative backmatter gives young readers practical advice on conservation and combating climate change, while colour illustrations throughout -- including a map of Canada, showing the animals' habitats -- offer whimsical yet scientifically accurate depictions. From the coasts to the prairies to the mountains to the tundra, and every nook and cranny in between, Canada Wild is the perfect read for budding naturalists.

Rachael Clyne

POETRY WALES PRESS

pokkari
Rachael Clyne's You'll Never Be Anyone Else presents a direct and assured voice, demanding that we think carefully about what it takes to reconcile being different. She advises the reader to 'Stop drinking the poison / labelled "Hate me." / It's that simple. I didn't say easy.' Clyne also has an alter-ego "Girl Golem" reminiscent of a superhero but based on the mythical man made from clay and spells to protect Jewish people from persecution. Through this empowering persona, Clyne opens up an exploration of Jewish and lesbian identity. Surveying attitudes in the present day and in the past, these poems explore migrant heritage, sexual identity, domestic violence and ageing. The stories of this collection are often poignant, like the retired tailor in 'Mr Shopping Trolley', who takes to shearing newspapers, so that his scissor fingers remain busy. Or in 'Leaving Odesa', the speaker revisits the prison where - under Tsarist law - her grandmother (even as an infant) had to serve out the remainder of her father's sentence after he died. Clyne's imagery is razor sharp in its precision, as she deftly weaves different poetic forms and wildly versatile subject matter, even interspersing Yiddish phrases, as part of her own unique poetic idiolect. Take the hilarious poem, 'Jew-a-lingo (Code-switching for Jews 1970 edition)' which emphasizes Jewish humour as a staple survival strategy. You'll Never Be Anyone Else offers a unique story of survival and empowerment told in spite of experiences of violence and prejudice - this from a poet who has spent a lifetime learning self-acceptance and as a psychotherapist helping others to do similar. Treating even dark subjects with playful wit and colourful imagery, Clyne is a distinctive new voice with a powerful message about self-acceptance.

People and Computers XIV — Usability or Else!
Currently we are at the beginnings of widespread wireless connectivity and ubiquitous computing. The Web is merging with a variety of technologies: cell phones, laptop computers, hand held organisers, information appliances, and GPS and other sensors. The capability for access anytime and anywhere is here. The increasing frequency of cell phone calls at inappropriate times testifies that people no longer can easily control access. Devices can determine where they are located and can make a range of information available to users as well as make users available to others or their devices. We have proposed a general technique that promises to assist in mediating access. It capitalises on advantages afforded by computation(Hollan & Stometta, 1992). We first described the negotiation technique in the context of problems involved in scheduling meetings and then showed that similar issues, which at first may seem unrelated but in fact have much in common, arise in other contexts. One such activity, gaining immediate access, is currently of growing importance because of expanding connectivity via wireless technology. Cell phones and related technologies make it possible to be constantly available for synchronous interaction. At times, this can be advantageous but the associated costs and benefits result in a complex tradeoff space for designers as well as users.
