This book uses football as a lens through which to examine China’s economic development, its political economy, and its political thought.Focusing on the Chinese Football Development Plan, this book opens up new perspectives on the concepts of hegemony, soft power, socialism with Chinese characteristics, and China’s rise to the position of geopolitical superpower. Presenting a critical Marxist analysis of “soft power”, and drawing on Gramsci’s conceptualisation of hegemony, this book argues that football can be seen as a resource for seduction and persuasion, and therefore as an instrument to be used in the “hegemonic clash”. Reflecting on the idea of soft power in relation to imperialism and ideology, and standing in contrast to prevailing Western orthodox analyses of Chinese development, this book shows how the “Chinese Football Dream” is a significant component of the “Chinese Dream” of “rejuvenation of the nation” and shows how football can help us to better understand the role of the state as an inducer of development and creative destruction. This is fascinating reading for anybody with an interest in sport policy, public policy, sport and society, football, development studies, political economy, or political thought.

First published in 1980, Jewish Jurisprudence is the first volume of an important series analysing and setting forth the substantive principles of Jewish jurisprudence. It encompasses the applicable sources of Jewish law from the original transmission to Moses on Sinai of the terse written law and its accompanying oral elaboration through its development to the present day. Each topic concludes with the authors’ view of the present status of the law. In former years, the public teaching and discussion of law occupied a prominent place in Jewish culture. Today, estrangement from the language of Halacha has made it less accessible to the general public. This series is an attempt to open the world of Jewish law to the layperson, general scholars and specialists in jurisprudence.

Key performance indicators (KPIs) are widely used across organisations. But are they fully understood in how they can properly shape, improve, or even undermine organisational systems and outcomes? This book presents a framework and tools for measuring and managing performance at various levels within an organisation, and helps managers re-think the ways KPIs can be implemented to meet organisational goals.Innovative performance measurement and management is a vital function within any organisation irrespective of its size and industry. Measuring and managing performance (whether on an individual, team, or departmental basis) assists management in calibrating their established strategic goals by providing an insight into how well their employees and the organisation are doing and identifying areas of concern for rectification and improvement. This book focuses on the practicality of performance management tools (for example, Performance Analytics; Performance Reporting; Critical Success Factors; Balanced Scorecard; Benchmarking; Six Sigma; Business Excellence Models; Enterprise Risk Management) and illustrates their use, and the changing nature of how organisational performance will be evaluated in the future. This includes the application of Artificial Intelligence as an important trend in performance measurement and management. This book provides a universal framework for implementing a performance measurement and management system that is applicable to both the private and public sectors. It is particularly relevant to HR and operational managers, and organisational leaders and public administrators at all levels.

The issue of what defines project success (or failure) is complex and often elusive, and dependent on the perceptions of different stakeholders. In this enlightening book Emanuel Camilleri examines the key factors bearing on perceived success or failure. This book is not just about project management, it goes much deeper into the topic of project success by prescribing a project success framework. In chapters dedicated to factors such as leadership, teams, communication, information management and risk management, the author shines a light on the key behaviours in which project managers and others engage and how those behaviours predict success or failure. Practising project managers, project board members and sponsors, struggling to manage conflicting stakeholder expectations, complexity and ambiguity, will learn which factors are vital to determining successful outcomes. Finally, having highlighted the particular skills, abilities and attributes identified by the research, Dr Camilleri offers a diagnostic model for assessing an organization's preparedness for undertaking and successfully managing major projects. Project Success provides a valuable contribution to the literature on this subject, and its application delivers practical guidance that will be welcomed by project professionals at all levels.

Islands and Military Orders, c.1291-c.1798

At the heart of this volume is a concern with exploring levels of interaction between two particular objects of study, islands on the one hand, and military orders on the other. According to Fernand Braudel, islands are, ’often brutally’, caught ’between the two opposite poles of archaism and innovation.’ What happened when these particular environments interacted with the Military Orders? The various contributions in this volume address this question from a variety of angles. 1291 was a significant year for the main military orders: uprooted from their foundations in the Holy Land, they took refuge on Cyprus and in the following years found themselves vulnerable to those who questioned the validity of their continued existence. The Teutonic Order negated this by successfully transferring their headquarters to Prussia; the Knights Templar, however, faced suppression. Meanwhile, the Knights Hospitaller conquest of Rhodes assured both their survival and independence. Islands are often, by definition, seen to be embodiments of 'insularity', of an effort to be separate, distinct, cut-off. Military Orders are, conversely, international in scope, nature and personnel, the 'first international orders of the Church', as they have often been described. Therein lies the crux of the matter: how did insular outposts and international institutions come together to forge distinct and often successful experiments? Hospitaller Rhodes and Malta still impress with their magnificent architectural heritage, but their success went beyond stone and mortar and the story of islands and military orders, as will be clearly shown in this volume, also goes beyond these two small islands. The interaction between the two levels - insulation and internationalisation - and the interstices therein, created spaces conducive to both dynamism and stability as military orders and islands adapted to each other's demands, limitations and opportunities.

This book offers a multifaceted understanding of how the 9/11 attacks and the subsequent War on Terror affected the Caribbean. This book dives deeper into how the 9/11 attacks and the subsequent War on Terror impacted the region’s tourism industry, anti-terrorism legislation, and the banking/financial and immigration system. This book analyzes the US-led War on Terror through a broader conceptual lens, i.e., using two Schmittian perspectives (the friend–enemy and the sovereign in times of exception), which offers an opportunity for the methodological interpretation of Bush’s counterterrorism policy to give a novel conceptual understanding of the War on Terror in relation to the Caribbean. Thus, this book offers a nuanced and novel perspective on the subject matter. This book will be of much interest to students studying about terrorism, Caribbean studies, political theory, and international relations.

Artificial Intelligence from Science Fiction to Reality
Artificial Intelligence From Science Fiction to Reality examines various aspects, starting with the evolution of human and artificial intelligence. It places AI in its proper context and discusses non-technical aspects, such as philosophical and social issues. The major challenge leaders are likely to encounter is deciding what functions are to be entrusted to AI and how humanity can exercise control over them. The book also focuses on the hardware and software technology that support AI, and the essential cyber security systems that are required to address the evolving AI threat landscape. It examines centres for AI safety that are nonprofit research organisations, which focus on the mitigation of AI risks by proposing solutions against threat actors. The book discusses the knowledge-based economy, particularly Enterprise AI, and examines the ethical and legal issues that emerge from the practical implications of AI. While most governments have endorsed voluntary ethical and moral charters, there is a reluctance to introduce binding legislative measures. This reluctance is based on the premise that specific laws might hinder AI innovation. Furthermore, detailed private and public sector case studies are presented that demonstrate how AI applications may be successfully implemented according to a practical framework. A detailed discussion about the implications for human development is presented. The differences between key economic approaches, such as Knowledge-Based Economy, Digital Economy and Automated Economy are examined, and how these will be impacted by AI in relation to job displacement, data privacy and security, and algorithmic bias. Finally, the book also examines the era beyond AI where Organoid Intelligence is emerging. It explores future human development where humans could be turned into cyborgs with hi-tech machine implants, re-growable limbs and nanotechnology that repair damaged tissue, rejuvenating human cells leading to immortality.

JAIISEL, awakens from a sexual dream that onsets her menstruation. An overshadowed demon feeds off her during maturation. A clever tomboy, she questions everything taught in temples. She befriends JESUS. They strike a blood-bond. Jaiisel struggles between her sexuality and desire for real love. Aged seventeen, she gains knowledge in a king's harem and West India with tantric master called THALLUS. Returning home, after fourteen years, she survives similar trials to Jesus in the Sinai desert. Her demon, to its shame and future revenge, is forced to releases its hold upon her. The story then parallels biblical stories with a telling of a story from the perspective of a reluctant, iconoclastic female guru. The fates of Jaiisel and Jesus end onto the cross. Jaiisel's demon exacts its revenge by possessing Judiah to finally love her on the cross. Post death, she discovers herself and Jesus are part of the same soul.
Sexual energy is not for sex
Primal energies, inherent in us, manifest differently depending on the person and circumstances. The primal energy is the creative force typically used for procreation or genuine, healthy connection for mutual pleasure rather than sexualised due to external socially damaging factors. Sexual energy is not for sex because sex is a loving act that requires primal, human desire. In contrast, the sexual energy is explored here as the emerging animal craving force that ravages minds and incubates by quickly putting people into situations that should be rooted in healthy desire and healing, yet usually end up sexualised, abusive or misguided. This book is written for the male and female reader to inquire and understand respectively how unstable male desire unbalances one to react sexually rather than act lovingly. Our shadow and demon are characters seen as culprits destabilising our higher self or personal entity away from balance and bliss. Our entity harmonises the feelings so that sexual energy is a healing force for creativity and not dissipation via destructive sexual activity. The book will appeal to the man who wishes to grok his bad sexual habits and further surprise the woman by fulfilling her most secret fantasy; a truly lustful, loving connection. It may also appeal to the woman looking to understand men's addiction to sex more simply or to the male therapist wanting to better deal with his experiences of the female client, or couples and singles wishing or liking insight into how to deal with personal sexual excitement versus the voyeuristic heart feeling axis required to handle nights of curated excess. The author draws upon his thirty-seven years' experience massaging women to guide men through their desire issues with women. He has a jokey high moral tone to stir up the reader and question their motivations. Each chapter addresses the awkward subject of sex by revealing various ways of holding back the initial desires until natural healing and connection occurs with another person. The subjects of human versus animal natures, dealing with projections from others, jealousies, malicious gossip, misunderstandings, perversions, and rape fantasies are all dealt with as symptomatic of the sexual energy unchecked and the heart disturbed, and bodies abused. He offers dark and amusing practical examples from his work and life. It is for men to analyse and manage themselves during moments of overstimulated desires for women - as encouraged by pornography and the media that have taken men away from their wholesome association with pure lust, the celebration of bodily functions. Ultimately, this book is truthful yet tongue in cheek, severe but playful because nothing in it is the truth except to guide one to the examples of your truth via experience and not information alone. So, join Emanuel Ray as he strolls through his memory, recalling his experiences as a masseur, sensual therapist, and witness to sexual awakenings and adventures. See and learn how sexual energy can transform for self-healing and harness more than simple, mindless sex.
