“The struggle to realize and to express my nature is my life’s meaning.” — Erica Rutherford Erica Rutherford: Her Lives and Works accompanies a career-spanning retrospective exhibition of this multidisciplinary Canadian artist and transgender pioneer. An artist, actor, filmmaker, farmer, teacher, and writer, Erica Rutherford’s remarkably multifaceted career took her across several countries and continents before settling on Prince Edward Island in the 1970s. There she established herself as a painter and printmaker, using art to engage in a reflection on gender construction and agency. This remarkable retrospective includes reproductions of more than 60 paintings, prints, and drawings, as well as personal photographs. An interview with Rutherford’s widow, artist Gail Rutherford, accompanies critical essays by scholars and curators examining Rutherford’s stylistic evolution from dark semi-abstract collages to hard-edged Pop Art. Says editor and curator Pan Wendt, “In retrospect, Rutherford’s work represents a courageous and often solitary mission of working through questions that are only now part of the mainstream public discourse.”

What he discovers there blows him away...Honey Lewis, an innovative leader in the field of dentistry, is invited to a cutting-edge stem cell research conference. The man who issued the last-minute invitation is someone she met at a similar workshop years earlier. While she knows she doesn't have the experience, she nevertheless can't resist attending to learn the industry's latest. Once she arrives in Kabul, she runs into another man-one she never expected or hoped to see again. She met Erick a year ago in New Mexico when she smashed into his beloved, vintage '69 Mustang. Unbelievably, he's still upset about the accident. If only his overexcitement didn't bring out corresponding emotions in her...With too many things going on at once-in her life and inside her own heart-the tug-of-war all but blindsides her with the realization that the man who befriended her might not be the man she thought he was.

Erich von Manstein was one of the most successful German commanders of World War II. His military mind proved outstanding in many a conflict but perhaps his greatest triumph was his ingenious operational plan that led to the rapid defeat of France in May 1940. Manstein also showed great skill under adversity by commanding a furious rebuff to the Soviet armies in 1943, whilst Germany were retreating. However, his skill could not reverse Germany's declining fortunes and Manstein's frequent disagreement's with Hitler over military strategy led to his dismissal. Robert Forczyk tells the story of one of Germany's most valuable military talents, from his early years to his post-war conviction and his later career.
Ericksonian Therapy Now: The Master Class With Jeffrey K. Zeig
From Jeffrey K. Zeig: Milton Erickson was my mentor intermittently for more than six years; he was also an inspiration in creating the Master Class. At his essence, Erickson was experiential. He was the most radically experiential therapist to ever practice. Creating transformative experiences is a component in many schools of therapy, including rational emotive behavior therapy and cognitive behavior therapy, but for Erickson being experiential was not merely a component; it was the foundation of his therapeutic work. Erickson's experiential approach is derived from hypnosis, which is essentially an experiential technique, not a means of providing information. The subtext of hypnosis is: "By living this experience, you can be different." This book is an opportunity to study single-session therapies that are based in experiential methods. The learning from these methods is primarily stimulated by the client "living" the change, not by intellectual understanding of how to change. The participants declare what they are going to do differently, and the sessions are designed to create experiences that foster the accomplishment of stated goals. Participants have solved complex problems and have made significant life changes. They have overcome writer's block and then completed a book; they are happier in their jobs and relationships; they rebalance work and life; and they surmount childhood trauma. The transcripts contained here offer opportunities to sit in on live interactions between therapist and client. An extraordinary adjunct to the transcripts are the participants'-all stellar professionals themselves-notes on the sessions. They articulate their understandings and impressions in such powerful ways that upon reading their perspectives I also took away something new.
Erich Muhsam - Psychology of the Rich Aunt

Erich Muhsam - Psychology of the Rich Aunt

Erich Mühsam

With Psychology of the Rich Aunt, German author Erich Mühsam made his ironic bid for authorial immortality by announcing his discovery that immortality in fact exists—specifically in the person of the Rich Aunt. Through 25 case studies, arranged alphabetically (from Aunt Amalia to Aunt Zerlinde), Mühsam argues his case: the Rich Aunt is able to live forever provided she has a nephew waiting for her demise and for his inheritance. The corollary revealed in these tales, of course, is that a Rich Aunt’s eternal rest is directly tied to her nephew’s deprivation of said inheritance. The pathways to an immortal’s demise can thus be the result of anything from the vagrancies of sexual proclivities or the stock market to the unforeseen expenses of literary ambitions. The Rich Aunt emerges as the enduring fly in the ointment of Church, Family and State, the undoing of fate personified and the transformation of morality into mortality under the aegis of Capital. Originally published in German in 1905, Psychology of the Rich Aunt is a caustically tongue-in-cheek portrayal of greed under capitalism in the bourgeois epoch. Erich Mühsam (1878–1934) was a German-Jewish anarchist writer, poet, playwright, cabaret songwriter and a fierce satirist of the Nazi party. He played a key role in the short-lived Bavarian Soviet Republic, championed the rights of women and homosexuals, advocated for free love and vegetarianism, and opposed capitalism and war. He was brutally murdered in the Oranienburg concentration camp.
