The Universechild drawings combine elements from abstract expressionism, surrealism and psychedelic poster art into a fantastic existential comic narrative. Universechild was inspired by the early comic strip work of Windsor McKay (Little Nemo), Hal Foster (Prince Valiant), Alex Raymond (Flash Gordon), and later comic art by Will Eisner, Jack Kirby and others, and is loosely based on William Blake's drawings for Dante's Divine Comedy. In the inventiveness of its abstract elements and complexity of form it seeks to travel beyond comics, through contemporary art and into the unknown."James Pustorino synthesizes science fiction, comic books, Abstract Expressionism and psychedelic art, all in the service of approximating the profound mystery of existence. A mythic narrative about a being born into space, where he struggles to understand his surroundings and purpose."- - John Motley, The OregonianRevised June 2011 edition features 44 full color pages.
James Baldwin a Soul on Fire a Short Play by Howard B. Simon
JAMES BALDWIN A SOUL ON FIRE a short play by HOWARD B. SIMON....Edited by Charles Reese, Introduction By David Leeming, Afterword by Forrest McClendon The year 2012 marks the beginning of a year long celebration of the 25th anniversary of the passing of author/civil rights activist, James Baldwin (1924-1987). The book cover image actually consists of 2000 tiny separate images from the 1963 Civil Rights Era. The result is a beautiful photo mosaic of James Baldwin WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT JAMES BALDWIN: A SOUL ON FIRE "The best sort of theatrical biography; the sort that thoroughly entertains. RIDE OF A LIFETIME The Life and Times of James Houston. Book Two
Continuing the Life and Times of James Houston, Book Two focuses on 38 years in Melbourne, where James worked initially as a research officer for the Victorian Council of Churches' project aimed at promoting a multicultural approach to the training of clergy. Though intending to return to Canberra when the program was completed, an association with the then Anglican Archbishop of Melbourne, the Rev Dr David Penman, who supported multiculturalism and other justice issues, led to a suggestion to consider ordination to the Anglican ministry. At the age of 55 James eventually took this step, and after appropriate theological training was appointed to the parish of St Mary Magdalene in Dallas, Broadmeadows, where he and his wife Marjorie spent seven fulfilling years. The journey from academic writer to pastoral carer had begun. This continued when he was invited to become the Director of Cross-Cultural Ministry for the Diocese of Melbourne. During the three years he served in this position, he sought to encourage Anglicans generally to broaden their essentially mono-cultural identity, given that the city itself was arguably the most multicultural in the country, as well as supporting the few cross-cultural parishes existing at the time. After retiring from that position James joined forces with Chinese priest Rick Cheung and served together with him in a bilingual parish. This was a heartwarming venture and one which subsequently opened doors to ministry in China. This book is written in exquisite prose: it tells the story of a beautiful man who loved life and lived it to the full, who also loved Jesus and sought to follow in his way. Passionate about travel and the splendour of creation, he respected and valued human life in all its diversity, hating injustice and all forms of discrimination. It is a personal story but also a social commentary on the issues of its time, and well worth the reading.

After getting caught swiping a few chickens from a neighbour, James Squire was sentenced to seven years in Sydney Cove. You could say it was the best thing he ever did - it led to him become a brewer, policeman, property tycoon, respected citizen and a bloody rich guy. All because of the theft of a few chooks. But if all you know about James Squire is what you've read on labels on beer bottles, then you really don't know that much at all. This book - the first biography of Squire - separates the facts from the well-known myths about his life. For instance, he never stowed away on the First Fleet ship carrying female convicts, didn't get lashed for stealing the ingredients to make beer and might not have been the first person to grow hops in Australia. He was also a man who may have used a false name on his daughter's birth certificate, loathed people who cut down trees on his property and got along far better with the natives than most of the other white newcomers. Along the way you'll also discover a few other things about Sydney Cove, including Captain Arthur Phillip's efforts to get his hands on some Aboriginal heads for a friend, early Australian's fondness for cider rather than beer, the fight rival brewer John Boston had over a dead pig and the marine who tried to trade his hat for an Aboriginal child.
