This flexible intervention assists inmates with significant problem behaviors by reducing psychological impairment and improving their ability to cope with prison life. This book includes a program introduction and guide for clinicians, the inmate workbook, and accompanying eResources to assist clinicians in both successful program implementation and evaluation of treatment outcomes.Designed to account for the safety and physical limitations that make the delivery of needed mental and behavioral health services difficult, this guide is essential reading for practitioners working with high-needs, high-risk inmate populations.

We define enumerative invariants associated to a hybrid Gauged Linear Sigma Model. We prove that in the relevant special cases these invariants recover both the Gromov-Witten type invariants defined by Chang-Li and Fan-Jarvis-Ruan using cosection localization as well as the FJRW type invariants constructed by Polishchuk-Vaintrob. The invariants are defined by constructing a "fundamental factorization" supported on the moduli space of Landau-Ginzburg maps to a convex hybrid model. This gives the kernel of a Fourier-Mukai transform; the associated map on Hochschild homology defines our theory.

Southeast Louisiana Food: A Seasoned Tradition

Southeast Louisiana Food: A Seasoned Tradition

History Press
2014
nidottu
The cuisine of Southeast Louisiana is informed by a unique landscape. Defined by water--Vermillion Bay to the west, marshlands to the east, the Mississippi River to the north and the Gulf Coast to the south--the scenery transitions from verdant swamps to open seas stocked with diverse wildlife. The indigenous Cajun cuisine is a cultural blend three centuries in the making, with traces of American Indian, French, German, Italian and African heritage. To feed themselves and bourgeoning markets, locals built formidable aquaculture empires. Eventually, the area became less isolated, offering more opportunity while threatening traditions. With interviews and family recipes, authors Addie K. and Jeremy Martin present the history behind this enchanting culinary tradition.

Education, Equality, and Meritocracy in a Global Age

Education, Equality, and Meritocracy in a Global Age

Takehiko Kariya; Jeremy Rappleye

Teachers' College Press
2020
nidottu
How has schooling functioned in the construction of meritocratic national systems historically? To what extent will these historical patterns and normative commitments continue in the new era of a global meritocracy? And ultimately, how can educators effectively balance the inherent tension between individual merit and standardized quality? Kariya and Rappleye explore the answers to these questions and more by focusing on the Japanese model, long recognized globally for being one of the most equitable and meritocratic systems in the world. Looking at the country’s educational history and policy shifts, the authors point to the important comparative lessons for sociology and education research. They show how the Japanese experience can inform global approaches to educational reform and policymaking—and how this kind of exploration can reinvigorate a more rigorous discussion of meritocracy, equality, and education.Book Features:Rethink the complex relationships among meritocracy, education, and equality from a global perspective.See how nations beyond North America and Western Europe have developed different, more equitable approaches to improve outcomes for all learners.Explore the root causes of current problems in meritocracy through a look at the historical background of Japan’s postwar experience.Transcend prevailing stereotypes of Japanese education and society, and reconceptualize these differences as alternative approaches.Understand how pedagogical approaches and funding mechanisms are fundamentally entangled through the authors’ rich empirical detail.
