Wonder Women

Genny Lim s poem 'Wonder Woman,' first published in 1981, follows a narrator who observes the everyday lives of Asian women across generations, countries, and socioeconomic backgrounds wondering if their experiences reflect her own. The poem centers Asian women as its protagonists and asks what commonalities exist between these women. Often underrepresented in museum collections and important exhibitions, Asian American women and non-binary artists are now receiving recognition: This book expands on two landmark shows, curated by Kathy Huang, at Jeffrey Deitch in New York in May 2022 and Los Angeles in September 2022, organized in response to increasing anti-Asian racism and violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. The forty featured artists, each represented with five paintings and a personal statement, subvert stereotypes and assert their identities in places where they have historically been marginalized. While some featured artists explore identity through self-portraiture, others depict the heroines in their lives, offering works that highlight family, community, and history. Several of the works address colonial and patriarchal structures in the West, legends, and myths. With newly-commissioned essays and paintings created within the last four years, this book is a current, open-ended collection of contemporary Asian American experiences.

Elements of Effective Governance: Measurement, Accountability and Participation is one of the first books to explore the relationship between accountability, government performance, and public participation. It discusses two main assumptions: greater accountability leads to better performance; and the more the public is involved in the measurement of government performance, the more they can hold government accountable for its performance.Presenting an introduction to each topic, this book provides a thorough understanding of theories, concepts, and practices. The beginning sections explore the basics of performance measurement, look at public sector accountability, and examine the rationale for and against direct citizen participation. The later sections provide an integrated discussion of performance measurement, accountability, and citizen participation and demonstrate how the strategic alignment of these critical concepts can lead to more effective governance. The final section incorporates in-depth case studies of a variety of efforts to implement performance measurement, hold individuals and organizations accountable for results, and involve the public in the deliberative process. Through theoretical and practical discussions, this book highlights the importance of, as well as the challenges associated with, government performance, accountability, and citizen participation. By combining these components under one cover, this book demonstrates the importance of their mutually reinforcing relationships. This volume provides the tools needed to design and develop strategies to improve government performance and demonstrate accountability. It provides a balanced perspective with its rational discussion of performance measurement and its skeptical assessment of the relationship between performance improvement and the demands for greater accountability.

Kathy Troccoli

We all can identify with the experience of facing one of life's storms and crying out to God for an answer. However, if we listen closely, we hear Him provide not an answer but rather another question- "Am I Not Still God?" It is perhaps the only question that matters. How you answer it may shape the rest of your life. Using examples from her own experience, Kathy Troccoli shares how God is unconcerned with explaining Himself-instead He is concerned with demonstrating love and developing a holy character in us. She details God as the ultimate shelter in the face of the most violent storms. As these painful trials are allowed into our life He promises we will never suffer in vain.
