Cauchy's Problem for Hyperbolic Equations: Winter and Spring Quarters, 1957, University of Chicago
The book ""Cauchy's Problem For Hyperbolic Equations: Winter And Spring Quarters, 1957, University Of Chicago"" by Lars Garding is a comprehensive guide to the study of hyperbolic equations and their solutions. The book is based on lectures given by Garding at the University of Chicago during the winter and spring quarters of 1957.The book begins with an introduction to hyperbolic equations and their properties. It then goes on to discuss the Cauchy problem for hyperbolic equations, which involves finding a solution to the equation that satisfies certain initial conditions. The book covers various methods for solving the Cauchy problem, including the method of characteristics, the Fourier transform method, and the Laplace transform method.Throughout the book, Garding provides numerous examples and exercises to help readers understand the concepts and techniques presented. He also includes a detailed bibliography for further reading and research.Overall, ""Cauchy's Problem For Hyperbolic Equations"" is an essential resource for anyone studying hyperbolic equations and their applications in mathematics and physics. It is written in a clear and concise style, making it accessible to both students and researchers in the field.Investigations In The Theory Of Partial Differential Equations, Technical Report, No. 2. Linear Partial Differential Operators is a comprehensive book written by Lars Hormander, a prominent mathematician in the field of partial differential equations. The book provides a thorough introduction to the theory of linear partial differential operators, which are fundamental tools for understanding many areas of mathematics and physics. The book begins with an overview of basic concepts in partial differential equations, including the classification of equations, boundary value problems, and the method of characteristics. The author then introduces the theory of linear partial differential operators, including the study of elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic operators, as well as their associated boundary value problems.Throughout the book, Hormander emphasizes the importance of functional analysis and the use of operator theory in the study of partial differential equations. He also provides numerous examples and applications of the theory, including the study of wave propagation, heat flow, and potential theory.Linear Partial Differential Operators is a valuable resource for graduate students and researchers in mathematics, physics, and engineering who are interested in the theory and applications of partial differential equations. The book is written in a clear and concise style, making it accessible to readers with a strong background in analysis and advanced calculus.Grundlehren Der Mathematischen Wissenschaften In Einzeldarstellungen Mit Besonderer Berucksichtigung Der Anwendungsgebiete, V116.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. The Nibelungenlied

The Nibelungenlied

The Nibelungenlied, translated as The Song of the Nibelungs, is an epic poem in Middle High German. The story tells of dragon-slayer Siegfried at the court of the Burgundians. It may be considered as the worlds first fantasy story. Heroes, dragons, treasures, sword fights and magic. This is the prose version of the famous epic poem. The Nibelungenlied is based on pre-Christian Germanic heroic motifs (the "Nibelungensaga"), which include oral traditions and reports based on historic events and individuals of the 5th and 6th centuries. Old Norse parallels of the legend survive in the Volsunga saga, the Prose Edda, the Poetic Edda, the Legend of Norna-Gest, and the Piorekssaga.

My Name is not Mzungu

A hopefully reasonably coherent string of tales about the odd, funny, exhilarating and at times sad experiences I have survived through many years in Africa. I have endeavoured to let the characters I have met along the way be the thread that carries the reader through the abundance of colour, music, pure human energy and determination to succeed which constantly confronts the observer in Africa. Restless and aimless but with highs of love and lows of broken promises and dreams characterise my relationship with Africa. The Africa that will never let go of me.
Cadmium in the Environment

Cadmium in the Environment

The focus of this report is upon information essential to the understanding of the toxic action of cadmium and the relationship between dose (exposure) and effects on human beings and animals. The therapy of cadmium poisoning has not been discussed. This review on cadmium in the environment has been performed under a contract between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Environmental Hygiene of the Karolinska Institute, Sweden. The report is intended to serve as a background paper for a future Air Quality Criteria document on cadmium. Therefore, particular attention has been given to information relevant for the evaluation of risks due to long-term exposure to low concentrations of cadmium. Acute effects from short-term exposure to high concentrations are dealt with briefly. In vitro studies without bearing on the main problem have not been dealt with. The report is not limited to effects from exposure via inhalation. Newly accessible information, showing that large populations may be exposed considerably via the oral route, can elucidate chronic effects of cadmium in general. Man and animals can be victims of secondary exposure through vehicles such as food and water which have been contaminated by cadmium in air.
Agricultural Domestic Support Under the WTO

Agricultural Domestic Support Under the WTO

Lars Brink; David Orden

Cambridge University Press
2023
sidottu
The WTO Agreement on Agriculture subjects different groups of developed and developing countries to different limits on domestic support and allows various exemptions from these limits. Offering a comprehensive assessment of the Agreement's rules and implementation, this book develops guidance toward socially desirable support policies. Although dispute settlement has clarified interpretation of the Agriculture and SCM Agreements, gaps remain between the legal disciplines and the economic effects of support. Considering the Agriculture Agreement also in the context of today's priorities of sustainability and climate change mitigation, Lars Brink and David Orden build a strategy that aligns the rules and members' commitments with the economic impacts of agricultural support measures. While providing in-depth analysis of the existing rules, their shortcomings and the limited scope of ongoing negotiations, the authors take a long-term view, where policies directed toward evolving priorities in agriculture are compatible with strengthened rules that reduce trade and production distortions.
Democracy's Double Helix

Democracy's Double Helix

Lars Behrisch

Cambridge University Press

Where does our modern democracy come from? It is a composite of two very different things: a medieval tradition of political participation, pluralistic but highly elitist; and the notion of individual equality, emerging during the early modern period. These two things first converged in the American and French revolutions – a convergence that was not only unexpected and unplanned but has remained fragile to this day. Democracy's Double Helix does not trace democracy back into history, assuming that it was bound to come about, but looks at the political practices and attitudes prevailing before its emergence. From this perspective, it becomes clear that there was little to predict the coming of democracy. It also becomes clear that the two historical trajectories that formed it obey very different logics and always remain in tension. From this historical vantage point, we can better understand the nature of our democracy and its current crisis.
