1000 tulosta hakusanalla Marina Bohlmann-Modersohn
Lyrical and symbolic, The Trojan Mare by Marina Sur Puhlovski is a fascinating metaphor for the Yugoslavian society and political atmosphere in the period from 1929 to the late 1980's.Brimming with humor and biting political satire, the book offers multiple interpretations and thought-provoking narratives against the backdrop of broken dreams, setups, and an assembly of peculiar characters.Politics, love, corruption, and betrayal are among the compelling themes in this stunningly imagined historical tale skillfully rendered in poetry - the story of a time, place, and broken people.
A second look at distraction, extracting untold pleasures from its alleged dangers, defending and celebrating the unfocused life for the small and great wonders it can deliver. This short book takes a second look at distraction, extracting untold pleasures from its alleged dangers, defending and celebrating the unfocused life for the small and great wonders it can deliver. It tracks the paths of writers that built their works around non-linear thinking. Bergson called on distraction to sharpen our perceptions; Proust's greatest epiphany came from stumbling, not walking in a straight line; Nietzsche never trusted a thought that didn't come from perambulation. The wanderings documented in these pages carry none of the stigma of attention deficit. Quite the opposite. In Montaigne's words, there is a marvelous grace in letting thoughts be carried away at the pleasure of the wind. It is time to side with some of the great propagandists of so-called wasted time and cultivate controlled mental mayhem. Come join the ranks of the great hedonists of meandering thought.

"You need to paint with your heart and not your head, Marie-Claire, or you'll never pass the Critique." Professor Dixon said bluntly. "Leave your comfort zone and follow your heart."The dreaded Critique. The Lady Warwick College of Arts and Design prided itself on being the best art school in London, or the world for that matter, and unless Marie-Claire Wentworth figured out a way to loosen up and throw caution to the wind it was a certainty they would be showing her to the door. Back to America. But the Lady Warwick was where she wanted to be and she was willing to do whatever it took to stay there. It was home now, a place where she could immerse herself in painting her beloved birds and wild fowl, far from the embarrassment of a failed romance. Now her professors were forcing her to push her own boundaries - or else. "Follow you heart " Professor Dixon had commanded. It was like a bad joke - all she did was eat, sleep and paint, there was no room in her life for any passion.Until she met Mick.Mick Carr had worked damned hard to earn his reputation as Kingsbury Town Football Club's King Jack-About-Town, and now that they had reached the stratospheric levels of England's Premier League his choices were endless. The most beautiful women in the world found him irresistible and millions followed his exploits in the daily tabloids. It seemed like every door in London was open to the handsome footballer, and his raging appetite knew no bounds.Until he met Marie-Claire.It was love at first sight. Or, rather, the moment he first saw her paintings. The birds in them, he knew them. Pheasants, quail, swans, they were his world. His other world, not the fast life he lived in London, but the life he lived in on his farm, in the country. Where he was happy. She was a student, though, and he normally gave them a wide berth. What would she want with a man who'd left school at fifteen? But she was gorgeous and Mick was captivated. He tried to be reasonable, honestly he did, but somehow things always got out of control where Marie-Claire was concerned. It seemed so simple, Marie-Claire thought, a quick romance to drag her out of her comfort zone. One kiss in a dark alcove wouldn't hurt anything, and it was easy to be with Mick. Easy to melt into his arms. Easy to forget he was a prime tabloid target. But what started as a harmless fling turned into a nationwide scandal splashed across the front page of every tabloid in the country. Hordes of paparazzi chased her through streets for a fresh photograph that would fetch top money. Mick constantly assured her that it would all blow over but his ex-girlfriend seemed intent on brewing trouble at every turn.Mick might hold the key to her success but he also held the keys to her destruction. Will his love save her or destroy her?
Julie Randall needs that book. Not because it's a rare first-edition, but because the handwritten notes in the margins will unlock the secrets of her Victorian-era kitchen garden in north London. The book was almost hers, but now it's in the hands of some aristocratic jerk who probably doesn't know a tomato from a cucumber. Make that a handsome, aristocratic jerk. Kingsbury Town Football Club star midfielder Hugo Auchincloss has that book and isn't about to give it up quite so easily. Julie has lit a spark that he hasn't felt in a long time, and he's not going to be satisfied until he has her-that idiot boyfriend of hers be damned. It would be easy.Until it wasn't.
Dylan Rhea's life is a mess, and it just keeps getting worse. He retired from Kingsbury Town Football Club in disgrace, his girlfriend threw him out, and now he's running his father's non-league football club into the ground. He's a miserable failure and it doesn't seem that things will ever turn around.Until Penny Adams arrives on his doorstep with a strange request.Penny doesn't want to be in north London with a pick-axe in her duffle bag and only enough money to last four days. But she has a job to do, and she wants to get it over with as soon as possible. Because then she can go back to Indiana and get her life back on track.By a miracle, Dylan lets her dig. And as Penny keeps digging, remarkable things begin happening. Dylan's team starts winning, and against all odds, keeps winning. Is this the invisible hand of a long-dead queen, or just a series of extraordinary coincidences? But there are powerful forces who don't want Dylan to keep winning, and they want Penny out of the way as well. How long will Dylan and Penny's luck hold out?

DREAM A BETTER DREAM is a call to action. The turbulent nature of current events is indicative of major imbalances in personal and global energy fields. Judging from history, there has never been an era of peace and harmony, which begs the question-why is that? The answers to this enigma have been buried in the shrouded mystery of our past - before time - when our collective energies created this physical Universe. As a result, the Earth and everything on it became solidified into heavy matter and encapsulated in physical form, while being steeped into darkness. Over time, our thoughts, which are energy as we are, became darker and heavier, setting the stage for chaos and suffering. As all energy is in a state of continuous movement, it is cast out into our atmosphere, affecting as well as infecting others. In order to change our present condition, we need more people to think differently by changing their attitudes and minds, bringing more positive energy, or Light and Love, into our world. People, who are concerned about daunting world problems and how it will affect their own future, will find solutions here to heal themselves and our planet. Instead of living in fear and darkness, change the dream to light and love. The future starts now and within you The world needs you to save it After reading this inspiring and thought-provoking book, you will: - Understand the nature of your thoughts and harness their power - Discover the value of being positively selfish - Find out how to take stress out of stress - Learn to de-clutter your brain through mindfulness

Challenging traditional historiographical approaches, this book offers a new history of Italian Jews in the early modern age. The fortunes of the Jewish communities of Italy in their various aspects – demographic, social, economic, cultural, and religious – can only be understood if these communities are integrated into the picture of a broader European, or better still, global system of Jewish communities and populations; and, that this history should be analyzed from within the dense web of relationships with the non-Jewish surroundings that enveloped the Italian communities. The book presents new approaches on such essential issues as ghettoization, antisemitism, the Inquisition, the history of conversion, and Jewish-Christian relations. It sheds light on the autonomous culture of the Jews in Italy, focusing on case studies of intellectual and cultural life using a micro-historical perspective. This book was first published in Italy in 2014 by one of the leading scholars on Italian Jewish history. This book will appeal to students and scholars alike studying and researching Jewish history, early modern Italy, early modern Jewish and Italian culture, and early modern society.

Enriching Arts Education through Aesthetics examines the use of aesthetic theory as the foundation to design and implement arts activities suitable for integration in school curricula in pre-school and primary school education. This book suggests teaching practices based on the connection between aesthetics and arts education and shows that this kind of integration promotes enriched learning experiences. The book explores how the core ideas of four main aesthetic approaches – the representationalist, the expressionist, the formalist, and the postmodernist – translate into respective ways of designing and implementing experiential aesthetics-based activities. Containing relevant examples of interventions used in classes, it analyzes the ways in which the combination of different aesthetic approaches can support varied, multifaceted, multimodal and balanced teaching situations in school. This innovative book will appeal to academics, researchers, professionals and students in the fields of arts education, early childhood and primary education and curriculum studies.
Becoming a Romanov. Grand Duchess Elena of Russia and her World (1807–1873)

The Russian Great Reforms of the 1860s were the last major modernizing effort by the Romanov dynasty. From 1855 to 1861, Grand Duchess Elena, born Princess Charlotte of Württemberg (1807-1873), acted as the spokeswoman for the reform-minded circles of Russian society, bringing before her nephew Emperor Alexander II a group of civic-minded experts who formed the core of the committee that prepared the greatest and most complex of the reforms, the abolition of serfdom in Russia. The Grand Duchess’s involvement in these crucial events in Russian history highlights the considerable influence aristocratic women had in Russian society, quite unlike women of the same class and status in Western Europe. A study of the Grand Duchess Elena of Russia offers a new understanding of Russian and international events of the time, the Romanovs’ role in them, the degree of autonomy enjoyed by high-born women in Russia and the ways in which new ideas gained ground in the nineteenth-century Russian empire. Based on abundant and largely unused archival sources, published documents and literature of the period in French, Russian, German, Italian and English, this is the first book about Grand Duchess Elena and it expertly interweaves the story of a woman’s life with that of Imperial Russian high politics.
