Houston, Texas is home to one of the oldest creative writing departments in the country. Harbinger Asylum is a Houston based poetry and arts journal existing on the outskirts of the academic sphere where artists are in control of the endgame, not professors. Yet we are not beat either, exactly. We pride ourselves on representing a broad range of ideas, of encouraging intellectual adventure and honesty as well as poetic experiment. We enjoy poetry that blends mysticism with social revolution, edge with tradition, thought with emotion. We do not shy from uncomfortable truths ad we do not pander to ideological politics. Our immediate aim is to portray humanity in its yearnings, genius, and fire as well as its failings and compromises. We want to be the historians and prophets, the signposts and signals, of the age we live in. Freedom of thought is a sacred art. Harbinger Asylum will tear at the forces that seek to bottle and box the human imagination into simple prescriptions. The world wants to put the human mind in a box, but let's save the confinement until we die. Poetry lives
Urban Land Use Planning, Fifth Edition

Urban Land Use Planning, Fifth Edition

University of Illinois Press
2006
sidottu
Divided into three sections, this edition of Urban Land Use Planning deftly balances an authoritative, up-to-date discussion of current practices with a vision of what land use planning should become. It explores the societal context of land use planning and proposes a model for understanding and reconciling the divergent priorities among competing stakeholders; it explains how to build planning support systems to assess future conditions, evaluate policy choices, create visions, and compare scenarios; and it sets forth a methodology for creating plans that will influence future land use change. Discussions new to the fifth edition include how to incorporate the three Es of sustainable development (economy, environment, and equity) into sustainable communities, methods for including livability objectives and techniques, the integration of transportation and land use, the use of digital media in planning support systems, and collective urban design based on analysis and public participation.

Church Militant Publications

Moving beyond the modern reticence to provide robust biblical justification for the doctrine of the Trinity, Our God is Triune is a thoroughgoing defense of the very foundation of the Christian faith. The authors have provided a multidisciplinary consideration of the doctrine of the Trinity, the deity of Christ, and the doctrine of the incarnation in light of heresies both ancient and modern. While academic in approach, Our God is Triune provides an accessible array of subject material dealing with the nature and identity of God.
Future Flooding and Coastal Erosion Risks

Future Flooding and Coastal Erosion Risks

This book presents a comprehensive insight into the flooding system, spanning multiple disciplines across different sectors of the flood and flood management professions. It forecasts the manner in which flooding and coastal erosion risks may increase during the 21st century due to climate change and socio-economic development in the UK and presents an examination of the integrated measures necessary to manage future increases in risk, through sustainable methods. It summarises the previously unpublished science and engineering behind the Foresight Project of Flood and Coastal Defence performed on behalf of the Office of Science and Technology (now the Office of Science and Innovation) and reveals the methodological basis for the study as well as its outcomes. A qualitative assessment of the drivers of flood and coastal erosion risks under various scenarios are presented, with quantitative analysis outlined to demonstrate the efficacy of national databases and the Risk Assessment for Strategic Planning (RASP) tool. The findings in this book demonstrate that to manage future flood and coastal erosion risks sustainably, a portfolio of integrated measures is required. As many of the measures require long lead-times to become effective, the concluding advice is that the time to act is now. It provides academics, professionals and decision makers with the science base for envisaging and, in due course, achieving detailed guidance on sustainable flood and coastal risk management in the UK during the 21st century.
