Random Destinations examines how novels and short stories portray those who managed to escape from Central Europe in the 1930s following the rise of Nazism. They faced many concrete and psychological problems at their random destinations: language acquisition, adjustment to different moves, fitting into the community, coming to terms with having been rejected by their homeland, the conflict between the desire to remember and/or forget their past, and, above all, the need to reshape their identities. Their personal struggles are contextualized within their historical situation, both global and specific to their new locale. The book argues that fiction, by taking ordinary escapees' difficulties into account, paradoxically offers a more subtle and true picture than sociological studies, that have tended to foreground the successes of a few outstanding individuals.

A whimsical look back at a man's life. It includes growing up in the 40's in Colorado, Texas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico. (An Army brat.) Being a teenager in Texas, Pennsylvania and New Jersey as well as serving in the Air Force and getting married in the 50's. While in the Air Force was stationed in Mississippi, Texas, Louisiana and Europe. Moved back to Texas permanently as a young married man in the early 60's, divorced in the late 60's, remarried in the late 70's and raised a second family. Worked in Texas, New Mexico, upstate N.Y., Hawaii, and in Asia (as a D.O.D. Contractor).
Frank Bland, a research analyst in the Department of Family and Community Services, has uncovered corruption in a major social welfare experiment. The contractor, Construct, Inc., under the direction of its CEO, Everett Gridley, has been manipulating data from the study to support the agenda of an ambitious U.S. Senator. The stakes for the Senator are high. If the study's findings support her proposal for welfare reform and Congress enacts it into law, she could be tapped as the President's running mate in the upcoming election. With occasional support from two colleagues, Julia Rodriguez and Vincent Thieu, plus a journalist friend, Helen Pullitz, Bland gradually assembles the evidence against Gridley. A third colleague, Barney Steadman, from the Inspector General's office, steps in to help. Bland finds himself attracted to both Julia and Helen, but for very different reasons in each case. Furthermore he is not sure of their feelings toward him. This dilemma dogs him as the investigation proceeds. Bland's efforts to expose the fraudulent research face official hostility and put his career in jeopardy. Subsequent attempts on his life threaten to stop the investigation dead in its tracks. This book is a compilation of articles and poems I have written over the years -some are personal experiences, some seasonal topics, some commentaries and some open letters. I humbly acknowledge that this book is inspired by all the teachings from spiritual teachers that I came across over the years in my search for the meaning of life. In this initial book, I hope to impart to my dear readers some lessons I have learned from personal observations, but most importantly, lessons culled from some of the greatest minds the world has ever produced of whom I have the most profound admiration and respect. May these lessons teach us how to live a wonderful, happy and meaningful life in a virtually perfect world which we ourselves create.
Poems about God, and the beauty He has given us on this earth. The beauty one can see whether its spring and the flowers bloom, summer when children are frolicking about, fall when the leaves turn such gorgeous colors, winter when the snow has fallen or is blowing helter skelter. All one has to do is look out the window and see the beauty all around.
