The Sporting Road: Travels Across America in an Airstream Trailer--With Fly Rod, Shotgun, and a Yellow Lab Named Sweetzer
More than just a "man and his dog" hunting adventure, The Sporting Road is a book about the land and man's place in it. It is also, in many ways, a book about relationships; with nature, animals, and the people with who live around us. As Rick Bass says in his introduction, Jim Fergus is a man for whom "The common denominator is not geographical, but internal; here is a man who belongs intensely to the living. And slowly, gradually --essay by essay--you become aware of the unsaid: the fact that he fits a diminishing time, a diminishing space, and a diminishing code of manners. That he always puts others before him; that he considers and respects his friends, his prey, his dogs, and the landscapes that engage these things."
The Mute Christian, Under the Smarting Rod
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic -- a debate that continues in the twenty-first century.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. Dark Queens and Their Quarry: Poems: Boneshadows of Motherskin: 2017-2019 & Hot Rod Butterfly: 2000-2014
Dark Queens and Their Quarry is the first collection of poems from Lisa King. As a lyricist and songwriter for Atlanta band The Hot Place, she is no stranger to creative wordplay. Boneshadows of Motherskin was written on her vintage Smith-Corona typewriter, every morning over coffee, during 2017-2019. Influenced by the work of Robert Bly, Aleister Crowley, Carl Jung, and Joseph Campbell, Boneshadows is a seasonal journey, which addresses the Mother Wound through mythological storytelling and archetypal imagery. In the tradition of William Blake, the collection is accompanied by a series of six illustrations made by Ms. King, related to the poetry. Hot Rod Butterfly was written between 2000 and 2014. Its rhythmic style and hallucinogenic visions are reminiscent of her Beat, Rock and Roll, Decadent, and Surrealist influences. This special edition, independently published by No Big Wheel Press & Publishing House, is edited by musician and writer Jeff Calder.
