The United States Carbine, Caliber .30, M1 is a lightweight, semi-automatic longarm that became a standard firearm for the U.S. military during World War II. It was widely used by U.S. and foreign military, police forces, and has also been a popular civilian firearm. The first M1 carbines were delivered in mid-1942, with priority given to troops in Europe. The M1 was highly praised for its small size, light weight and firepower, especially by troops who were unable to use a full size rifle as their primary weapon. The .30 Carbine cartridge was adequate in both muzzle energy and muzzle velocity. The .30 Carbine had a round-nose 110 gr bullet, in contrast to the spitzer bullet designs found in most full power rifle cartridges of the WWII era. A total of over 6.5 million M1 carbines and variants were manufactured, making it the most popular small arm for the American military during World War II.Created in 1942, this field manual reveals a great deal about the M1's design and capabilities. Intended as a manual for those charged with operation, it details many strategies for attaining outstanding marksmanship. Originally labeled restricted, this manual was declassified long ago and is here reprinted in book form. Care has been taken to preserve the integrity of the text.

The Fiscal Year 2019 National Defense Authorization Act established an alternative framework for setting promotion policies for military officers in competitive categories. The authors examine whether a shift to alternative promotion authority (APA) would be beneficial to the U.S. Air Force, how it would be implemented, and the use of related policy options-merit sequencing and lineal zone management-under either conventional or APA.
Ephemeral Field Journal: Climate + Love in Claude Monet's Garden
In the footsteps of Monet: Sarah Schorr's captivating experiment with color, water, and still lifeWhen Claude Monet settled in Giverny in 1883, he designed a flower garden full of impressive color compositions for observing light and time. The American artist Sarah Schorr understands Monet's garden as a creative, living laboratory. Her images in this book were inspired by the movement of water in Monet's garden - from the tiny teardrops of rain to the steady stream feeding the water lily pond. By collecting fallen, injured flowers in Monet's historic green spaces, Schorr transforms them into striking works of art by bringing them to life with paint, light, paper, water, and photography: experimental still lifes. Ephemeral Field Journal is an evocative artist's journal in which Schorr evokes the fragility of nature and illuminates the complex interplay of climate change, beauty, and loss. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Monet's death, the project will be exhibited internationally in 2025 and 2026.

Fieldnotes on a Study of Young People’s Perceptions of Crime and Justice
This book is an ethnographic examination of the young people who serve voluntarily as judges, advocates and other court personnel at the Red Hook Youth Court (RHYC) in Brooklyn, New York—a juvenile diversion program designed to prevent the formal processing of juvenile offenders—usually first-time offenders—for low-level offenses (such as fare evasion, truancy, vandalism) within the juvenile justice system.Focusing on the nine-to-ten-week long unpaid training program that the young people undergo prior to becoming RHYC members, this book offers a detailed description of young people’s experiences learning about crime, delinquency, justice, and law. Combining moments of self-reflection and autobiographical elements into largely "uncooked" fieldnotes, the book seeks to demonstrate the hegemonic operations of a court (the Red Hook Community Justice Center (RHCJC)—a multi-jurisdictional problem-solving court and community center where the RHYC is housed), the processes in which it secures belief in formal justice and the rule of law, ensures consent to be governed, and reproduces existing social structures. An accessible and compelling read, this book will appeal to students and scholars of criminology, law, sociology, and youth justice, as well as to those undertaking ethnographic research on young people, crime and justice.
