Sarah and Addie 12 Short West Indian Plays
In the heart of St. Croix, amidst the vibrant hum of daily life, two remarkable women became the embodiment of the island's spirit and resilience. Known to the community as Sarah and Addie, these market women were more than just vendors; they were the keepers of stories, the conduits of news, and the soul of the local marketplace. Their lively exchanges, filled with wit and wisdom, provided a window into the social and cultural pulse of the Virgin Islands. The original skits of Sarah and Addie, crafted by Anton Teytaud, capture the essence of St. Croix during the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. These decades, marked by significant change and growth, saw the island evolve while still holding on to its rich traditions. Teytaud's depictions bring to life the everyday conversations and interactions that defined the marketplace, making Sarah and Addie beloved characters who resonated deeply with audiences. Fast forward to the present day, and Dr. Valrica Bryson, Ph.D., has breathed new life into these iconic figures. Her contemporary skits showcase the modern Virgin Islands, bridging the past with the present. Through Bryson's writing, Sarah and Addie continue to engage in lively discussions, now reflecting the current events, challenges, and triumphs of today's society. Their stories remind us that while times change, the core of community, connection, and conversation remain steadfast. This collection of skits, spanning both the historical and modern eras, is a tribute to the enduring legacy of Sarah and Addie. It honors the market women of St. Croix, whose voices and stories have shaped the cultural tapestry of the Virgin Islands for generations.

'Sarah's Child' is all about love, decency and reality in a very contemporary context. When young Sarah Clarkson finds she is pregnant to her boyfriend, Stewart, she thinks her fairy tale life is just beginning. That fairy tale turns into a nightmare of domestic violence and crippling control and jealousy, driving Sarah over the edge. Sarah develops postpartum depression, joining millions of mothers around the world with this insidious and crippling condition. Even when recovered, her life is wrought with frustration and pain as the father of her child uses every dirty trick in the book to control her. Desperation drives Sarah to commit a crime that sends her even further down the path of despair and no matter what crimes her spouse may commit against her, it seems society is one sided and there is, for the once mentally ill, no justice.

Sarah Bernhardt was a French stage actor who became a global superstar in the late nineteenth century—the Lady Gaga of her day—and is still considered to be one of the greatest performers of all time. This fast-paced account of her life, filled with provocative detail, brilliantly follows the transformation of a girl of humble origins, born to a courtesan, into a fabulously talented, wealthy, and beloved icon. Not only was her acting trajectory remarkable, but her personal life was filled with jaw-dropping exploits, and she was extravagantly eccentric, living with a series of exotic animals and sleeping in a coffin. She grew to be deeply admired around the world, despite her unabashed and public promiscuity at a time when convention was king; she slept with each of her leading men and proudly raised a son without a husband. A fascinating and fast-paced deep dive into the world of the divine Sarah. Illustrated with more than sixty-five photos of Bernhardt on stage, in film, and in real life.

Sarah & Dipity is about an adventurous, unpredictable and super-energetic tomboy, and her inexperienced, insecure, and incredibly in-over-his-head guardian angel. Although Sarah cannot see Dipity, she knows that he is always there looking after her. She never misses an opportunity to make sure that Dipity is on his toes. This leaves Dipity feeling somewhat frazzled, often to the point where he doubts his abilities as a guardian angel. He never gives up though, no matter how discouraged he may feel. Just when he thinks he can't go on, Sarah reminds him just how important he is to her.

I met Sarah on her honeymoon. We swam together, we walked together, we talked together. I helped her see what I think she already knew. Hot coffee and perfect croissants helped. A woman who swims nude at dawn is a treasure, everyone knows that. I wasn't going to push her, but I made sure she knew I would be there when and if she needed my help. She did, and I was.

Sarah Waters: Gender and Sexual Politics uniquely brings together feminist and queer theoretical perspectives on gender and sexuality through close analysis of works by Sarah Waters. This timely study examines topics ranging from heterosexuality, homosexuality, masculinities, femininities, sex, pornography, and the cultural effects of othering and domination across her work. The book covers each of Waters’s published novels to date including Tipping the Velvet, Fingersmith and The Paying Guests and also considers her non-fiction and academic writing as well as the television adaptations of her texts. O'Callaghan situates Water's writing as an important textual space for the examination of contemporary gender and sexuality studies and locates her as an astute commentator and contributor to twenty-first century gender and sexual politics.

Sarah Kane was one of the landmark playwrights of 1990s Britain, her influence being felt across UK and European theatre. This is the first book to focus exclusively on Kane’s unique approach to mind and mental health. It offers an important re-evaluation of her oeuvre, revealing the relationship between theatre and mind which lies at the heart of her theatrical project. Drawing on performance theory, psychoanalysis and neuroscience, this book argues that Kane’s innovations generate a ‘dramaturgy of psychic life’, which re-shapes the encounter between stage and audience. It uses previously unseen archival material and contemporary productions to uncover the mechanics of this innovative theatre practice. Through a radically open-ended approach to dramaturgy, Kane’s works offer urgent insights into mental suffering that take us beyond traditional discourses of empathy and mental health and into a profound rethinking of theatre as a mode of thought. As such, her theatre can help us to understand debates about mental suffering today.

Historians as well as Bible scholars consider the biblical account about Chedorlaomer's campaign against Sodom as a pious fiction but a chronological reconstruction based on synchronisms shows that among dynasties from Sumerian lists the 3rd and last Elamite king of the Awan I dynasty was indeed Kudur-Lagamar (1990-1954). The route of Chedorlaomer shows that this king came to this region near Egypt in order to maintain control over this new land trade route. This ambitious project had to have worried Amenemhat I (1975-1946) and to block the progress of this powerful Mesopotamian king, he built the Walls of the Ruler and planned to create an Amorite rival confederation. In order to achieve his goal he proposed an alliance to Abram, who came from Shinar (Sumer), a region close to Elam, and began preparations by appointing Sarai as a bearer of offering to his personal service, then by marrying her to seal this alliance (Gn 12:19). The wedding was cancelled, but the statue remained.
