'My name is Tim, and that is what I want you to call me, except if another officer is present and especially if it is the CO, Lt Col Bennett, then I am Sir. At all other times I am Tim.'When Tim Fischer's elder son was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, it triggered Tim's resignation as federal National Party leader and deputy prime minister of Australia. An outpouring of emotion across the political divide greeted his decision, a rarity in a political environment where few leaders choose to give up power and prominence. In I am Tim, Peter Rees uncovers the influences that shaped a key figure of twentieth-century Australian political life, from a Jesuit boarding school to the rigours of officer training and the battlefields of Vietnam, time in state and federal politics, marriage to Judy Brewer and life at home. Fischer's interests and activities after politics were many and varied, spanning a diplomatic posting to the Holy See, new historical studies, and chairing the Global Seed Vault in Svalbard, Norway. Tim Fischer emerges as a man of energy and ambition but also of humanity, courage and love.

How many kids love reading science? May be a few. How many kids love reading stories? Almost all. We all know science is very interesting so if we make kids learn science through stories then that can become captivating reading material. This book attempts to interweave science topics with stories. If you are curious about what are the simple machines, how sound gets produced, what are newton's laws of motions, what is Archimedes' principle and many more, then this book is what you should be reading to get answers to all your questions. During my decade-long tenure as physics teacher, I've always tried to impart my knowledge in the most creative and interesting way possible. I am continuing my quest to mix science with creativity through this book. I've tried focusing on an array of physics topics in order to make the content as diverse as possible. All the topics are explained through conversations of two young siblings, Tim & Kim. Very interesting real-life examples are depicted to prove or describe the science behind them. Not to forget, there are plenty of beautiful illustrations to help readers actually connect with the topics and experiments. The narration of the book is simple yet in effective manner to help young readers understand the science fundamentals efficiently. This book is an honest and humble endeavour to make young readers fall in love with the science and its "magic"

Hiro Plays Tiny Tim is book #4 in the Anna's Friends series of 8 illustrated books for the 3rd grade level, or age 8-10. All age levels, actually. Hiro; s character illustrates the motivational gift of Exhortation. In book #4 we will follow Hiro through his journey of practicing for his role as Tiny Tim in the classic play, "A Christmas Carol" and how he overcomes the adversity of such an important role with his wit and humor. This fun excerpt shows us one of the fun traits of this child - teasing his friends: "Hiro had a rubber spider in his pocket just waiting for the right time and the right person to tease with it. He got down off the table and sat by Sarah, then quietly and slowly took the rubbery toy critter out of his pocket to be ready for the right moment. "Okay, all in favor raise your hand," Anna told the group. Everyone raised their hand except Jesse. "Perfect," Hiro said under his breath. While everyone's hands were raised, he slid the spider in Sarah's notebook that was laying on the table. "Sarah will you write a few lines about the reading contest and give it to me before you go home so I can put it in the newsletter?"Anna asked. Sarah was very thrifty. She opened her notebook to take out a piece of paper. She let out a scream that everyone in the park heard. Sarah's notebook went flying through the air. Papers floated up and down and everywhere just like bird feathers, and the spider too. The rubber critter came down and landed on Cayden's hair but no one saw it just then. "Where did it go, where is it?" Sarah shouted and moved around the table like a chicken with its head cut off. Some reviews: Tammy: "Kendyl and I have loved it We are reading it together, laughing and learning. The book prompted Kendyl to ask me what her gift was. I said let's keep reading and find out. She has a servant's heart. It also prompted Kendyl to think about her friends and classmates and their gifts. What's great is that this age group can relate so well to the author's purpose. It comes shining through clearly. I didn't tell Kendyl the theme of the book...she figured it out on her own which is important for this audience age. Yvonne is an excellent author " Paola: "I really enjoyed reading this book with my children. It got my children and I thinking about our own God given gifts and how we want to explore them further. We were so into the story that we could feel the emotion coming from the book. We felt Anna's excitement as well as her sorrow at times. It is a great book which I will recommend to anyone You even made my eyes water a few times. Xavier: My 9-year-old son laughed at the silly things Hiro would do to the girls because I think he relates to the character. I like how Mr. Henderson wants his students to share their God given gifts with the world. Aysel: My 10-year-old daughter was into the book and loved how God was included and prayer was mentioned. She really enjoyed reading Anna's Friends. She liked how it was easy to understand and follow. Angela: "I opened the manuscript and began reading a few pages. I was IMMEDIATELY "sucked" into the story and I can't wait to finish what I need to do right now so I may get back to the book. Enough said? I am...I, I don't have the words. This is a God thing." All the books in the Anna's Friend's Illustrated children's Book Series make great stand-alone gifts or you can buy the entire series as a bundle. Great choick for home schooling too. Get yours today

S. E. Hinton

University of Oklahoma Press

Short Stories from the bestselling author of The Outsiders, plus exclusive interviews A teenager when she first gained fame, now a seasoned writer, S. E. Hinton takes her trademark themes to a new level in Some of Tim's Stories - fourteen original stories depicting adults trapped in lives of missed connections and opportunities. The stories in this collection merge into a larger narrative about two cousins, Terry and Mike, whose lives and families are intertwined but whose paths lead to very different futures: one in prison, the other enduring a guilt-ridden existence working in a bar.The tales are made especially distinctive in the telling. The ""author"" of the stories is a bartender named Tim - the ""Mike"" of his own narrative - whose idiosyncrasies are perfectly captured in Hinton's intriguing use of metafiction. The book also features exclusive interviews with Hinton conducted by Teresa Miller, host of public television's Writing Out Loud. Hinton allows readers into her world as she never has before - speaking openly about her life and career. Complementing the book are line drawings that illustrate the stories and photographs that document the author's life.In one interview, Hinton calls Some of Tim's Stories ""the best writing I've ever done."" These stories capture the feel of the earlier books that won her fame while demonstrating an adult edginess and a more disciplined talent. Some of Tim's Stories is sure to captivate Hinton's long-time fans as it shows new readers that her soul-searching fiction extends masterfully to adult themes as well.
