India's Aircraft Industry, despite having been formed as early as in December 1940 has been unable to meet the equipment needs of the aviation users, whether military or civil, in the country. As a consequence India imports all its aircraft needs from abroad. This situation needs to change. This book starts from an examination of the importance of aviation to the country both for military as well as or civil purposes. From here it goes on to trace the development of aviation in India. Then the book examines the Indian Aircraft Industry from studying the aircraft projects carried out by India. From these aircraft projects lessons and learning have been culled for use later in the book. Thereafter there are case studies carried out of the two leading airpower capability countries, the USA and erstwhile Soviet Union / Russia. There are also case studies of Brazil and China as these two countries were behind India in aviation in the 1950s but are globally competitive today, unlike India. The lessons and learning from the case studies are compiled and then used finally to develop possible models that could help make India's aircraft industry globally competitive.

The Kargil conflict was fought 20 years ago. However, it continues to remain relevant for strategic analysts, military historians, academics, armed forces personnel and diplomats. This book, delves into the structures, planning processes and procedures adopted while pursuing diplomacy, higher direction of war and strategic communications, on both sides of the Line of Control during the Kargil conflict. In doing so, existing arguments are challenged and alternative conclusions drawn. This includes the debate around the decision not to cross the LoC during operations, the decision making process involved with the employment of air power and limitations of existing strategic communication structures of the armed forces, as observed during the conflict. The second part of the book employs Kargil and the succeeding 20 years, as the basis for analysing the changing character of war. This includes a study of its implications on the notion of victory and shifts needed while pursuing diplomacy, higher direction of war and strategic communications. It also introduces the concept of finite and infinite game theory to conflicts in the sub-continental context, in an attempt to contextualise it through a fresh perspective.

This book is an attempt to tell the story of India's fight against COVID-19 and the impact it had in reshaping of India's foreign policy. Indian foreign policy bore an extraordinary brunt of deliverance, even as it imposed total lockdown in a country of 1.3 billion people. This book recounts the steps taken by the Indian government and its various departments and agencies during COVID-19, the coordination. Between them and its overall impact on the nation's outlook. As the nature of diplomacy shifted from physical to virtual and trade became difficult with countries closing the border, India had to invoke its Atmanirbhar spirit to sustain the momentum of nation's collective conscience. India's diplomacy during the peak of the pandemic faced multiple challenges not just induced by the virus but also enhanced threats at the border by China. Perhaps, India's relations with great, middle and small powers have stood revised in many ways in the post-pandemic world. This book remains an unfinished project as neither has COVID-19 threat completely ended, nor have other virus-induced changes been fully restored to resume the pre-pandemic world of global relations, mobility and diplomacy.
