Adam Bittleston (1911-89) was an ordained priest of The Christian Community, a movement for religious renewal founded in 1922 with the help of the philosopher and founder of anthroposophy, Rudolf Steiner. This book is the first biography of a fascinating and influential individual, presented alongside a selection of his writings, including all his articles on Shakespeare. From his student days in Oxford Bittleston was a close friend of William Golding, author of Lord of the Flies, and this book draws on Golding?s unpublished journal. Bittleston was also very gifted with the written word, as well as being a much sought after spiritual counsellor. His wife, Gisela, once wrote that his 'main interest was to help people sort out their destiny.' His knowledge of Shakespeare was equal to that of any academic or writer of his time and most of his books and articles draw deeply on Shakespeare's work.Essays in other sections of the book were selected to reflect Bittleston's wide reading and deep knowledge of language, history, the ?spirit? of the English people, and religion and the gospels. He was also recognized as one of the foremost theologians of the Christian Community in Britain. He was able to translate spiritual ideas into modern life and in keeping with modern times, and was the author of several books, including Meditative Prayers for Today (1953), The Spirit of the Circling Stars (1975), Our Spiritual Companions (1983), The Seven Planets (1985), Loneliness (1987) and Counselling and Spiritual Development (1988).

On a warm summer's evening, while riding his bicycle with his girlfriend down a gentle slope something inexplicable happened. Suddenly, Adam flew over his handle bars, bounced on the street, and crushed the back of his head. TBI-traumatic brain injury. In that moment, Adam's life and the life of his family changed forever. Like tens of thousands of other young people who probably rode their bikes that day, Adam was not wearing a helmet. "Adam's Fall" tells a very personal story of a young man's struggle to survive first while in prolonged coma and then to heal and to recover himself. It is a story of the heroic efforts of doctors, nurses and therapists who saved his life and of those who have since supported his healing. But mostly, it is a story of a family facing every parent's worst nightmare, a story of faith and of hope that continues to unfold in often surprising ways.

E G West brings to life Adam Smith's first years in the bustling Scottish seaport of Kirkcaldy (and recounts Smith's brief kidnapping, as a baby, by gypsies). We follow young Smith as a student, watch his thought develop as Professor of Moral Philosophy at Glasgow, and enjoy with him the hospitality of David Hume, the Parisian literary salons, Johnson, Burke, Gibbon, and other giants of the era. West gives us a masterful summary of 'The Wealth of Nations'. Even more significant, West restores to eminence an earlier work of Smith's, 'The Theory of Moral Sentiments'. "If The Wealth of Nations had never been written," he asserts, "this previous work would have earned for him a prominent place in intellectual history." West takes particular delight in using 'The Theory of Moral Sentiments' to rebut Marx's assumptions about laissez-faire capitalism.

In hindsight, perhaps Adam Grossman should not have retired--at least not so soon. After all, he was a respected heart surgeon and certainly not of diminished skills. Adam, however, had let his ego get the best of him and when he is passed over for a department chairmanship, decides to take his generous pension and move on. Now a year later, he’s adrift, although not always unpleasantly. For his wife Eva it’s a different story. He is disrupting her life to the point that she has jokingly suggested an affair to fill his days. Even their two dogs seem a little agitated with Adam’s current schedule. Adam has come to the opinion that there’s no point to anything anymore. But there is one thing that keeps him engaged—music. Most particularly, he has always been enthralled by the brilliant, yet underappreciated rhythm and blues stylings of Oscar Brown, Jr. They met over 35 years before and have been fast friends for most of that time. Adam has hit upon an idea. He will tell the tale of Oscar’s life and career and thus revive the public’s enthusiasm for the musician-songwriter. To Adam’s surprise, Brown warms to the idea. There is one problem. Although Adam has the support of his friend and intimate knowledge of his music, he never really considered the effort required to actually put the story to paper. Then, there is a wonderful coincidence. Attending an Oscar Brown Jr. show at the last minute, Adam is approached by a young woman. She’s an accomplished writer, and even has clippings from articles she’s done about other music entertainers. Adam has a proposal. Would she be interested in collaborating on the book? Adam and Charlene strike an agreement. He will supply her with rare recordings and other background material. In time, the book will be completed . Deal in place; Adam and Charlene begin to meet daily. For Adam, this arrangement is wholly satisfying. But after a while, Oscar and Eva begin to wonder why no pages have been produced. Even Adam questions how this can continue. His embarrassment grows. Just who is this woman? Adam is now as determined to maintain his relationship with Charlene—despite the warning signs—as he once was to tell Oscar’s story. He thinks he can do both, but who is he fooling? Adam struggles to maintain his equilibrium, but with every new alibi he creates, his illusions fade a little. It becomes clear to Adam that, sooner or later, he is headed for a fall .

A critical investigation of Adam Pendleton’s deep engagement with abstraction. Adam Pendleton’s exploration of abstraction—through painting, drawing, screen printing, sculpture, language, book arts, and film—over the past five years constitutes the core of this study and the exhibition that spawned it. The book features essays by exhibition curator Meredith Malone and senior scholars Hal Foster and Joshua Chambers-Letson along with a conversation between Pendleton and the critic and theorist Isabelle Graw. These texts illuminate the artist’s fundamental understanding of abstraction as a conscious articulation of unimagined alternatives and a mechanism of both resistance and active engagement. Painting is a central focus of Pendleton’s work, and Isabelle Graw, in her interview with the artist, elucidates painting as a “primary form” for Pendleton, noting how the medium conceptually and theoretically informs how he moves through and operates in other forms as well as how his works address viewers as “cognizant participants.” Hal Foster takes up Pendleton’s engagement with bookmaking as another form of activation, arguing that the artist’s creative compilations of texts and images activate readers and viewers, existing as resources to help us not only survive but flourish. Joshua Chambers-Letson’s close reading of Pendleton’s experimental film What Is Your Name? Kyle Abraham, A Portrait stimulates consideration of how artistic practice can be a means to negotiate with, dance with, and live with grief at the intersection of Black and queer love and loss. Meredith Malone contextualizes Pendleton’s recent work, examining his multifaceted approach to abstraction as a “philosophical disposition” as well as a device to realize a more expansive, chaotic, and fluid space for both artist and viewer. With more than 1,400 high-quality reproductions and full transcripts of two of the artist’s recent films juxtaposed with extensive stills from each, To Divide By is Adam Pendleton’s most ambitious publication to date. It is published on the occasion of an exhibition of the same name at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis in fall 2023.

This volume totaling 192 pages covering every aspect of assembly, detailing and conversion techniques which keeps Adam at the forefront of scale armor modeling with Worldwide acclaim. This volume also includes a very special Gallery of Adams work.REVIEWS an excellent publication for both the experienced modeler and the beginner, because of the detailed and clear text explaining what is done, and how it is done. In my opinion this book is just the tool needed to allow the novice armor builder to learn a set of skills and techniques that, within 3 or 4 months will provide the novice with a world of experience. The experienced modeler, in a shorter time frame will see the quality of their work improve in a significant way.ipms ..".a superb modeling construction techniques book. The photography is stunning and leaves nothing to speculation. If I was just starting out in the hobby, I'd be well served with this volume beside me on the bench. Considering I've been modeling for over forty years now, I've still learned a lot from it so I feel it's just as well suited for an 'old hand' too. I think I must have bought just about every modeling technique book to hit the market over the years. Of these, Shep Paine's books will always have a special place on my bookshelf, as will Tony Greenland's Modeling Masterclass. This book builds on them, bringing the evolution of plastic model construction and detailing up to date. Needless to say, I'll be making space on my bench for this volume too."AMPS- Armor Modeling Preservation Society"

Adam in the Morning is about men and women who fought in the Stonewall riots in June and early July, 1969. They ask each other, "What's happening here?" They talk politics, they throw bricks and molotov cocktails at the cops, they get bloodied, and they read The Wretched of the Earth by Franz Fanon. They have sex. They lose their fear and understand their world has profoundly changed. They discuss big issues: What can we do to change our world? Am I strong enough? Are there enough of us? They are ready for the Revolution. Bo, the carpenter, thinks of starting a home for the street kids but also something even more dramatic, and Andrew, his partner, is starting a newspaper. Joseph, the actor, has fallen in love but can fight better than any of the rest of them. One of them says after the last night's riot, "It's as if we've got more space in the city." They are committed to their cause, to each other, to all of people on the street, and their eyes look to the future.
